Khushi felt a shiver run down her spine as the biting chill of the evening breeze slipped under the comforter Arnav had thrown at her for the night. Her teeth rattled stubbornly as the hair on her arms stood to attention, urging for her to stand up and knock on the locked french doors, to plead for entrance into a bedroom that offered warm water and a warm bed.

She had been confined to the life of a prisoner who had committed the most heinous crime. Punished under the reign of a husband who refused to listen and mocked every night by the reflection of a destroyed woman staring into the depths of a calm poolside. The dark circles and pasty complexion that darkened her once ruddy face... the monotony of a once enchanting laughter.
They were testimony to the temporary sham that was her six month wedding. Khushi had withered away by the rejection, and all that was left was a hollow shell of a wife watching her husband as he turned in his sleep, dreaming of a happier world where she knew she didn't exist. She laughed at the irony, as the first drops of rain of the impending storm above her head mingled with the tears of the constant storm raging within her heart.
