good start, eagerly waiting for longer updates, each update is like that hilarious dialogue in Munna Bhai MBBS, yeh kamara to shuru hote hi khatam hoti hai. ( just kidding) interesting concept plz continue. with longer updates.

Chapter#6

They sat in a tight silence, unsure how to broach the topic. What was one to say after two years of mistrust?

"Lets play a game" suggested Arnav abruptly. She looked up from the pattern of the bedspread, questioning his sanity. "Like, when you ask a question and I'll answer and vice versa ... but here's the catch ... we answer and question in just one line" he plodded on. Her expression cleared and she nodded. "So ... you start?" he asked her in a hopeful voice.

"Why did you come this far?"

"I don't know. I just did"

She swallowed and nodded. It was his turn.

"Why did you run away?"

"Because I wanted to."

He seemed to accept that answer.

"Why me, why not him?"

"It was easier to blame you."

She looked away.

"Why did you not tell us?"

"I tried to. Your sister ... I couldn't"

It didn't escape his notice that Di had become 'his sister'.

"Is it supposed to be this hard?"

The voice anguished, the eyes begging. She cleared her throat twice.

"I don't know" she finally whispered.

The silence was deafening.

She had not realized when she had fallen asleep. Her eyes were heavy with the backlog of sleep. She rolled over to the side and her eyes fell on his.

She took her time leisurely examining his face. She had done it many-a-times from her place on the bed. It seemed to her that when he slept, the facade of perfection slipped away to reveal the places life had chipped him. It felt easier to imagine that theirs had been a marriage of love.

Her heart bled a little when she realized that moments of such domestic peace had to be worked upon to be achieved. She settled down comfortably and drank in his sleeping form.

It had escaped her notice that while their bodies were evenly distanced from each other, they had slept whilst holding hands.

He felt somebody shaking him. He shot up in bed and looked around wildly. "Hey..." she whispered softly to him. "Its nearly six ... we need to get going". He nodded sleepily and swung out of the bed. "Have you freshened up?" he asked her. She shook her head and asked him to go first. He headed into the bathroom while she tidied up behind him.

It was as if the last two years had never happened.

Arnav quickly emerged from the bathroom and strode out. She acknowledged his gift of space and dived into the bathroom.

He sat on the stone bench as the clouds scurried on the grey-blue sky. Distractedly, he noticed that the clouds were shaped like a dog's head. He decided that he'd like a dog. If his grandmother could keep a goat, he could sure as hell keep a dog.

The scent of freshly scrubbed skin invaded his nostrils. Khushi plopped down softly beside him. "The aunty ji's son is going towards Delhi in his truck... they offered to drop you"

He nodded brusquely. "I have to tell you something"

She looked at him.

"I'm sorry I never fought for you, Khushi"

She closed her eyes and snapped them open as a loud voice hailed them.

"arre beta, Jeet nikalne vala hai ... aap log chal rahe ho naa?"

The spell of the undigested words was broken.

They nodded together and made their way to the truck. After many good bye's the truck and its inmates set off.

A/N: One more chapter to get over. And then, we can focus on getting ABOAW and TSD completed. *phew*

I just thought of you and look at you coming through. Awesome.
