Chapter 19
"Geet, what is your problem here? Is your problem the chudail disturbing you or the fact that the chudail is disturbing your boss?"
"Both!", she said.
"How can both be a problem? What she does to your boss is not your concern isn't it?", he said.
"Mujhe aap lag rahan hain, ki mere boss bhi usse pasand karne lage hain", she said and moved her hands away from his and walked away out of the bedroom.
Maan wanted tolaugh but controlled it and quickly went to change and headed for dinner. Kiara and Dev were screaming on top of their voices over something, arguing with each other. Naintara and Geet were supporting the both of them and supplying them with relevant points as and when required. Daadiji rolled her eyes at how childish her children would get at times.
Maan walked in, found the situation chaotic, and shook his head in irritation. Having been a person who loves silence and serenity- he hated loud noises and chaos. Well, he wondered how he fell in love with Geet- who was all shor-sharaba, loud voices and masti filled with loads of hungama and chaos.
Dev and Kiara stopped screaming and looked at Maan- as he sat at the dining table and cleared his voice. There was pin drop silence for a few seconds as Maan looked at each of them and Dev and Kiara looked back at Maan- a little worried.
"What's the fuss about?", asked Maan, coolly while serving some roti into his plate.
"Ah nothing!", said Kiara, trying to cover up the whole argument.
"Oh really? So, Dev and you were arguing over which the salt and spice in the sabzi and dal is it?", he asked, sarcastically.
"Chance mile to uss topic pe bhi argue kar sakta hoon main, iss ladki ke saath", said Dev, softly, hoping only Kiara would hear- but unfortunately it had reached Maan's ears.
He raised his eye-brow and looked at Dev angrily.
"Have your dinner now!", he said, indicating both of them should sit down and eat.
"Sure!", said Kiara, "But before that- Mr. Dev Khurana- aap iss argument lose kar chuke hain. You've lost this time", said Kiara, proudly, while blowing a few of strands of hair that landed onto her face, closer to her lips.
"No way!", said Dev. "The argument wasn't even complete. How did the question of someone wining or losing it arise?", he asked.
"Right!", said Geet and quickly shut-up realizing she was adding fuel to the fire and that too in the presence of a bigger Fire called Maan.
"Fine! We'll decide now itself!", said Kiara.
"Ok enough now!", said Maan. "Not a word now from any of you", he said.
"But bhai!", said Kiara and Maan raised his hand, "Jab dekho chatter chatter chatter karti rehte ho Kiara- have you learnt this from your bhabhi?", he asked.
"Excuse me? Kya aap mere bare mein baath kar rahe ho?", asked Geet angrily.
"Ofocurse! Iss ghar mein aur koi nahin hain- jo tumhein iss khel mein hara sakhe", he said.
"I don't understand- argument Dev aur Kiara ke beech mein hui- to aap Geet ko kyun beech mein laa rahe ho Maan?", asked Daadima.
"Exactly", said Geet.
"Bro- now you two stop and first clear our discussion", said Dev.
"You call this a discussion, Dev?", asked Naintara.
"Ok now!", said Maan, realizing everyone was actively participating in the so called argument and contributing their bit.
"What's the argument about?", he asked.
"About jealousy!", said Kiara.
"What?", said Maan, throwing a side ways glance at Geet- who had just shot of their room for similar reasons.
"Yes!", said Kiara.
"Okay- what about it?", he asked.
"Bro, you tell me- when does jealousy arise in a relationship?", asked Kiara.
"You need to be clear about whicj relationship you are talking about honey", he said.
"Hmmm", she thought for sometime and while he kept thinking Dev said, "Bro, how does it matter?"
"It does matter Dev", he said. "Every relationship has its own set of parameters. For example, let's take a brother sister relationship. How many times have you been jealous of Kiara because she got more attention than you, while you were kids?", he asked and Kiara smiled victoriously and Maan quickly added, "Similarly Kiara would have been certainly jealous of you and me because she might not have certain freedoms that we do and she might have more restrictions than we do".
Kiara frowned.
"That's not the point bro- you are being very diplomatic", said Kiara.
"Arey wah! Just because you aren't getting to hear what you wanted to- he's being diplomatic is it?", asked Dev.
"I haven't finished yet!", said Maan.
"Bro, listen let's talk about a wife and husband relationship!", said Kiara.
"There is no place for jealousy!" declared Maan , much to every one's surprise.
"But Bro, that's not possible", said Kiara.
"Kiara- you are not in that relationship yet- how would you know?", asked Maan.
"You don't need to be in a relationship to know what it feels like", said Geet, "You can also look at others and learn from it and feel it", she added.
Maan smiled sarcastically and then turned to Kiara and said, "SO, you are feeling the feeling of jealousy from your bhabhi is it?"
"What? Why would I feel jealous?", bursted out Geet.
Maan smirked even more, "When I referred to Kiara's bhabhi- it could mean Naintara as well Geet! Just are you taking offense? Naintara hasn't spoken a word or reacted a bit to it. Why are you reacting to it?", he asked.
"Because Mr. Khurana you always target me", she said.
"That's your assumption", he said, "Now having spoken of assumptions- let me finish your question Kiara. Most of the times, jealousies and misunderstandings arise because of these assumptions. We assume many things and live in a world of assumptions- far away from reality. That's when all these problems arise", he said.
Geet glared at him. He ignored it.
"Bro, please illustrate with an example. People here aren't smart enough to understand simple statements", said Dev, angrily serving some dal into a bowl.
"Okay for example", he said, looking at Geet, while she looked everywhere but at Maan. "If my wife assumes I like someone else and not her then it leads to jealousies and insecurities", he said.
"Maan, why are you", Geet was about to say when Maan raised his hand and said, "Geet, I said for example- I haven't meant it literally".
"Okay, so if bhabhi assumes then it leads to jealousies. So how do you sort it out then?", asked Kiara.
"Well, she needs to come and speak to me about it or maybe start trusting me more and realize that once committed there is no looking back- no matter what! And that her husband has always been a one woman man and will always be", he said.
Naintara and Daadi understood the irritation on Geet's face and the seriousness on Maan's face. They smiled at each other and continued to eat their dinner.
"Hmmm", said Kiara.
"Hmmm kya? Har gayi na?", asked Dev, hitting her slightly on her head.
"Nahin bikull nahin", she said.
"Okay now the two of you stop it", interfered Daadima. Maan looked at Geet, who looked back at him with a slight feeling of guilt.
"So, jealousy" started Kiara and Geet cut her off, "Dinner kijiye pehle Kiara ji"
Maan smiled and Geet turned to look at him smiling and narrowed her eyes only to find him smile more.
"Samaj the kya hain aap?", came Geet yelling by the pool side.
Maan was having a glass of wine and reading some magazine. "Kya?", he asked, not looking up from the magazine.
She pulled it away and said, "Ab aise behave mat kijiye jaise aapko kuch pata nahin", she said.
"Kya hua Geet", he said, pushing himself back in the recliner chair, while holding onto his class of wine.
"Main jealous hoon?", she asked, "Aur woh bhi aapse se aur uss chudail ki wajah se?", she asked, angrily.
"Yeh maine kab kahan?", he asked.
"Dining table pe", she said.
"Geet, that was just an example", he explained.
"No it wasn't. You were clearly targeting me", she said.
Maan placed the glass on the table in front of him and pulled Geet. She fell onto him, with her hands resting on his broad shoulders.
"Why are you getting so offensive about a stupid example?", he asked, softly.
Geet looked into those honey brown eyes and did not know what to say. She tried to get up and go but Maan held onto her hands tightly and pulled her closer to himself- by holding on to her waist .
"Geet, do I need to explain anything?", he asked.
"No", she said, looking away.
"Are you sure?", he asked.
"Yes", she said, "Let me go!"
"Go where?", he asked.
"Back to the mansion"
"Why?"
"I'm sleepy"
"Oh C'mon until now you were wide awake and now all of a sudden you are sleepy is it?"
"Yeah!"
"Geet, what is it?"
"Nothing Maan! Let me go"
Maan left her hands and waist, "Go!", he said, softly. She looked at him for sometime and slowly moved away from him.
