Chapter 23

Asad looked at that hand on him again and jerked it away. His eyes again wandered on the retreating figure of Zoya. He had no time now to talk with that man. He wanted to convience Zoya first. So he ran after her.

"Asad, listen to me" said Rashid with e stern tone.But Asad did not listen. Asad ran for his life, his love.

"Zoya, where are you going?" Asad huffed.

"That's none of your business Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan. I am not bound to answer your all questions" Zoya barked at him and increased her pace.

Asad blocked her way "I know you are not but you are angry on me and I think I know the reason, that Habib I told him not to say you anything about it" Asad barked putting all the blame on Habib. He thought Zoya was not happy to be here.

"Don't dare to accuse him Mr. Khan and you don't even understand why I am angry? then better we don't talk about it." Zoya lashed at him pointing her accused finger to his chest.

"Okay, I am sorry but please tell me then why you are angry?" Asad asked in his soft tone.

"Because of you Mr. Khan and today you proved that you can't trust me as much as I trust you" Zoya said in a lower tone.

Asad was taken aback with her words. What is that come from? "Yes, I have trust issues but I trust you more than myself, Zoya" He thought but could not tell her. He hung his head and pleading silently to continue her bashing.

Zoya was more enraged seeing this. She became frantic with anger.

"You lied to me, us. Why did not you tell us about this case? You knew my one statement can change the strategy of this case but you did not tell me once? What was I supposed to say, the truth and how come that will put me in this infamy? You are compromising your modesty to portect me? Sorry, I can't get the fact and I don't need that fame with sacrificing yours." Zoya could not help enough to make her tone lower.

"Okay..Okay...I made a mistake. I am sorry for that. But please don't cry. I am not capable of handling a raining machine" Asad teased her.

"You know what you are disgusting. You did not even know of what you can do?" Zoya chose to avoid Asad's piercing gaze and looked away.

Asad stared at her absorbing her use of words. He was just amazed that how within a minute her anger melted. How can she do it?

"Now, let's go" Asad asked her finally.

"Where?" Zoya asked him with a mock irritation.

"I am famished. It is almost after noon. We did not have our lunch. Don't you have to take any food Miss Bhookkar?"

"What did you say?" Zoya was angry but also she had to admit that she was hungry. "Okay, let's go."

Asad led her to the nearest pizza hut and Zoya narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "What are you up to, Mr.?"

"Nothing, I think I should compensate for what I did" He sighed. Zoya hit his arm playfully.

"You are so mean and by the way after lunch I need a rapid fire session with you no not rapid fire, I think I should name it Truth and only truth" Zoya said.

"And why all these?" Asad asked.

"It is your punishment for what you have done today." Zoya giggled.

"You are impossible" Asad said with a stern tone.

"I don't know, I want answers that too true answeres" Zoya answered him back.

"Well it is only 4 pm and the flight is at 9.00 pm. You will not go to my hotel room as well then we need to pass this time somewhere. Then let's go for it" Asad spilled the beans when they finished their meal.

Zoya got embarrassed. "Umm okay let's go"

They went to the beach and sat on the rocks. It was the time for sunset. They enjoyed sunset scene, sitting silently.

After a long period of silence when it was dark Zoya asked to him "Mr. Khan, can I ask something to you? It is bugging me from sometimes."

"Yes, ask." Asad said.

"Don't take me wrong. Why you agreed to marry me? I mean we did not know each other. We did not even meet once before the marriage. You also did not watch my photos" Zoya asked her first question.

"It's for Ammi. She liked you very much and I never said no to her" Asad answered without thinking.

"Oh!! I think I can sense it. But why you are so angry at that night?" Zoya put her next question tactfully.

"Ummm...woh...actually...woh" Asad stuttered. He thought about saying the truth to her.

"Zoya..I...I was frustrted... thought I loved someone but can never tell her...I mean not love...liked" Asad confirmed it to Zoya.

Zoya thanked Allah that it was dark there. Otherwise, Asad could clearly see her silent tears. She very carefully wiped her tears and said nonchalantly

"I think I knew it too"

"What? How?" Asad asked in a confused tone.

"Ummm...that night when you got stabbed, you were talking about her" Zoya whispered to him. A fresh set of tears escaped from her eyes.

"Ummm...a ..I think I can clear something to you here. I mean that's true there was a girl I liked but I never saw her clearly. I used to go to drive Ammi to her NGO and I saw her there sometimes. She always used a veil and I never saw her face properly. But her laugh, Mashaallah! She was chirpy, jolly girl. Her laugh, I started to hear it in my dreams. She was also there but I can never recognize her as I never saw her face. This was my first feeling for a girl whom I did not know and I thought this is called love. But now I know it is not.. I... Ammi..." Asad was going to tell her something but disturbed by dilshad's call.

It was Zoya's cell. Dilshad was worried about her as she did not go home last night and also not reach home yet today. Zoya said she will be late but must be there at home today.

Zoya was sad...she knew all these things before but that was not helping her to act strong. She was shattered. In all this she missed out what Asad wanted to say at last. She sighed and asked her next question.

"You said that day you knew who framed you then why you are not taking steps against him? It is a sin to remain silent when you knew that criminal. Maybe he could not harm you this time but next time he will attack again"

"I...I was assuming..I did not know him." Asad lied to her. He was not ready to share his truth yet.

You are assuming. That means you know him. Who is he? Is he did it to you before?" Zoya was in a fix.

"Ummm...I ...I can't tell his name. It is not right to tell before I confirm it but yes this thing is happened once with me before." Asad cleared to her. He did not want to keep her in any doubt about him.

"What? When? Ammi never told me about it." Zoya was too much curious.

"Because she did not know it, this is the one event I never shared with Ammi or anyone else but I want to share it with you" Asad said in a determined tone.

Zoya kept her hand on his shoulder to assure him. She forgot all her pain when she heard the story from Asad.

"I was in Germany, gone for my higher studies there. I met a girl Tanveer there, she was also from India and we became very good friends in a very short time. We did everything together, shared everything. We were best friends. Tanveer was already engaged a guy named "Farhaan" in India. They liked each other for a long time. They had decided to get married after completing her studies. Everything was going so well. Farhaan also called me somes to know about her studies. He knew about our friendship.

We had to do many surveys during studies. It was related to our study. We went many tours but in one tour we were detached from our group. We had to stay in a hotel for one night and had to share in a single room. Trust me nothing was happened between us. I slept on a chair of the balcony where Tanveer was in the room. But someone intentionally made it as news, being traditional; Tanveer's family could not bear this news. They were shattered and told her to not to show her face to them. Farhaan also broke their engagement without listening to us. Tanveer was very upset then. I said I would help her to meet Farhaan but one day she went from there without telling anyone. I tried to find her but I can't. Later I found a letter from her. She wrote me that she got to know that we were trapped. That person who framed us called her and wanted to use her against me. In order to save me from that worst situation she had to gone from there. She knew my study was so important to me and that's why she sacrificed her own studies. I lost my best friend forever. She saved my life that time; otherwise I will not be here today. I tried to find her but can't trace her. Then Iast year I found out she is dead. She worked as a Nun and lived in Algeria. She never came back to India to her family. She sacrificed whole her life for helping poor people." Asad completed his story avoiding the name of the person who framed them.

Zoya understood his plight. He lost his best friend without any reason. Then how will he believe anyone and also he was feeling guilty about Tanveer's life. This is reality and he had to survive with it. She said nothing about that incident; no questions, no consolation. Zoya sighed heavily and held his hand. "Let's go Mr. Khan otherwise we will be late, Ammi is waiting for us."

Asad said nothing and nodded then said..."by the way I want to clear that I thought I loved that girl but now I know I don't love her."

Zoya was baffled. She did not understand what he was saying.

Asad said it again, "I don't love her, Zoya. I confirmed it to you, so don't take it seriously now."

Zoya nodded her head. The burden over her heart was gone...puff!!
