Chapter 8
As a child she always marvelled at the beauty of nature. She had so many times wanted to touch the cottony soft clouds in the sky. And now, she saw them eye-to-eye. The flight glided through one of the clouds and she felt a strange blur and lightening around her that made her smile. From this point, she could see the cities that looked like a carefully built quadrilaterals. The view was breathtaking.
What is more beautiful; she wondered, a journey or a destination?
All throughout her life it was journeys that she looked forward to, and the people she met in the due course. The moments she experienced had made her learn a great deal and hence she always looked forward to journeys more than destination, except for this time.
This time, it was the destination that filled up with a sense of anxiety and longing.
India. She's going to India.
She had always wanted to visit the country she belonged to. It was a country she left when she was just an infant, and had heard about it through her mother.
At starry nights, she used to lie down keeping her head in her mothers' lap while her mom recounted legends of her country.
"I want to visit India mom" she used to say then, only to have her mother smile.
"We'll go back Khushi" her mom used to reply pressing a warm kiss on her forehead. "When you're old enough and start your own family, me and papa will go back to our country and live there"
She remembered she used to get up of her lap, miffed. "I will come with you too"
She still vividly remembered her mother's laugh. "If my princess would come with me, then what about her prince?"
"I don't want any prince." She used to say back then, hugging her mom and hiding her face in her shoulder. "I only need my mom"
"Ma'm" a call from the airhostess disturbed her out of her musings.
"Yes?"
"This is for you," the airhostess said with a smile as she passed her lunch tray to her, "and this..." she trailed off looking at the vacant seat next to her.
"Leave it with me."
As she was left alone with her musings again, she couldn't help but to peek a glance towards her father who was sitting three seats behind her, and was in conversation with Suraj uncle. The laughter in his face told enough. He was happy. So is everyone...except maybe her.
"Khushi?" she heard the familiar voice that always managed to skip a beat in her heart.
She didn't raise her eyes, and she was glad he didn't prod further. Instead he took his seat next to her, back as he was from the washroom.
Silence prevailed between them, the silence which had entered their life silently that night on Diwali when he introduced himself to her. That eventful night, when she won something and lost something. The ever prevalent battle between her heart and mind regarding Arnav and Amar subsided the moment she saw him walking to her. In that moment when he walked towards her, the violent skip of her heartbeat told her the answer of the questions that bothered her. It was that moment when she realized the feelings of her heart, something which she had always buried deep within...but the moment she heard him introduce himself has she felt something change.
Arjun, his brother explained to a confused crowd that it was a prank pulled out on the to-be-bride that is her. Laughter was shared, not much questions were asked. It was an insignificant incident, all in good humour to the rest of the world. Only if anyone would have looked into her downcast eyes, had they realized it was not so to her.
She looked through her lashes towards the man sitting beside her now, only to find him lean back with closed eyes. To have the person you adore beside you in present and in a promising tomorrow should make your heart swell with happiness. Why is it then that her heart is reverberated only with a dull ache.
A dull ache that rooted from the lost camaraderie she shared with her boss.
The man sitting next to her was her fianc Arnav Amarjeet Singh Raizada. Funny that she could neither identify Arnav nor Amar with him anymore.
She turned back to look at the view to take her mind off things. After all, like everything else, these moments of calm were also numbered. She might not have time even to breathe once she steps in India, busy as she would be with the wedding preparations.
Her wedding. With him.
"Sleep. It is a long journey" she heard the deep baritone that was his voice, and she was glad that her waist length hair curtained her face, not showing her countenance to him. She was not ready to face him. Not yet. She hence followed his instructions.
She closed her eyes inviting sleep to take over.
It is indeed going to be a long journey...with him.

The update took a while but it is always good to get back to a nice story so thank you for updating.
My heart goes out to Khushi, yes it would be difficult for her; Amar and Arnav are two different people for her. In the process of her alliance being fixed she will miss out on the fellowship she shared with her boss.
Wedding bells it is and in India, I am so looking forward to the updates capturing their union.
