It was her birthday cum engagement today and two years had passed by since then. From the past few months she hasn't heard anything about him. She derided her own fortune for doing such a cruel thing to her. In all these two years never did once she lived her life according to her wishes. It was Shivam, her so called elder brother who was managing all the events of her life. She was a puppet in his hands. He was nothing else but a creep, rapacious guy. Calling him a human would be a scar to all the living beings because he was such an inhuman and ruthless creature who only cared for himself and not even about his dying father.
No one would ever believe that this guy would stoop so low. This callous guy had the guts to party two days later his dad...oops, step dad expired. Kriya's dad and Shivam's mom got married after the divorced their respective partners. Her step mother was not less than a b****h. She was a woman know for her excellence in portraying fake emotions. With her sweet and seductive means, she managed to transfer the whole property on her son's name, leaving nothing for Kriya. Kriya's father believed that Shivam and his mother really loved her but little did he know that it was all an expertly enacted play.
But like they say, the evil comes to an end one day, her step mother died in an accident. Kriya was the only one who was happy apart from the others. Even though her step mother wasn't there to torture her, Shivam completed all the formalities to make her life a hell. After she lost her father, her life was more miserable than hell. Shivam fixed her marriage with Ajay, another b*****d like him. Ajay had helped Shivam in dealing with the losses that his company incurred and also promised him that he would sign a contract with his company only at Kriya being the cost. As Shivam is an avaricious guy, he literally sold her in that demons hand. And today on her birthday she was getting engaged to Ajay.
Kriya always refused this relation. She with all her heart and soul wanted to be only his. Buthe vanished like a magic spell disappearing in the air. She had last heard about him was ten months back, through their mutual friend Swayam. Swayam was her best friend, her brother and her sole companion after him in this merciless world. Sigh! She hadn't heard about himin these ten months and it made her worried about him. All she hoped was that he'd be fine. That's all she actually wanted; his well-being.
Suddenly her phone rang drifting her out of her thoughts. She smiled on seeing the caller ID.
"Hey Swayam"
"Hey Kri, I need to meet you, it's urgent."
"Swayam, is everything fine?"
"Yeah, just have something important to tell you. Meet me at the park in an hour."
"Okay, see you there."
Just as she put down her phone, her so called brother along with his wife entered her room.
"Planning to go somewhere sissy?" He asked.
"That's none of your business." She snapped at him.
"Oh, how we wish it wasn't. But unfortunately it is our business." Tanisha, his wife spoke.
"Whatever, now if you two would leave my room, I need to get ready." Kriya replied.
"Yeah sure, but remember one thing, in any case you try to escape your engagement tonight then you will have to face the worse." Tanisha said in a warning tone.
Kriya pushed her away and yelled "Get out of my room now."

"I'm sorry for being late." Swayam apologized to Kriya who was waiting for him from the past half an hour.
"Not a big deal."
"So, are you ready for tonight's party?"
"Do I have a choice??"
"No I guess."
"Sam what's so urgent that you wanted to meet me?"
"I...err...have a bad news for you."
"What??"
On getting no response from Swayam, Kriya spoke "Is it related to him??"
"Uh, yeah."
"Swayam, spill the beans now."
"Ten months back, he started out for Dehradun from London. And the plane in which he was travelling convened an accident."
Kriya's facial assertions changed its contours. Her fingers reluctantly crossed hoping he would be safe. She blinked her eyes indicating him to proceed further.
"Out of all the passengers only few could survive and others expired. Most of the passengers who survive were women and children and were brutally injured. Only two of them were men. Out of these two one could be identified and the other's face was completely damaged making it impossible to identify him."
"Is he the other person?" Kriya asked almost in an inaudible tone.
"I've no clue. According to my agents, he must have died."
Kriya closed her eyes, welcoming the silent tears. Swayam side hugged her attempting to comfort her.
Kriya and he had met during their college times. She was the daughter of the richest industrialist of Deharadun and he was just a middle class person who lived alone surviving on the basis ofhis part time job. His parents had died when he was fifteen. From then, he took up a part time job to sustain his living. But the looks he had made everyone assume that he was no less than the wealthiest person. Though his income was meager, he still maintained himself. Both of them were in the same division and luck by chance they were made as project partners one day. From that day began their story. They turned out be good friends. They didn't realize when their portals of friendship turned into blooming buds of love. Kriya tried confessing it many times but he would act all ignorant. At first she felt highly offended with this behavior of his when she tried professing her love but then realized it was all her brother's actions. Shivam looked down upon the people who belonged to middle class. In any means he wasn't letting them be together and so he warned him to stay away from Kriya else she will have to pay for his deeds. He controlled all his emotions and stayed just as her friend. But his weakness was his eyes. They would always betray him when he actually needed their support. His eyes would convey all those unspoken feelings.
"I guess I should leave before those two devils pounce on me." Kriya wiped her tears and said while gathering her purse to leave.
"By the way, will you be attending my engagement?"
"I'm sorry sweety, but I can't. I just can't stand your brother. I'm really sorry."
""no problem."
"Take care of yourself and remember I'm always with you."
Giving a feeble smile to Swayam, she bid him bye and left. It was around five in the evening. The streets of Dehradun were so quiet and calming. Kriya was in the outskirts of city, away from the pathetic life of the city. Swayam and she purposely chose this park situated in the outskirts of city because it was so serene over here. While walking on footpath, her leg accidentally twisted and she felt.
Instead of helping her one of the passersby walked over her hand. He was heavily drunk and wasn't even able to stand on his feet. Kriya looked up to see who it was and was astonished to see the person. It was Ajay, her fianc. She felt like laughing at her cruel fate. Kriya winced in pain as Ajay stamped her hand.
A person who was standing at some distance rushed towards her to help her.
"Are you fine?" He asked while helping her getting up.
Rather than answering his question, Kriya was lost in her thoughts. As soon as the person touched her she felt as if he blood was gushing up. She felt the same warmth like his. Kriya looked up to his eyes. To her surprise they were brown chocolaty ones similar to that of his. But she pushed away her thoughts thinking that two people can have the same eye color.
"Yeah I'm fine, thanks for the help."
"That person was such a creep." That guy said.
"And the irony is that he's my fianc. I'm getting engaged to him tonight." Kriya said in a sardonic tone.
"Are you serious? How can a pretty lady like you get married to him?"
"Well sometimes fate plays malicious tricks on you. I'm no less than a damsel in distress you see."
"And I would love to be your knight in shining armor." As soon as these words escaped his mouth they shared an eye lock. Kriya was the one to look away first. After a brief moment of silence Kriya spoke "What did you say?"
"Ah! Nothing...just..."
Another moment of silence followed until Kriya spoke.
"I guess I should be leaving before my step brother gets on my nerves."
"What is your step brother going to do?"
"Well it's a long story. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Kriya."
"Nice name..."
"Thanks and can I know your good name."
"Reyansh."
"Thanks for the help." She paused for a succinct second and then continued "Reyansh."
