I was just 13 but still the famous student of Maurya high school, Mumbai. My guitar concerts were popular all over Mumbai. Music was my friend, my life or I should say reason why I survived. Concerts, music competitions, music nights were a part of my daily routine. I learned it from my Baba (grandpa) since I was 4. His head was always held high in pride when his eyes came on me.
I don't know what was there in his eyes but I always gave me strength to work more hard. My days began with him and ended with him. He always woke me up after my sleepy nights saying, "Princess, take your time." and then he used to go to my stop so that my school bus doesn't go without taking me to school.
In afternoon he always used to get me my favorite Ice-cream before having lunch. My parents were quite busy with their work so Baba had taken my responsibility. At night before going to sleep, I always had a new lesson of guitar from him but nothing stayed that way for long.
Baba's condition was worsening every minute so he was shifted to the hospital. Mom and Dad consoled me on a fake hope of his recovery and I simply believed. But one day I was passing by parent's room I heard my dad speaking in a weak voice to mom. I had never seen my father in such a position quietly I listened to their conversation.
"He won't survive even doctors have refused to treat. Though I'm Kria's father but her every responsibility was done by Baba. No one will say anything to her I myself will talk to her."
All these days my heart couldn't find the courage to see him. It is difficult to see your loved ones in pain. That day I had a concert so I went to meet him in hospital to take his blessings. I always did this before every performance. He was in ICU under observation I sat next to him. "Baba"
I took his hand in mine, "Baba, look your Princess is here." His eyes opened slowly and lips gave a smile. He couldn't speak much but I understood his words through his actions and touched his feet before moving out. "Kria, driver will you drop at hall. Sorry Princess, I and your Dad can't accompany you to the concert."
I completely understood their position so I left alone to rock the stage. People in the hall had already started shouting for my name. The crowd collected there made me made me realize of my success that I achieved at a young age. "Good Luck.. K" I said to myself and taking my guitar I[her look] went to the stage.
Concert was amazing like always, I decided firstly to go home and change. Then go to hospital to tell Baba whatever happened during concert. But When I opened the door of my house I didn't knew how to react. My lips as if forgot how to speak. Baba had left this world.
Some incidents make a drastic change in life, that moment had broken me to quite an extent. My parents couldn't see me like that. Dad got a job offer from Chicago so we shifted from India in a hope that I might begin to relive again. I had turned 17 being this way but their hopes were still on hold as after Baba left I left music too. All my song books and Guitar were locked in a cupboard.
I couldn't make more friends in the new city and it wasn't the fault of my classmates. It was just that I couldn't retain believe in friendship. It was raining when I left for school. "Hey Kria." Emma said to me and Joanna. "Hello" I gave a smile. Emma and Joanna were only the two whom I knew well but mostly I [her look] preferred staying alone.
"Done with the computer assignment?" Joanna asked. "Hmm."
I walked inside the classroom taking seat. "Good morning." Our professor said entering with a new boy. "Guys and Girls please welcome a new member in our class, Reyaansh Singhania." I didn't look up neither was interested my concentration was completely on my books.
I was writing some important points when someone's face fell in by notebook. "Yeh kaun mar gaya meri book pe?" I muttered. "Excuse me, Can't uh see?" I said. "I'm sorry actually my foot got stuck in someone's bag."
When I looked down it was my bag only which I had kept in an untidy way, "Sorry" I said. He stood there right next to my seat for few minutes. "What is it?" I said.
"Can you shift inside there's no vacant desk?" I never shared my desk but this situation gave me no option. I took my bag and shifted inside, He settled next to me. I gave him a continuous deadly stare. When he saw me staring he kept his elbow on the desk and stared back with a smiling face.
"Why are you staring?" he said. I didn't reply continuing to stare more deadly. "Arrey ab tum mujhe aise dekhti rahogi den main tumhe aise dekhta rahunga to?"
"To?" I said.
"Ab aise dekhte rahengey to humare beech kuch ho jayega. *Ahm Ahm* so let's give some attention to the lecture." After that I didn't even gave a single glance to him. When glass got over he got up from his seat. I was still writing something. "I'll see you soon Miss??"
I looked at him and without saying a word I again started writing. He gently held my hand and moved it aside from the notebook. After closing my notebook his eyes went to the name slip where my name was written. "Kria.. right. I'll see you soon Kria." He winked and left.
