Very well written . I understand why khushi is not ready yet to share all her fears to arnav. The way you are building story its really great.
This update is dedicated to Sona257, Amanram and AnupamaJY. The comments you all have posted on my SS are very valuable to me. So thanks a ton for being awesome readers that you three are, to this story.😃 🤗
@Sona257:Dear, no one has ever called me doll except you in writing world. I am flattered with the way you praise my story. Thank you 🤗
@AnupamaJY: I can't tell you how much happy I was to see your comment on last update. Totally loved your comment always.😳
@ Amanram:Dear, you really cracked the past. The hints I gave on last update was noticed by you so perfectly that I am so impressed by you.👏
So Arnav is getting more and more glimpses of how the past has affected khushi. I love khushi putting Arnav on the spot about their marriage and the way she talks about people lusting after a beautiful face but not trying to know the person for who they are. this has a direct connection with her past and that horrendous event for sure.
This is what I wanted to convey with last update. That lift incident wasn't about whether Arnav cares about Khushi or not, it was about Khushi's fears resurfacing. Everything about past included in last 2 days is about Vishal and Khushi, hinting what had happened actually.
Khushi is estimating Arnav's qualities as well as he is doing with her.
ArHi SS: A Thing Called Marriage
Chapter 16
Love. A Feeling that connects a person to another creating an emotional bond between them.
It is said that, you can't fall in love or out of love with a person on your will. Love is a feeling that you don't know can connect with whom, neither can you predict whether it's a lifetime bond or a bond which is meant to be forgotten with time.
Some peoples learnt it through the easiest way, whereas some learned it the hard way. Anjali Raizada nee Anjali Jha is the person who belonged to the latter category. The assignments that she had been correcting lay forgotten in front of her as she was lost in thinking the conversation she had with her husband, only a few hours ago.
"You think it was all easy for me. It kills me whenever I think how I treated you; how I killed my own child without even knowing that it was there. If I have built everything again, it is for us- you and me. You can't snatch my life from me, Anjali. You are my life and I won't leave you ever. Just give a chance Anjali. I won't let you down again."
She closed her eyes, clueless about what she is going to do. Seeing his crestfallen face, his troubled expressions had left her in pain. What is she doing? Wasn't she the one who always knew that she loved Shyam more than anything, more than herself?
But the real question that was pricking her heart was, will she be able to love Shyam once again like she always did? Giving him a chance wasn't the problem but working things out between them was the main issue.
Will they be able to reignite the chemistry, the spark of love that was between them? What if she gave him a chance which may ruin thing further between them?
She held her head in her hands, a dull pain throbbing as always. She knew that it's not long before her BP will rise and once again, she will be the cause of worry for her brother. She didn't want that. She didn't want to trouble her brother when he is taking steps to embrace the brightness of his life, Khushi.
"Oh Shyam, I wish you couldn't have done all that 2 years ago." She whispered, tears trailing down her face.
"Didi, I was ..." Khushi entered in Anjali's room saying something when she abruptly stopped seeing how Anjali hastily wiped her tears before turning towards her, faking a smile.
"Are you alright, Didi?" Khushi asked, looking concerned.
"Yeah Khushi, you were saying something?" Anjali tried to change the topic, not wanting Khushi to know anything.
"Woh I was just wondering why you didn't came down for tea in evening. So I came to check if you are alright." Khushi explained, her eyes scanning Anjali's face to know what was going on.
"I was tired so that's why I didn't come down." Anjali lied, not looking at Khushi.
Not probing her further, Khushi talked to her for few minutes on random topics, which improved Anjali's distressed mood a bit. Khushi left after making sure that Anjali's alright.
As she walked towards her room, only one sentence flashed in her mind again and again which Arnav had said only 2 days ago.
"If Di's happiness lies with Shyam, then I won't stop her."
She now knew how true it was. Earlier she had resolved to not interfere in this matter but after what she had witnessed few minutes ago, she felt her resolve weakening. Anjali's happiness mattered a lot to Khushi always.
And now she knew what she is going to do.
She opened the door of her room, her eyes wandering around before stopping on Arnav who was sitting comfortably on the bed, his laptop on his lap and his eyes as always glued to it.
God does this guy ever takes rest, she wondered before walking up to him and just stared.
She wasn't going to disturb him but that doesn't mean that they were not going to talk, she concluded with her eyes glued on him. And her a little bit insane-stare session bore its result too soon.
Feeling her eyes on him, Arnav tore his eyes away from his laptop and looked up at her, "What's up?"
"Finally. Listen I need your help." Khushi said walking towards him and sat in front of him.
"What is it Khushi?" Arnav asked curiously, keeping his laptop aside.
"I need Shyam Jha's phone number." Khushi demanded, looking calm and composed.
His eyes flashed at her in shock as he said "Why?"
"Arnavji, we need to do something for Anjali Didi. You know, I want to see her happy. I want to talk to Shyam." Keeping her hand on his, Khushi explained patiently.
"But I have tried earlier Khushi and it never worked." Arnav countered back.
"Maybe we need to change our tactic." Khushi pointed out, looking as determined as ever.
Arnav shook his head and then gave her Shyam's number, "I am telling you Khushi, it's of no use."
"We will see about that." Khushi whispered as she dialled Shyam's number and moved out to talk to him. Their talk went on for 30 minutes or so making Arnav curious about what she is planning to do. He just hoped that whatever she is planning work enough to make his sister happy.
"Dadi, can I come in?" Khushi asked apprehensively standing outside. Devyani who had been reading Ramayana, looked up and nodded closing the holy book at once.
Khushi stepped inside looking down, fidgeting with the bracelet she had been wearing in her hand "I was just wondering if you would like to have breakfast with us today?"
Raising an eyebrow, Deyani replied surprised "But Khushi you know, I always eat very early in the morning. I already had my breakfast."
Khushi's eyes met Devyani's showing nothing but shock. Recovering quickly, she looked away and said in a low voice "Dadi I was just wondering that we all don't spend time together as a family. I mean, you are always busy in your religious works, Arnav and I spend most of our time in office and Didi in college. I mean there should be a time when we all should sit together and talk and spend time like a family. So I thought that we should have our breakfast and dinner together, as a family."
Khushi held her breath as Devyani looked thoughtful, as if gauging the words just spoken by her. At last, she looked up at Khushi and replied "Hmm, it sounds good. But I can't eat my breakfast twice today, right?"
All the hopes that Khushi had in her heart dashed out the moment she heard Devyani's reply. She nodded sombrely and was about to step out when Devyani spoke again "But I can sit with you all, right?"
Turning around quickly, Khushi stared at Devyani in astonishment who just smiled. Beaming at her, Khushi shook her head frantically before going out of the room. She clapped her hands together in glee, excitement shone her face as one of her tactics to bring the broken family together worked.
When Arnav and Anjali came out of their room, they didn't know that something different was going to happen today. They were checking their stuff when they heard familiar voices. They looked up to see a sight they had forgotten a very long time ago.
Occupying a chair of the dining table, Devyani was engaged in a light conversation with Khushi as she kept the dishes on the table. Dazed they both kept walking as their eyes refused to avert from the scenario.
4 years. It had been 4 years since they had seen their grandmother like this. An incident that had not only killed their parents, but had also broke their family apart. 4 years had taught them many things. They had learnt to not get dependent on anyone else other than each other, to not expect getting back what they had once.
There was a time when Arnav and Anjali didn't have a meal of the day without teasing with each other which often resulted into fights, which defined the bitter-sweet sibling bond they have always shared. There was a time when they didn't know the meaning of the words pain and sufferings.
But those moments looked alien to them now. They are now used to having their meals in complete silence. They were well versed to the word- pain and sufferings.
They both looked at each other simultaneously and either of them didn't fail to notice the sheer moistness of their eyes. Anjali walked to Arnav's side and wound her arm around his, silently supporting him and assuring him that it's alright.
They walked to the dining table hand-in-hand. Devyani and Khushi looked up the moment they walked in and smiled at them.
Taking their usual seat, they started their breakfast not failing to notice the amendments that were being made into their broken life. They looked at the person behind all this who was smiling brightly.
Khushi.
The person who had unluckily became the cause of the destruction of this family but they had nothing against her now. She had entered in their life again but as an angel.
Making amends to make sure they get what they deserve.
It wasn't like they didn't know how to do all this but they had lost all their hope for this. The serenity of their life.
After breakfast where Devyani tried to initiate conversation with him, he got up to leave for work. Today he tried to not be bitter towards his grandmother, letting go of all his grudges he held against her.
"Arnavji, can I go with you?" He stopped and turned to see Khushi, standing behind him.
He looked back at Anjali, who quirked an eyebrow and had a teasing smile tugged at her lips. Looking back at Khushi, he nodded and walked out with Khushi trailing behind him.
As they both got inside the car, Arnav couldn't help himself from asking "Why aren't you going with Di, today?"
"Woh, I have an early meeting today with a sponsor. I don't want to be late." Khushi explained, her hand reaching out for seatbelt.
"But Aman said that you had meeting with sponsors yesterday?" Arnav frowned, starting to drive the car.
"Yeah but one of the sponsor is quoting very low price for the show. I tried to talk to him but he is adamant so I am meeting him to discuss about it further." Khushi replied looking ahead, her face showing her disapproval regarding the certain person.
"Is it so? I should talk to him I think." Arnav replied, pondering over the whole matter.
"What? No, I will handle that myself. A deal is a deal." Khushi said stubbornly.
"Khushi, I was just teasing you yesterday." Arnav explained, wanting to help her desperately.
"But I am serious." Khushi countered back, firm on her decision.
"This is ridicules, Mr Mishra. How can you quote such a low price for AR designs? We all know that it is a very reputed fashion house and I am sure that you don't want to lose your sponsorship for its upcoming show." Khushi argued, raising her voice.
"We all know that very well, Khushi. But recently the share prices of AR designs have fallen down a bit, so it's obvious that we don't want to invest too much money in any future ventures of AR." Dressed in a metallic three piece suit, Mr Mishra argued back, a well-built man in mid-30s.
"Then I don't think that we can settle this issue. And I am afraid that AR Designs won't sign any contract with you for the upcoming show." Throwing her hand up in air in frustration, Khushi bit out.
"I am sure that we can settle this in private. What are you doing tonight?" Mr Mishra asked boldly, his eyes leering at Khushi, making Khushi retreat back in disgust, realizing his intentions. Her blood boiled seeing his gaze fixed on her body as bile rose up her throat. A similar bad memory flashed in her mind, making her tremble for a second.
Khushi stood up immediately and was about to shout at him when a voice thundered from the entrance of her cabin "MISHRA!!!!"
They all looked up to see Arnav standing there, his form trembling with rage and his eyes looked murderous. His eyes were cold, red and his stance looked more like a predator all ready for the kill.
Khushi stood up from her chair followed by Mr Mishra and his associates. Arnav's eyes softened as he looked at Khushi and said "Go out, Khushi."
"Arnavji,..." Khushi tried to say something to Arnav spoke again, raising his voice "Go!!."
Eerie silence fell in the cabin as Khushi walked towards Arnav, gesturing him to calm down but he refused to look at her.
The moment she went out of the cabin, she heard another shout "She is my WIFE, Mishra."
Turning, Khushi kept looking inside the cabin which was locked from inside by Arnav after her exit. She saw how Arnav walked towards Mr Mishra and though she didn't heard the words spoken by Arnav, she absolutely saw the look of utmost terror on Mr Mishra's face.
And in 15 minutes, she saw the biggest miracle of her life. Mr Mishra apparently became the only sponsor to quote the highest price for the show and ran out of the premises as soon as he signed the dotted lines under the hard and scrutinising gaze of Arnav.
Only then, Arnav looked at her softly and his eyes showed nothing but hidden concern, care and possessiveness. Are you okay?' She heard his silent question.
She walked to him and held his hand silently, smiling at him gratefully.
He nodded, gripping her hand tightly in his.
So this is it for now. I couldn't help but notice my reader's weak response to last update. And now I am wondering whether you all not liking the changes I am making to the story though all the comments showed the opposite.
Please respond to the story readers. Earlier, I used to think that it's just another story I am writing but since the time I have started another SS, I know that this story is special to me. The eagerness, passion I have for this story is so not the usual.
About Khushi's past, well I am building the situation now. I can't just pop her point of view out of nowhere right?

And i won't update next chapter till the time i am sure that most of readers have read it. If it was up to me, I would have updated every day this month, but unread pm's and reader's late response stops me.
