Are Strangers Better Than Loved Ones

A girl in a ghagra choli was running with great speed. Despite of her high heels and the pain caused by them she was running. She was a wearing a purple ghagra choli with silver work on it, it was fitting perfectly on her petite figure. She was not looking any less than angel. She was running since a while so she stopped when felt out of breath.

Meanwhile she was breathing fast; someone was getting irritated by sudden voice of anklets. He put his pillow on his ears to avoid the noise but before pillow could do anything the sound stopped itself. He felt weird from the sudden silence so thought of looking out as he was disturbed by his sleep anyway. He peeked out through his back seat car window where he was sleeping and looked around the place. He found her standing a few steps away from the car her back was facing him. He could see her ghagra, his eyes travelled from bottom to top; he then saw her kamar band, then her beautiful back which was almost covered by her long curly hairs. She looked so beautiful from behind so his temptation to see her face increases and he gets out from the car.

He was wearing a vest and trousers. He stretched his arms. It was a cloudy day but Sun rays still managed to fall on his body making it glow more and make him look hotter. Light smoke coming out through his mouth due to chillness of the weather was making him irresistible. He walked up to her but before he could reach she sat on a nearby bench. He could see her beautiful face now a small smile formed on his face unknowingly but it vanished as soon as he saw tears rolling down her cheeks. Before he could do or say something a melodious voice reaches his ears and he realized that she started singing.

She takes out her maang tika then each and every jewelry she was wearing. She hides her face in her palms and starts weeping badly.

"Napkin" Rey asked politely. She lifts her head up and sees him standing in front of her wearing vest only. She feels uncomfortable and starts looking here and there. He looks at himself and realizes her reason behind her action so goes to his car wear his shirt and jacket and comes back to her. "So what's the problem?" he asked with concern evident on his face. "Well it's none of your business and leave me alone" she said with pain and anger both apparent in her tone. "I hate girls who cry and feels like it's my duty to stop them from crying so this is my business. Now tell me what's wrong?" he asked with his killer smile. "I don't talk to strangers and you are expecting me to tell you my problem" she replied in sarcastic tone. "Well my name is provider and I guess you are resister" he says and she looks at him with confused expression so he continues "look I am trying to provide you help and you are resisting it so I am a provider and you are resister." She looks at him in disbelief and says "you are crazy." "Thanks for the compliment" he says while pulling his shirts collar upwards feeling proud of himself. "It was not a compliment" she said. "Well if such a beautiful girl even throws a sandal at me than also it's going to feel like rose" he says with again his killer smile and this time she smiles too at his stupid talks. Seeing her smile he says "no resister that's cheating you can't smile then you will lose" he says frowning a little. She smiles again and this time little flakes of snow follow her smile.

She feels the snow and looks up in the sky and the snowflakes fall on her face. She was looking so beautiful that he gets lost in her beauty. She looks at him and feels strange as he was staring at her so she picks a little snow that was already there due to yesterday's snowfall and throws at him bringing him back to the world. She starts rubbing her hands and palms due to chill that increased more due to snowfall. He gets up and goes to the car while she follows him not knowing what else to do. He starts searching for something in the car and she peeks in and laughs and says "is this your house? Nice." "Was it a question or a taunt?" he asked bring his both eyebrows together. She laughed at his expression and replies "someone just told me that if a beautiful girl even throws a sandal it feels like a rose." Listening to her reply he laughs aloud and she also joins him. He looks at her laugh and feels so happy that finally she is laughing. Finally he goes back on searching and finds what he was looking for he extends his hand towards her. She looks at him and sees a jacket in his hand and without wasting a single second takes it and wears it. He smiles at her action and she says "I want to drink a kutting chai (tea) now." And she starts walking and he follows her thinking they will be going to a caf but she took him to the dhaba (stall). He stops seeing the dhaba and she turns around when she doesn't feel him beside her. She analyzes his expression and asks in a shocked tone "you have never drink tea from dhaba? Well it's going to be fun then let's go." Firstly he was uncomfortable but after first sip he started enjoying the tea. "So Mr. Provider what's your real name?" she asked with curiosity. "Reyaansh Singhania, people call me Rey and you can call me Provider" he replies with a smile. "You don't want to know my name?" she asked amazed as he didn't ask her about her name at all. "If you want to tell you can but I am going to call you resister only" he says with an assuring smile explaining her that name doesn't matter for him. "Taani, Taani Oberoi and of course you can call me Resister" she laughs at the thought of being called that. She was laughing until she saw him staring at something; she looks in the direction and sees a balloon cart coming towards them. She chuckles and says "don't tell me you like balloons." "Well only if I am sad" he says and looks at her confused face. "Kaka, pen paper hai?" he stops and sees the confuse expression of the tea stall owner and re-says "mera matlab hai kalam (pen) aur kagaz (paper) hai?" "haa kyun nahi [stall owner replies with smiles and proudly says] hum hisaab kartay hai is par ginat (accounting) mein kafi achay hain hum." "aray wah phir toh mei b kabhi ap se ginat seekhnay ao ga" Rey replies with a smile and takes the pen & paper from the owner of the stall who was now on 9^th cloud. They walk away from him and Taani asks "are you really bad in accounting?" "No who said?" he asked confused. She looks back and indicates towards the stall owner signaling him that 'what was all that about then?' "Ooohh that, well you see how happy he was after I said that I am going to learn from him and don't forget I am Provider and I just don't only bring smile on beautiful faces" saying this he winks at her and she blushes and they both walks to the balloon cart.

"Okay now take this pen and paper write down all your problems and sadness on it and don't leave anything okay?" he instructs her properly and she listens carefully and without asking anything and just trusting him she sits on a nearby bench and writes everything while tears roll down her eyes remembering all the bad stuff of her life. He patiently waits for her to finish then she was done writing she wipes her tears and gives the paper to him he folds it and then buys some gas balloons. He ties the paper with the strings of those balloons and hands it to Taani who was totally confused on what was he doing. She grabs it and Rey says "it's time to give all your worries, problems and sadness to Him and He will solve it for you" saying this he points towards the sky and looks up. When he looks at her she had tears in her eyes, he quickly goes near her and wipes her tears and says "Resister you know you should give it with a smile on your face show them (sadness) that they will have to now face Him and they can't do anything to you anymore." She smiles at him and then at the paper and leaves it and they both look at the balloons going away with the paper or should I say sadness, pain, worries and problems. Her face was glowing now she had full confident that He will solve all of it for her and all that happened because of Rey. She looks at him and smiles and was about to say thank you but he stops her and says "if you want to share your pain you can and waise bhi it is said that you can say many things to strangers than you can say it to your loved ones." She smiles and replies "are you really a stranger? (Without waiting for his reply she continues) I am an orphan. My aunt, mom's sister, have given me shelter in her house. She doesn't like me personally but is tolerating me because of the promise she made to my mom (tears rolled down her eyes the thought about her mom always does that to her) I was attending my best friend's Mehndi Ceremony today. But as I was laughing and playing around all the Mehndi sent by the groom's house fell on the floor." She stops and look at him and says to him moving her head from left to right making a 'no' gesture "I didn't do it purposely it happened" Rey cups her face and gives her an assuring smile showing that he trusts her and there is no need to give explanation. Looking at this she takes deep breath and continues "all the ladies said it was a bad omen done by me so I am an unlucky person and where I will go I will only going to spread bad omen." She stopped unable to say anything further and started sobbing badly. Seeing this Rey had tears in her eyes she gives her side hug and feeling secured in his arms she continues still sobbing "they even said that I will never get married. No one will marry an unlucky girl and after hearing all those taunts I ran away from there."

"Loh! Iss mein kya bari baat hai ladka hi dhoondna hai na. Chalo" Rey says and breaks the hug, holds her hand and starts walking while looking here and there as if he was searching something. Taani was hell confused and shock as she didn't expected this reaction. She expected either he will console her or will leave her thinking she is unlucky but he was doing something totally unexpected. She was in her confused thoughts when she sees him stopping all of a sudden. He turns around and she gives him a 'what' look he smiles and says "I found a guy for you." "What? Where? Who?" she asked fully surprised and shocked. "There" he says and points out on his left side. She looks at the place he was pointing and after seeing what he was showing her she bursts out laughing. "This…" she couldn't say it further her laugh wasn't allowing her to say anything. "What I am serious. Look marrying him is the best option. In winter you can live with him and summer you will be free from him. It will be so relieving you will not have to bare him all the time. What say baat pakki kardoon?" he asks seriously. "Are you serious?" she looks at him surprised as soon as he saw that expression on her face he started laughing he couldn't hold it anymore. She frowns at him but join him in laughing. They laughed for a long time and then after controlling her laughter fully she goes to the guy Rey chose for her and says "so pati dev apko mei patni k roop mein qubool hoon?" they both look at it and then Rey goes and tries to move his face up & down to show his approval but in that attempt his face gets spoiled and Rey chuckles and says "loh pura winter b nahi jhailna paray ga apne pati dev ko. Kyun sahi kaha na honay wali Mrs. Snowman?" listening to his question and seeing the poor condition of the snowman, Taani again starts laughing and then Rey goes to her and cups her face and says "Taani I will neither console you nor blame you for anything but I will try to teach you how to smile and laugh in the midst of all the pain and sorrows. I know it will not decrease or solve your problems but it will definitely going to give you strength to face it."

They both started walking back to the car and they both were quiet didn't know what to say or do and suddenly Taani starts jumping in excitement. Rey gives 'what' look and she points towards a kulfi cart and says "I want to eat kulfi." Rey looks at her shockingly and then at the surrounding which was fully covered with snow and asks "are you serious? It just snowed." "Of course I am. Come on don't be a spoilsport" she goes towards the cart and Rey follows her and then they both eat kulfi. They again start walking and then reach at Rey's car, he gives lift to Taani at her place and they both come out of the car and Rey simply sits on the bonnet while Taani leans on it.

"So I think it's the time to say Good Bye" Rey says with a sullen face. Seeing his face Taani says "don't worry we will meet again. We will right?" Rey looks at her and says "of course we will as we are… are... friends. Hmm?" he waits for her reply hoping that she says 'yes we are friends'. It was the moment where if he would have asked for anything he would have got it. "Yes we surely are friends, Mr. Provider" saying this Taani laughs and Rey joins her. After laughing for few minutes Taani decides to leave and Rey unwantedly lets her go but before that he gets her contact number as neither he nor she wanted to lose such a nice friend. Taani started going towards her house but suddenly she stops, turns and asks "do you really do that balloon thing?" Rey smiles at her innocent question and decides to say the truth "no I don't but from now on I will and I am sure you will too. Bye Taani. Take very good care of my Resister." Taani smiles and replies "I will and you too take care of my Provider. Bye" saying this she goes in her house and Rey also leaves with the beautiful memories made with her. It has been months since they met and there is not a single day passed that they haven't spend time talking to each other on phone. Taani daily thinks that 'are strangers better than loved ones?' Of course they are not strangers anymore but that day they were and despite of that fact he helped her live life in a new way and since that day Taani has cried less and smiled more.
