".. her thoughts still on Arnav and the deal he had lost."
Khushi should have been pondering about herself more. But she chose to think, worry and sympathise about Arnav and his sinking company. Clearly that shows how much thoughtful and empathetic she is, to have put aside her own problems and give importance to Arnav.
".. the lights flickering open as Khushi switched on more lights in the living room."
Arnav was sitting in the darkness/semi-darkness. Khushi switching on the lights in the living room, perhaps symbolically meant that only Khushi would light up Arnav's dull life and a life which had no happiness before Khushi came.
I felt that the flashback has two distinct significances-
1. It shows that Arnav has come a long way. It shows his humongous will power to succeed- from being a bankrupt to being a well-known, wealthy business isn't at all a cakewalk.
It shows that he also had seen his hard days. That just makes him so, so human.
2. His promise to himself about always taking care of Anjali was exactly similar to Khushi's father's promise. Both of them can connect to each other at these basic levels, irrespective of being rich or middle class.
Anjali was a Poojali at that time also, doing nothing constructive to salvage the situation. God helps those who helps themselves. But she conveniently forgets that every time.
It's wonderful to note that how just a same unpleasant childhood created and shaped up two starkly different personalities- Anjali and Arnav.
I loved the description of how a much younger Arnav running across a cobbled path, hurting his feet in the process, with just two bread pakoras. The description is so, so real that it leaves a dull, throbbing and disturbing pain in the heart, after reading it.
Khushi and Arnav both had a difficult childhood, struggling with financial problems. Khushi grew up in an environment where each member was connected with the other by a sublime bond of love, faith and warmth. She saw her parents working together towards the same goal. There was support from each and every member. But sadly, Arnav was deprived of such warmth. He had no parents to look up to for inspiration. And this is the exact reason why, inspite of being in the more or less same tough situation, they grew up to be two different individuals with diametrically opposite ideologies and sensibilities.
Khushi is one Hell of an intelligent woman. I was just amazed to read how she put her point across, so efficiently. She let him know about her childhood in a very crisp way- not a word more or not a word less. And it is so praiseworthy of her to pluck up enough courage to tell about herself and her trying to give moral support to Arnav.
I just loved the line-
" Arnav could feel the warmth of her hand on his shoulder through his shirt."
This warmth just goes beyond a mere physical feel of warmth- it was more like a salve for him in the turbulent times.
I also loved the scene where he listened to every word of Khushi with rapt attention and he found it impossible to get his attention diverted.
Neither Aman nor Shyam's calls got connected properly. I feel that somehow this situation hints at something- Arnav and Khushi are not getting any external help (in the form of Aman, Shyam or Mr. Bruzzi's deal) to salvage the situation. They only have themselves- the support they can give to each other. This is the perfect situation where both can understand each other, help each other out of this mess and finally love each other.
Arnav was going to throw the phone in anger but stopped when he heard Khushi's alarmed voice. She is just like a calming force for him.
Khushi tried to ignore her splitting headache. But perhaps it couldn't escape Arnav's eyes.
It is so, so amazing to read how Arnav kept a close watch on Khushi despite being on an important call with Shyam. His eyes followed Khushi, whether by directly looking at her or watching her through the reflection.
".. Arnav immediately turned around, his blood running cold.."
".. suddenly finding himself go breathless.."
These are the lines which perfectly show that Arnav cares about her. Other than feeling an attraction, he has already started to feel emotions that are deeper in intensity than attraction.
The scene of Khushi collapsing and Arnav coming to break her fall, Arnav going down with her to dilute the impact and Khushi just lying lifelessly in his arms while he cradled her head to his chest, is one of the most vividly described scenes.
The opening scenes showed how Khushi was concerned about Arnav more than herself. The closing scenes showed how Arnav left his call and rushed to Khushi.
They care more about the other than themselves.
