PART FOUR.
'Well, f*ck you and f*ck your job. Oh and by the way, this white suit makes your ass look big.' Khushi shouted back at the dragon lady as she was escorted out the club by the security.
Damn it! This was the third job she had lost this month. And she was in a desperate need of money. She didn't want to think about the scene that would take place at her home, once her family came to know that she had again lost the job.
And it wasn't really her fault! She had done nothing wrong. Except stumble and fall down on the lap of a customer. Okay, she understood that it was not conventional, but everybody made mistakes. And it was her first day.
She wouldn't have been fired if it were not for that man. He could have very well saved her ass back there. But no! He had tattled to mommy like a five year old. And now, here she was.
Fired. Again.
Khushi noticed that it was almost eleven.
Walking on a deserted road, thinking how would she get a new job, she almost didn't see the Silver Merc which stopped right in front of her.
The car literally came out of no where. The passanger door opened and Khushi heard an omnious, 'Get In'.
Suddenly scared, Khushi looked around to see that there was not a single person around. She could clearly see the next days headlines.
Girl raped in a deserted alley.
Subtly, she put her hand in her bag, and searched for the pepper spray she kept for emergencies.
The person in the car honked. Khushi thought about making a run for it, but she knew that he would catch up with her in no time.
So she stood her ground, and tried not to show how shit scared she was.
'Listen, get out of my way. Let me tell you, I have a gun in my bag and I know how to use it. So all your plans of kidnapping me and turning me into your sex slave are void. Now let me go, and nobody gets hurt.'
It took Arnav a whole minute to process what she was saying. He was so stunned that he couldn't even utter his proverbial what the, that he specially reserved for such type of occasions.
He was about to scream at her and ask her to stop being silly and get in the car, when he saw her face.
He couldn't see her properly, but whatever of her he could see in the dim street lights, told him one thing.
She was terrified.
And suddenly he felt like a tool. Of course she was scared. Alone in a stranded alley with no person in sight, and a strange car blocking her way. Where had all his common sense disappeared? Scaring a woman in a lonely alley was not what he did.
He decided to get out of his car. If she sees him, perhaps she will stop looking so petrified.
Khushi saw the door of the car opening, and an expensive shoe made an entry.
And then Khushi saw wide eyed, that her kidnapper-to-be was none other than the Adonis who had made her lose her mind and cost Khushi her job.
Suddenly she was angry. Very angry.
So she did the only thing that seemed logical.
With a scream, she lunged at him.
Arnav had just a second of warning before Khushi jumped at him. And then, there she was.
Hitting him on his chest.
With her fists.
And it hurt.
Arnav tried to rein in his temper. He wanted to shake her till she came back to her senses.
Or may be kiss her until the only fighting that would occur would happen between their tongues for dominance.
And just as she was about to scrape her nails on his face, he decided he had had enough.
'Oh no, missy! You don't.' Arnav held both her wrists in his hands and pushed her back to the hood of his car.
'You…you arrogant, sorry excuse for a human being. Leave me.' Khushi shrieked.
'And have you trying to kill me again? Do I look like a fool to you?' Arnav asked.
'Oh, trust me. I wouldn't kill you off so easily. I'd make you suffer, you insensitive jerk.'
And Arnav wondered for the first time, if he had made a mistake in accepting the bet with Akash. How in hell was he supposed to groom this chit of a girl? She needed to wash her mouth with a soap to begin with. And she was way too feisty.
And clearly he was not on her best liked list. Would she even agree?
He cleared his throat and said, ' I have a proposition for you.'
Khushi narrowed her eyes to little slits after hearing him speak. She had read novels and seen movies.
She very well knew where this was going. Just because she fell on his lap, he thought he could ask her to do anything and she would agree. Well you have another thing coming buster. Khushi Kumari Gupta is not like the usual bevy of ladies you deal with.
'Who do you think you are? Aapko lagta hai ki aap ke paas paisa hai toh aap kuch bhi karenge? Let me tell you. I do not know what kind of ladies you socialize with, but I am not that kind. I am not interested in your proposition. Do you understand me?' Khushi spat back, with equal amount of disgust and self righteousness.
She was just mentally giving herself a pat on her back, when she looked at his face and knew that she was in trouble. Deep trouble.
He looked angry. No, angry would be an understatement. What she could see in his eyes was cold rage. And for the first time in his company, she was scared.
'Aaj bol diya. Aaj ke baad dobaara kabhi mat bolna. Do you understand me?' Arnav whispered in such a low voice, that she had to strain her ears to hear.
Khushi frantically nodded her head, immediately acquiescing to him.
Arnav closed his eyes and took a deep breathe to control his growing anger and mentally counted backwards to ten. When he was sure that he wouldn't do something that he would regret later, he opened his eyes and looked at her.
It was then he realized that there was only an inch of space between their faces. This close, he could see the little freckles that adorned her nose and her cheeks. Suddenly he had a raging need to lift up his hand and touch her. Just once.
To feel what her skin would feel like. Was it just as soft as it seemed?
Not wanting to wait another second to find out, he lifted his hand, and placed his fingers on her cheek.
Khushi felt an electric current pass through her as soon as his fingers touched her. With one hand still holding both of her wrists at her back, and on hand on her cheek, she felt ad if he was trying to suffocate her.
With him.
And the thing that scared her the most was that she like it. She almost willed him to do it.
He had started rubbing his thumb on her cheekbone, and Khushi felt as if she was in a trance. She didn't want this moment to ever end. Here standing in a deserted road, just him and her, she felt peace like she had never felt before in her entire life.
With in his arms, she felt protected. She wanted to be vulnerable for the first time in her life. Wanted someone else to take care of things. Some one else to be strong for just a moment.
Wanted him to rescue her.
And that thought was what brought her out of her reverie.
When had she wanted any man to rescue her? Hadn't she learned anything in the past years?
You don't trust anybody. Especially not a man.
No matter how good looking he was.
The good looking ones turned out to be the most poisonous of all.
She needed to get out of here and fast.
Arnav was busy looking at her face and staring at it so intently as if he was memorizing it, when suddenly she started struggling.
'Let go of me.' Khushi said in a very clear voice.
Arnav let go of her as if burnt, and called himself a thousand names in his mind. What did he think he was doing? This was completely inappropriate.
He turned his back to her, trying to calm his racing heart. Deciding to not get distracted and just cut to the chase, he turned to tell her that he had a very good job offer for her, when he was stunned for maybe the hundredth time that night.
All he could see was his car.
She had left.
