Chapter 14

It had been an hour that Khushi wanted to initiate talks of their alliance. As always it was going to be on her terms. All she wanted was for her family to just shut up and leave her in peace.

"Mr Raizada..ummhh..what was I going to say? Oh yeh! Can you pass me the client file"

Arnav looked at her waiting for her to say something. When he realised she was only talking about their project, he looked disappointed and answered dejected.

"Sure"

Payal came in looking worried.

"Mam, Mr Andrews wants his designs completed by tomorrow morning, he is flying out tomorrow afternoon...before he goes he would like to see what we have planned for him".

"Why are you looking worried? We will stay up and finish them" she flicked her file.

"Ummh Mam...sorry I can't stay tonight..." Payal hesitated.

"Why?" Khushi looked on agitated.

"Because my dad is in hospital I need to be with him...he is seriously ill"

Khushi looked on with a little concern spread across her face.

"Fine you go...I will have to complete it on my own".

Payal left thanking her boss.

Arnav looked back at her mumbling.

"How will I do all this on my own..."

"Ummhh Khushi I will help you" he said in his husky voice.

"You?!" she widened her eyes and mocked him.

"Yes me"

"No thanks...I will be fine"

"Listen Khushi you know it will take you ages..if I'm here I can half your work...just think about it...or...are you scared to be alone with me at the office?" he teased her.

She looked at him defiantly.

"Me and scared? FINE...after office hours we will complete it.."

"SO that's sorted then"

Arnav slammed his laptop shut and went off to have his break.

Khushi got up from her seat and folded her arms.

Why the hell did she agree to this?

Arnav joined Akash at the cafeteria.

"Wow bro can't believe Ms Gupta let you out!"

"Haha very funny! I am allowed a break...anyways whassup?!"

Khushi entered the cafeteria and stood there texting on her iphone. She could hear Arnav and Akash talking.

"Nothing bro..you tell me how are things between you and my bhabi to be?"

"Nothing man! You know her...haven't had the chance to ask her" he tried to sound cool about it.

"Bro Khushi will suit you man...just bite the bullet"

Khushi stopped texting and made an O shape with her mouth not really believing. Her shock turned into anger and she stomped her feet and left the place.

"Akash I don't know..you really think she will suit me?" he tried to fish for compliments.

"Of course bhai..."

"Okay I will ask her..we are working tonight on a project..so I will find a chance and ask her"

Akash looked on excited.

"Bro..you and Khushi all alone...? wowww...what a scene..."

"Shut up!" smirked Arnav.

Khushi sat in her chair seething.

*How dare he even think of proposing to me? I mean is that why he was being nice to me...? I mean I should have known...I need to put him in his position...*

She picked up her phone and then decided against it.

"No Mr Arnav Singh Raizada...I will take my own sweet time to get it through your thick skull..."

All day she tried to avoid Arnav as much as she could. She did not want to create a scene in the office.

Her mobile rang, she walked out to tell her staff to leave for home.

"Ma...? No Ma don't worry about my dinner...I will probably come very late...tell dad too...you know I got a project to finish tonight...our old client is flying out tomorrow...I will Ma...take care bye"

As she came down she noticed everyone looking weirdly at her.

"Is all okay?" she asked rudely.

"Yes Mam!" everyone chorused.

"You may all leave".

She heard a girl sniggering.

"You think it's true that something is going on between Mam and Arnav sir? I mean why they so eager to send us home? Someone told me she and ASR are staying till late working on a project".

This time Khushi did not stop her employee as she did not see the point. Payal came near. She looked at her with anger.

"Where is Riazada?" she demanded.

"Mam he is in conference room waiting for you"

"Okay fine you may leave"

Payal left fearing for ASR.

Khushi angrily looked towards the conference room and took long strides towards it.

The door was open. She came inside and kicked the door shut. Arnav looked up and then at the door.

"Khushi what have you done?!" he exclaimed like she had committed a crime.

"How dare you?" she snarled.

"How dare I? You are the one that slammed the door shut" he replied oblivious to her accusations.

"I bloody wasn't talking about the door...I was talking about the rumours going around MY office...why are people talking about us?"

"Are they?" he raised his one eyebrow pleased.

"Don't act smart with me...for the first time my employees are making fun of me because we are working here tonight...someone must have planted the rumour"

"Khushi...ignore it..you know how some people...probably someone heard me talking to Akash..I wanted to ask you...my family wants me to marry you...and I thought..."

Khushi began calming down as she wanted to talk about that too. She closed her eyes and asked rather nervously but trying to sound her usual confident self.

"Okay..I wanted to talk to you too...my family is forcing me too..I just don't want to get married yet...maybe we can help each other...I mean let's have a fake engagement..that way you can get your family off your back and my dad will be happy too"

Arnav looked on disappointed and then smiled. At least this way he could get close to her and that is what he wanted. He wanted his Chamkili to discover that he is her Nannav.

"Okay that is a deal then?" he pushed his hand forward. She looked and shook it. An electric current passed through them. She looked into his eyes and he was lost into hers.

*Rabba Vey*

She quickly broke the eyelock.

"Anyway let me get the files from my cabin"

She turned towards the door and kept turning the handle. Arnav put his arms in his pockets and smirked.

"Khushi that won't open"

"Why?" she tugged at it.

"Because the door lock is not working properly..only someone from the outside can open it"

Khushi looked at him and walked towards him annoyed.

"Why the hell didn't you tell me?"

"When was I suppose to tell? You know Khushi there is a saying a moment in anger leaves a thousand moments in regret"

She got her mobile and out and tried to ring. Her phone had no signal. She started to bang for help.

"Khushi there is no reception in the conference room..and no point banging..because everyone has left"

"So what are we going to do?"

He sat down and swivelled on the chair.

"This is going to be fun..hum tum ek kamre main bund ho..aur chabi ko jaye" he chuckled pleased with himself. He couldn't ask for more.

"Shut up Raizada"

The office light were shut down."

"Typical Delhi...lights are out too!" said Arnav slapping his hands on his thighs.

"What are we going to do?"

"We? I know what I am going to do..." he went near the window and pushed it open. He causally began opening his shirt buttons.

Khushi turned around looking embarrassed and shocked. She began lighting a candle which Payal had placed in the conference room.

"What are you doing?" she said turning her back to him. He flung his shirt off.

He looked at himself and smirked.

"Khushi its boiling in here...you can turn around I still got my vest on"

She opened her eyes and witnessed the pure masculinity of his body. She was unable to take her eyes away from him. She didn't know he had a toned and muscular body under his office shirts. She shook herself away from him. She saw a couple of files Arnav had placed on the table. She began flicking through them.

"Khushi no point looking through them...we can't hardly see anything"

"Mr Raizada, Khushi Kumari Gupta does not waste her time...so what if we can't do the designs we were meant to.."

She felt her breathing turn shallow so she took a few deep breaths without making it obvious.

She looked carefully at the file and could barely make out the words. She slammed the file down.

"Told you! You know what your problem is Khushi you don't like listening".

She wiped her sweat off with her hanky.

"Hey Devi Maiyaa it's so hot in here.."

As a gust of wind finally entered the room, she sat down trying to call from the office phone. Even that was dead. Arnav began smirking, he loving every minute of it.

Suddenly they could hear someone playing music loudly in their car parked outside the office.

Khushi got up and began trying to open the lock off. She froze hearing a song playing out loudly. Then Arnav and Khushi looked at each other and then looked away.

Khushi went to the writing board and began writing something. As she turned to leave she was about to bump into Arnav.

Lag ja gale...lag ke gale...sab gile tu mita de..aaa(Come and hug me..after hugging me erase your complaints)

Both looked uncomfortable. She tried to avoid him but he turned the same way and they nearly half hugged each other. It was like the song was matching their steps.

Khushi began fidgeting with her hair and Arnav looked at her cuteness. She looked up and he looked away. He began getting up from his chair and walked towards Khushi. A hyperventilating Khushi got up and went towards the shutters. He followed and put her hair behind her ear. She hyperventilated profusely. As she was about to move away he grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her back. He kissed the back of her head. As he opened his eyes he realised he was daydreaming. Khushi was a few yards away from him.

"What the!" came out of his mouth, disappointed at being brought back to reality.

Ankhon main tu, sanson main tu, poolo main tu, kaliyo main tu(You are in my eyes, breathing, flowers and petals)

He looked into her eyes and she looked back lost.

Aa basa hain dil ke raste, inn naino ki galiyon main tu...Kya karoon? Tu bata de...(You live in the alleys of these eyes..what shall I do, do tell me?)

Khushi tried avoiding looking at Arnav. As he came near to offer her water she politely refused and walked off. As she walked off she bumped onto the table with the candle. She burnt her hand.

"Ouch!"

Arnav grabbed hold of her hand and both looked at each other, they let go of each other's hand and then awkwardly walked away.

Tu kahe toh hath ye tera maang loon main iss jahan se..(If you say so I will ask your hand from this world)

Khushi began fidgeting with her fingers and avoided eye contact, whilst Arnav looked on enjoying her squirm.

Khushi sighed wanting the night to end so that they could be released from the room. As she turned she saw a pensive looking Arnav infront of her. She scrunched her eyes.

"What?!" she said annoyed.

"Khushi what have you thought about our enagagment? I mean we need to help each other...otherwise our families will make our life a misery..."

Khushi began thinking and then answered.

"Mr Raizada...I have thought about it...tomorrow we will announce to our family that we will get engaged...I don't want to upset my dad..."

"Good that is a deal then...but remember we need to stop being so formal and act like a couple...so no more of your clicking your fingers..."

She nodded her head and agreed with him. Arnav looked on smugly.
