CHAPTER 1: IN CONTROL...
Anyone who looked at Khushi Singh Raizada right now as she walked into AR Designs, would say the lady never smiled but those who knew her personally would say she had her fair share of reasons. The image she gave of though never allowed anyone a glimpse of her personal life. She was dressed in a blue saree with a golden border and a long sleeved blouse, her hair pulled up into a neat pony tail. And the mangalsutra that rested proudly around her neck and the touch of sindoor on her forehead never let them forget who she was.
She was Khushi Singh Raizada, the wife of Arnav Singh Raizada, their former boss. Yes, their former, because now the reigns were now in his wife's hands. She was now the CEO of AR Designs and had been so for the past two years.
Khushi greeted everyone politely and walked up to his office. She would always say his, because if she didn't , she felt as though she was saying that he was dead. And that was one thought and feeling she just couldn't bear.
Khushi entered the office and picked up the phone, 'Pam, please send Mr Mathur up. Thank you.'' She sat down on the chair which still had a hint of his cologne. After two years, his office still smelt like him. Not that she would forget how he smelt. Just then she heard a knock on the door.
'Mam, you called for me.'', said Aman Mathur.
'Yes Aman, please come in and take a seat. And please don't be so formal with me.'', she said slightly smiling.
'I wanted to know how the Singhania project was coming along. Have the preparations for the fashion show began yet?''
Aman felt a bit uncomfortable but answered anyway, 'Well, I spoke to Mr Singhania's PA and he told me that Mr Singhania hasn't signed the contract yet. Apparently he still has some doubts on whether AR Designs will be able to handle the show, you know since...'' , he trailed off.
Khushi understood what Mr Singhania was implying and it made her furious. She was going to teach that man a lesson. 'Aman I want his number.''
Aman looked hesitant. 'Aman now...''
'Okay, here it is.'', he took out his phone and scrolled down to the number, handing it to Khushi, who dialled it on the office phone.
'Hello Mr Singhania. I'm great thank you but I'll be even better if you tell me why you have doubts about us being able to pull off the show.'', she strummed her fingers on the table as she waited for a reply.
'Mr Singhania, AR Designs has been handling your shows for the past decade. I don't see what the problem is.'', Khushi knew instantly what he was going to say.
'Well, Mr Singhania, this isn't new to you but still I'll remind you that I am in charge of this company and its success and reputation is everything to me so I can assure you that we do not do useless work. But its fine, maybe we'll go with the Mehta's show instead and remember that AR Designs gets first preference when it comes to venues and not to mention investors.'' , Aman gasped out loud, his eyes going wide.
'Great Mr Singhania, I look forward to working with you. Yes email my PA the details. Have a nice day.'', Khushi cut the call and let out a breathe she didn't even know she was holding.
'Done.'', she said smiling at Aman.
'You just had to play the Mehta card huh?'', said Aman amused and moved to get up.
'It had to be done.'', she answered in an indifferent tone.
'I know and I'm glad you did. Khushi?''
'Yes Aman.'', she said looking up at him
'He would have been proud of you today.'', Aman gave her a sad smile and walked out.
Tears rolled down khushi's face as she whispered, 'I hope so.''
Khushi walked through RM's doors and straight up to her room. She laid her bag down and grabbed a salwar kameez and towel and went into the bathroom.
When she came out drying her hair , she was surprised to see Anjali Di sitting on her bed.
'Di? Aap yaha? Did you want something?'', she asked going to sit beside her.
'No Khushi, I just thought I would come ask you how your day was and stuff. So how was your day?'', she asked smiling brightly. It still amazed Khushi. When Anjali Di smiled, it lit up a room and she was glad that she didn't let the past two years get to her. She wished she could be like her.
'Di, it was the usual, hectic, you know. Back to back meetings. I didn't even get a chance to visit...'' , she trailed off, feeling sad. Though the feeling was habitual these days.
'To visit Chote,'', Anjali finished the sentence for her. 'But Khushi, its okay. Chote would have understood. After all, he worked too. And please don't be afraid to take his name in front of me. I won't break. Instead, I hope for my Chote to wake up.'', said Anjali, crying and holding Khushi's hands in her own.
Khushi looked away, letting her own tears fall. Anjali turned her to face her. 'You still blame yourself, don't you?'', she asked her , wiping Khushi's tears.
'How can I not Di? If I hadn't forced him to go out that night, he wouldn't have ended up like this. I should have just told him but I wanted to be all filmy and surprise him over dinner and I ended up losing him and the baby Di. I should be in that bed Di, not him.'' , she sobbed, clutching onto Anjali. 'It should have been me.''
Anjali couldn't stop her tears now. 'Nahi Khushi. That's not true. And your Arnav is not gone. He is still here. Don't give up and as for the baby, it was fate. You are not at fault. Okay?'', Anjali caressed Khushi's face in a consoling way.
'Now wipe your tears. Your Rohan Jiju will be home soon and Drishti will wake up from her nap just now and plus Nk and Lavanya are coming over so there is no room for tears okay?'', she hugged Khushi and gave her a smile.
Khushi nodded. Anjali got up and said, 'I'll see you downstairs.'', Anjali smiled while Khushi gave a weak one and limped out the room.
Khushi looked longingly at their wedding photo that hung on the wall. God! She missed him so much...
Well that's, chap 1. Please let me know what you think. For those of you who are wondering why Khushi is so uptight, well the obvious being that Arnav is in a coma and also that she blames herself for his state and other things that will come up later.
