Chapter 7

"I love you, Khushi."

Khushi's breath hitched hearing the three magical words from Arnav. She knew this is what Arnav wanted to say, didn't she?

Then why was she feeling like it was just unexpected?

Why was she feeling like she has embraced the every happiness of her life in that particular moment?

Why was she feeling like this is the truest confession she had ever heard from anyone?

Why was she feeling like it was the moment which just defined her entire life?

Did she doubt Arnav's love for her?

Hell no, because every time and every moment she looked up at him, she found him right by her side, guiding her, leading her and loving her like no one has ever loved her.

Every time their eyes met, she saw the affection, love and possessiveness in his eyes which was for her.

Only HER.

Then why she wasn't able to say anything? Why her throat felt too tight to say anything? Why couldn't she just reciprocate his feelings and make him happy as much as she is right now?

Tears brimmed in her eyes and she found herself looking up at him. He was looking at her with so much hope in his eyes that she cursed herself for taking so much time.

She opened her mouth to say something when the music stopped and the lights were back. Everyone surrounded them, saying how perfect they looked while dancing.

They both nodded at everyone, pasting a polite smile on their faces but their eyes were sad. As Khushi turned to Arnav, she was held back by some ladies and Arnav's mother for introductions. Feeling impatient, she greeted them and excused herself from them saying that she needed to fix her dress.

Walking away from them, Khushi looked around searching for Arnav. But he wasn't there.

Keeping a hand on her heart, she closed her eyes and whispered Where are you, Arnavji?'

Arnav was sitting in the empty gazebo which was built just a bit away from their reception party venue. He looked around, trailing his gaze over the flowers and lights which made it look beautiful before looking up in the sky at the moon.

He had thought to bring Khushi here after the dance but after what had happened, he just left for here alone.

Was he disappointed, hurt or more, angry over Khushi's inability to reciprocate his love? No, he wasn't.

Because truth to be told, he knew all of this is a bit overwhelming for her. First they got married within a week after a formal proposal was made to Khushi from his parents.

And then he had showered all the love he felt for her, on her.

He knew that she was confused over why he loved her so much? Over how can he love her so much after knowing her just for 2 weeks?

So what was this feeling in his heart that was pricking him like a needle? Oh yes it was there. The shattered pieces of his hope that maybe Khushi will reciprocate his love like the way he did.

After all, he had seen traces of love in her eyes for him.

"Arnavji."

He looked up startled and found Khushi standing in front of him, looking panicked and out of breath. It looked like she had run her way to him.

He smiled, feeling a lot better. She came looking for him. Yes, she cares for him. Or may love him?

He didn't had the time to dwell on that thought as just then, Khushi knelt in front of him, hugging him fiercely. Exhaling deeply, he hugged her back pulling her up and settling her on his lap.

He had just buried his head in the intoxicating fragrance of her hairs, freeing them from the bun when he felt hot tears cascading down on his left shoulder where Khushi had rested her head.

"Khushi..."

"I am so sorry, Arnavji. I wanted to talk to you but peoples kept coming to us..." She started her explanation, not caring whether her voice was breaking in between. She was scared out of her wits when she was unable to find Arnav. She was running here and there like a mad woman when she finally spotted him.

She was halted in middle of her talk when Arnav kissed her fiercely, his hand wiping her tears at the same time. Pulling back after some time, he rested his forehead against her and whispered caressing her cheeks "Khushi, will you do something for me?"

She nodded immediately wanting to correct the mistake she had committed unknowingly. His fingers tangled in her hairs, tilting her head up making her look in his eyes.

"Do you love me?"

"Yes, I love you Arnavji."

He shook his head "No, just look into my eyes and tell me do you love me the same way I do?"

She looked in his eyes and felt tongue-tied. How can she say she loves him the way he does when she clearly didn't?

He loves her crazily but she loves him as her husband, doesn't she? Love is unbound and limitless, she has heard that many times but does she love him like this?

Maybe yes or may be no, she didn't know.

"Arnavji...I...I..." She fell short of words, struggling to say anything that might depict her plight. She panicked, knowing she might lose Arnav if she didn't short her feelings soon.

Keeping a hand on her shoulder and squeezing it gently, Arnav stopped her once again "Khushi, you don't need to say anything. I understand. I am willing to wait for the day when you feel the same way for me. Don't say anything to me just to please me."

"I am sorry, Arnavji." Khushi whispered, closing her eyes in regret and shame. How can she hurt the person who gave nothing but happiness to her? He was hurt by her but still was smiling for her.

Arnav made her stand up, locking her in his embrace "When you will feel the same way about me, you will tell me right?"

"Of course" Khushi replied immediately. She saw Arnav coming closer, staring intently at her lips and closed her eyes in anticipation.

"Oops I swear I didn't see anything."

Arnav and Khushi jumped away from each other, startled at the sudden intrusion. They looked up and saw Akash standing in front of them, his eyes closed.

"WHAT THE HELL, Akash?" Arnav shouted, looking outraged.

"Hello to you too, my dear brother. Everyone is looking for you two." Akash opened his eyes and grinned cheekily at Arnav.

"Have you ever heard of the word privacy'? Stop poking your nose in my life." Glaring at Akash, Arnav bit out looking irritated.

"Atleast you should be grateful of the fact that I didn't see anything." Akash pointed out, chuckling.

"And you should be grateful of the fact that I helped you when you were trying to woo Payal. Hadn't it been for me, you would have never got to know what she likes. If she even got a whiff about it, she will be so angry on you that all the romantic plans made for her were my ideas actually." Crossing his arms, Arnav replied arrogantly.

"WHAT!!!"

Arnav, Akash and Khushi turned back to see Payal standing there, her eyes full of anger as she titled her head to glare at Akash "Really Akash?"

"Payal I can explain." Gulping nervously, Akash stuttered looking scared.

Stomping her foot, Payal stormed away from there. Akash ran after her, shooting daggers at Arnav meanwhile. Arnav smirked and shouted behind Akash "Sleep tight on the couch tonight."

He looked at Khushi who was staring at retreating figures of Payal and Akash, biting her nail in nervousness. Keeping a hand on her waist, Arnav drew her closer "Don't worry about them. They will be fine by tomorrow."

"You know when I first saw you?"

Khushi looked up, staring at Arnav through the mirror. They were finally back from party and Khushi was now taking off all the jewelleries.

Her hands reached to the back, to take off the necklace "When your family came to see me, maybe"

Arnav chuckled "No, it wasn't. I first saw you at the temple with your mother on the weekend before we visited your house. I was there with my family. You and your mother were at the stairs when you saw a small girl missing a step and falling backwards. You rushed to save her, letting the pooja thaal fall on ground. Your mother scolded you a lot for letting the thaal fall but you smiled, happy about being able to save the child. That day, I was impressed by your selflessness. Then every day I saw you either with your friends or with kids, laughing and spreading joy. I was smitten by you when few days later, Maa showed me your picture for marriage. I said yes' immediately."

"Really? It sounds like..." Khushi trailed off, lost in thinking about it.

"Like our fates were intertwined? Like we were bound to get married?" Arnav offered, smiling knowingly.

"I don't know, Arnavji. But yeah it seems like that." Khushi stood up and turned to face Arnav.

"Then I am happy it happened." Arnav replied with a smug look on his face. He smiled as Khushi got on her tip-toes and kissed him.

"May be I don't love you like you want me to but I still love you. Does it make any sense?" Breaking the kiss, Khushi said nervously.

"Oh trust me, it completely makes sense." Tugging at her hand, he pulled her closer letting the duppatta fall on ground. His hands reached at the back to untie her dories as she laid her head on his chest, shying a bit.

And I am back. Well thank you all for your wishes. I am feeling much better.

The reason behind writing this particular chapter is to show that life is not always a bed of roses. We all have our shares of disappointments and heart breaks and a married life goes through it at any point of life not that I know about it actually. I am just a student right now. So yeah, but still life goes on right?
