Fantastic Update.
Feeling bad for Arnav. I wonder what Akash is up to. Can't be anything good.
Just hope that Arnav and Khushi reunite again. 😃

It is getting complicated day by day and scary too. Arnav is again shattered...I hope Arnav listen to Khushi, which seems to be impossible. Akash along with his father planning something bad for Khushi and I am scared of it.

Khushi is again being dumb and Akash will trap her in something far more sinister then what she did.

But then the way she behaved, its Karma biting her back. Seriously with the dilly-dallying she did in sharing the truth with Arnav, i doubt if she has even an iota of feelings for him, for she doesnt even worry that Akash will kick him out of his own house and he will be rendered homeless on the streets.

Chapter 22: Throwing the Dice

Anjali reached Raizada Mansion with Shyam Jha within two hours.

"Slow down, Anjali" Shyam exclaimed in a concerned voice as she hurried inside.

"Arey! Anjali Bitiya! You arrived so early? The puja' is not until the evening" Devyani Raizada exclaimed, who was looking over the decorations going on in the house.

Anjali looked at the marigold garlands that were hung on a large black & white portrait of Surendra Singh Raizada and she burst into tears.

"It's all over, Nani. We don't need to do this puja' anymore" She said, hunching over the nearest couch and Devyani Raizada looked at Shyam with troubled eyes.

"What's going on, Damaad ji?"

~~~
Akash looked at the watch on his wrist when he finally saw Khushi enter in through the revolving doors. Sharp at 5:30!
He then looked around the office and his smile grew lupine. All the employees had left, today being a half day at work.
Akash tried to fight the nausea that rose in him as he thought about the puja' that was to be held at Raizada Mansion in a few hours.
These people had really gone out of their way to fool him. Every year they held a puja' for keeping the pretense going that Surendra Singh Raizada was indeed a good man and a good father. Why? Just so he wouldn't doubt anything and go on believing in the happy story that was told to him?
Deceitful creatures!
Every one of them was deceitful, including Khushi Kumari Gupta!
Akash watched as she looked around the office, wondering where everyone was. He shut the blinds when she looked up towards where he was, in Arnav's office.
Seeing the lights on, Khushi started walking towards the office.
Akash smiled as he dialed his father's number.
~~~

Girish Sharma waited for another half an hour just to be sure that Arnav was gone. He had no idea how did Arnav find out about him. It wasn't supposed to happen until everything was in motion. Now he will have to improvise the plan and be swift. But first he'll have to handle Akash.

The new plan wouldn't sit right with Akash.

When Girish had first arrived in the city he had a different plan. One that Akash didn't want to follow. But, now the time was running out. Girish Sharma decided that he wouldn't tell Akash about Arnav's little visit to the apartment. At least not until Akash's head had cooled down from the little stint Khushi Kumari Gupta had pulled over them.

He was still contemplating his next action when his cell phone buzzed. It was Akash calling.

"Where are you? Didn't I tell you to that we will deal with this with a cool head?" Girish Sharma growled into the phone.

"There's no need to do that. I have things under control. Just come to the AR office. Khushi is here. Together, we are going to make this right"

"Have you lost your mind, boy? What are you doing there? Arnav.."

"No one is here. The office is closed. Tell the guard you have come to meet me. He'll let you in. And then we shall have our retribution. I am tired of waiting" Akash said and disconnected the call.

Girish Sharma simply stared at the phone with a frown.

What the hell was Akash doing?

But this could take a good turn for him, thought Girish Sharma.

"Well done, son. You just served me everything I need" The man gave a nefarious smile.

~~~
Payal reached home feeling tired. All the way to her house, Aman's words played in her head.
"I think you have some scars too. And I'd like to hear whenever you're ready to talk. Talking helps" Payal didn't know what it was that made Aman tell her about his life, but she felt closer to him now. It was like now she could understand from where he gets his childishness yet his sincerity.
It was a strange feeling, to be trusted with someone's innermost secrets. Or maybe he told her because she was a complete stranger to him. It is easier to talk to a person you don't have to see every day and watch them judge you, pity you.
But the thought that Aman might think of her only as a stranger did not give Payal any happiness. She felt like she knew him better now, like he was a kindred soul. That is why she didn't feel guilty when she took his contact number from the school register!
Opening the messaging app, she stared at the screen wondering if she should text him. But then she looked at her baby bump and kept the phone down. There was someone else who needed her more. Her baby!
Maybe this connection that she felt today with Aman would go away. It was not like she was going to see him again until the next parent-teacher meeting. There was plenty of time for her to figure this out and decide if she was ready to share her own secret with him.
~~~

Arnav decided he couldn't go home. Not today. Not now. He could picture the marigold decorations hanging in every corner of the hall. It was a stupid faade of having a puja' for Surendra Singh Raizada. It had been Anjali's idea.

She didn't want Akash to question why they didn't have a puja' for their beloved father when a puja' was held every year for Pushpa Raizada. It was just another lie into the ocean of lies they had built around their family to hide the ugliness from Akash.

But what was the point of it all?

Now Akash knew! And he hated them.

And Khushi...! Arnav couldn't even think of her name without flinching with pain. She had been an accomplice of Girish Sharma. A pawn into this game? Or a queen?

He drove aimlessly on the roads. There was no place he wanted to be. No one he wanted to talk to. He had already called off his private investigator. He didn't want to know anything more. Even though the investigator had said that he had dug some fresh information on Akash, Arnav had told him that his services were not required.

He tried thinking of the last time he had had a proper conversation with Akash.

It was about a year ago. Akash had gotten drunk at a bar and Arnav had been called because his cell phone had him listed as Bhai'. Arnav had brought him home and knowing well that Akash wouldn't remember much in the morning, he had told him that no matter what happens he will help him get out of his bad habits because that's what brothers do. But, Arnav had failed. Months after months, Akash had only drifted away. Now he knew why. It was Girish Sharma poisoning his ears. Arnav knew for sure that Girish would have told Akash a twisted story, one where he was the victim.

Now, Arnav didn't know how to make everything right. He wondered if Khushi too knew about his family's dark secret. Maybe that is why she had agreed to work with them. Or maybe she loved Akash. Maybe the two of them had planned their revenge against him.

Arnav thought he would go crazy. He could see his family falling apart. All because of Surendra Singh Raizada and Girish Sharma. Together, these two men had already ruined his life once. How could he let them do it again?

"I'll talk to Akash. I have to tell him everything" Arnav decided.

About Khushi..he didn't want to think about her. Even after her betrayal, he could feel the love bubbling under the anger. He was trying his best to suppress it but it seemed too strong. How will he deal with her? Would he be able to stand by and watch her walking away from his life? He didn't think he could. Even through all the hurt and the anger he wanted to see her one more time, to talk to her.

When did his life become so messed? He wondered.

Deciding to begin with Akash, Arnav drove home.

~~~
Khushi stepped into Arnav's office with a nervous heartbeat. All the way to AR, she had been thinking about the things she wanted to say to him but now she couldn't find any words. Maybe it was best if he spoke first because she was sure she wouldn't be able to get one sentence out without crying. She had missed him so much. She didn't know if he missed her too.
"Arnav?" She said, her voice coming out shaky as she entered through the door.
But with the first step in, she knew something was wrong.
The door behind her locked and she was pushed forward towards the table.
"Disappointed, huh, Khushi?" It was Akash's voice that made a chill run down her spine.
"Now you know how I felt when you handed me those documents with fake signatures of Bhai. I was disappointed too. Very disappointed!" Akash continued, and Khushi heard him coming closer.
She quickly turned to face him and found him staring hard at her, his eyes shooting fireballs.
"There is no way you thought that I wouldn't find out the signatures are fake. So, tell me, what exactly were you thinking, Khushi Kumari Gupta?" Akash asked again, this time loudly and harshly.
Khushi looked at the door. It was locked.
"You are not going anywhere" Akash hissed again, blocking her view of the door.
Khushi realized that Akash wasn't wrong. There was no way she could get out of here without Akash letting her. So, she decided to make the best of the situation.
"What made you think I would get you those papers? You ruined my Jeeji's life. You are a spiteful bas***d who wants to harm his own brother. Did you think I would keep playing into your hands? Did you think I would actually let you hurt the man I love?" Khushi demanded, her own eyes now burning with the fire of rage.
Akash laughed in derision.
"The man you love? Don't you mean the man you lied and played with? And do you think he loves you? He hates you. I made sure of that" Akash replied smugly.
"Now you will give me what I want and you can leave here like nothing happened or you can refuse and I will be very nasty" Akash threatened Khushi who shook her head in response.
"I don't know what you're talking about. I gave you the original papers. Maybe your so called father is double crossing you" Khushi retorted in a loud voice.
She watched in revulsion as Akash laughed again.
"Quite a good act you have got going here, Khushi. Trying to turn me against my own father? But what you don't know is that I came early in the office. I had lots of time on hand and I used it to dig through the security feed of your cubicle. I watched you placing the documents I had given you between the files you made Arnav sign. Don't assume you're the only smart person in the room" Akash drawled and Khushi's face lost entire colour for a second.
She realized there was no way she could convince Akash that she did not have the original papers. If he has really seen her placing those documents in the file, he would never believe her. So, Khushi loosed a breath and let her shoulders droop.
"I had to give you the fake copy because there was no guarantee you'd stick to your word and return those videos and photos to me" She replied, placing her shoulder bag on Arnav's work table and directing a hateful gaze at Akash.
"But now you know that I have kept my end of the bargain. I never wanted to harm Payal or hurt her but I didn't have any other option. I knew you could entrap Bhai and get his signatures for me. So, I did what I had to. But you? You are no better than me! You took his signatures and you gave me the fake copies. You deceived both of us. Why? So that you could have a backup in case I don't deliver my part of the deal? What does that make you, huh? A two-timer! You're not a saint, Khushi. You're selfish too" Akash sneered at her.
Khushi didn't argue with him. Not when he was indeed correct. She was selfish. She had deceived Arnav's feelings.
She was still thinking about all the horrible things she had done to Arnav when the door of the cabin was tapped.
Khushi's head whipped towards the door and she opened her mouth to shout for help but seeing Akash's smile she realized whoever it was on the other side of the door wasn't here to help her.
"Now let's get this started" Akash said as he moved to the door and unlocked it.
Girish Sharma entered in and directed a smirk at Khushi.
"I didn't know you too could play the game, dear" He said and Khushi felt sickened just by his mere presence in the room.
Akash made sure to lock to the door after Girish and then he turned to Khushi.
"Why don't you take a seat? This is going to be long evening for you" He flashed his teeth before turning back to Girish Sharma.
"I know you think I shouldn't have hurried but I do not want to wait another day. I want those papers, and then I want to make the Raizadas realize what it feels to be betrayed, to be lied to, and to be taken everything from. I'll go to her house" Akash pointed at Khushi.
"And then you'll call me and put her on the phone. She'll tell Payal to give me those documents or someone in her family will get very hurt. I still have to decide who it will be. Her Babuji? Her Buaji? Or her mother? It's really confusing. Anyway, I'll decide that on my way to your house" Akash continued as he turned towards Khushi whose face had whitened.
"Trust me, Khushi. I'll hate doing it as much as you hate hearing about it. But you know, everything is fair in love and..well..revenge" Akash said while Khushi could feel her breaths getting quicker.
Even though she wanted to stay calm, her palms were getting sweaty.
"You don't have to do this, Akash. Whatever it is that you think Arnav has done against you, he hasn't. He is a good person. I am sure you have misunderstood him. This man..has he turned you against him?" Khushi responded.
"Misunderstood? You don't even know what this family has done to mine! But you will know soon. And then you will realize that what I am doing is justice"
"Keep an eye on her" Akash then said to Girish Sharma.
"I'll take good care of her. You go" Girish Sharma replied, his eyes fixed on Khushi.
Akash nodded and opening the door, left.
As the door closed after him, Khushi felt actually scared for the first time. She was trapped with a man she barely knew and there was something off about him which was giving her a bad feeling.
~~~

By the time Arnav made it home, evening had fallen. He could see the house lit with fairy lights. When he stepped inside, he was greeted with absolute silence. It meant that Anjali had already arrived and informed Nani. But it also meant that Akash was most probably not at home.

"Chote!" It was Naniji's voice that cut through the silence of the house and Arnav turned to find her coming down the stairs.

"Where is Di, Nani?" He asked.

"Resting in her room. Damaad Ji is with her. She reached here very distressed. We tried calling Akash but he is not receiving his phone" She answered, looking exhausted herself.

"We should have listened to you when you wanted to tell Akash. Now only god knows, what that swine has filled in our son's mind" She said, sitting on the couch but Arnav didn't respond.

He had to talk to Akash.

Pulling out the cell phone, he dialed his number.

Akash didn't receive. Arnav realized that the longer it was going to take for him to reach Akash, the worse it was going to be. He had no idea what was running through Akash's head.

So, Arnav once again called his Private Investigator.

~~~
"Hello? Sir?" the man on the other end of the phone said, but Arnav could hear nothing over the noise in his head. The latest revealation the man had made on the phone had taken the wind out of Arnav's sails.
"Are you sure?" Arnav asked after a second, in a voice that sounded different to his own ears.
"101 percent, sir. My sources confirmed that the girl Payal in the list I provided you last time, is indeed Payal Gupta, daughter of Shashi Gupta and Garima Gupta" The man confirmed once again.
Payal Gupta. Khushi's sister.
Akash had dated Khushi's sister. Arnav couldn't process the information no matter how much he tried. If this was true, Khushi would never associate herself with Akash. Knowing how Akash treated his ex girlfriends, Arnav knew Khushi would loathe Akash. So, Why? Why was she working with him and Girish?
As Arnav stood with his phone still against his ears, his heart stumbled several beats.
What if everything Akash had told him about Khushi and himself was WRONG?
What if Khushi was never dating Akash?
But, she had agreed. She had accepted it in front of him that she was involved with Akash, hadn't she? Arnav thought hard. But now he couldn't remember Khushi actually accepting that she had a relationship with Akash.
Arnav felt like he was breathing underwater. Had he assumed too much?
"I have to tell you about Akash" she had said.
What if it was something else? What if she had wanted to tell him something else? About Payal maybe?
Arnav ran a desperate hand through his hair.
If Khushi was working with Akash and Akash was working with Girish, it meant...
It meant that Khushi was in trouble. Girish was a debauched man who only cared about money and himself.
So, for whatever unfathomable Khushi was working with Girish Sharma, she was going to be in trouble. He had to talk to her and figure out everything before something wrong happens. And he has to talk to Akash.
Deciding there was only one way left to find out about Akash's location, Arnav dialed Aman's number.
"Hey ASR! What's up? Which file do you need now?" Aman asked and Arnav could hear noises in the background, kids playing.
"Are you out with Aakriti?" Arnav asked quickly.
"Yeah. She was upset with me so I brought her to the park. Why?" Aman asked.
"I need you to find out where Akash is, Aman. It's urgent" Arnav said, earnestly.
"Oh okay! Is it about another of his affairs? I'll call you back in half an hour" Aman replied and Arnav immediately disconnected the call.
He felt as if his head was going to blow up. What if Khushi was innocent in all of this? What if she was the victim?
Right now, Arnav knew he couldn't trust Akash's word. Realizing that he wouldn't be able to wait even a second, let alone half an hour, Arnav dashed out of his room.
He had to see Khushi first.
Reaching to his SUV and getting in, his dialed Khushi's number with shaky fingers and waited for the call to connect as he ignited the engine.
With every second that the call was connecting, Arnav could feel his heartbeats getting quicker. He had to hear Khushi's voice. It had been a week since he had last seen her or heard from her.
The bell on the other side of the phone rang for barely five seconds before it was disconnected, leaving Arnav staring at the screen of his phone with alarm.
Why would she reject his phone call?
Arnav tried not to think too much as he drove speedily towards the Gupta house.
