HEY! 😊 I'm back soo sorry I took so long to update. I was really busy with school work.
Anyways here is chapter 3 and hopefully some of your questions would be answered 😊. I really hope you all like and enjoy it. Oh and please don't be irritated with me because I know her past took up a lot. I really tried to make it as realistic as possible and I put a lot of effort into it. So I hope you all like it 😊
Chapter 3
As the days went by, armaan and shilpa became more acquainted with each other. every now and again armaan would steal glances at her when she was busy with her work. They spoke, but she was still reserved. Usually, a conversation between them would only occur if he began speaking. He couldn't help but think though that when they were actually a step closer to becoming what some would consider friends, she would take a step back. He assumed that this was also due to her past.
A day had finally reached when he had gather up enough courage to ask her out. He was around while her beginner's class was in process and contemplated whether she should ask her. He hoped that she would not reject his offer. He waited approximately five minutes after Class was dismissed, then entered.
"hey," his voice was full of energy, but one could tell that he was nervous. He, in an attempted to hide anxiety, masked it with a smile.
She turned around and saw him standing in the middle of the room. Unknowing to her A small smile played on her lips. He smiled to himself. He wondered if this captivating smile of hers was for him.
"hi" her voice was soft'as usual.
"hi" his voice however showed his anxiety, "how was class?"
"it was good," a genuine smile came on her lips. He noticed that she enjoyed speaking of her class, especially the progress the beginners were making, "they are really showing signs of improvement," she said as she aligned the chairs. He looked at her, happy to know that she was readily engaging in conversation, "it's honestly a relief," she added with a slight giggle.
He smiled, "well they do have a great teacher."
She smiled, "thanks."
Shilpa made her way to the front of the class putting in some stuff in her purse.
"am shilpa," he rushed. She turned to face him while putting her purse on her shoulder. He continued, "would you like to go to dinner' tonight' with, me?"
He paused for a moment looking at him, her expression, unreadable. Then she spoke.
"armaan, umm, thank you for the offer but I really am not ready to go on a date as yet." Her words were honest and he heard it in her voice. A look of disappointment came on his face but he didn't miss that as she spoke the latter of her sentence that pain in her eyes returned. She saw his disappointment and felt guilty and somewhat sad.
"don't get me wrong, you're an amazing person and I would to get to know you better," he looked at her as she spoke. Did she really think he was amazing? Did she really want to know him better? These questions made his heart jump, "it's just that I'm still recovering from my last relationship," tears threatening to fill her eyes but she fought them off. Armaan didn't miss this though.
"I understand,"
"thank you," she turned to leave but stopped when she heard his voice.
"but what if it's not a date?" he said hurriedly.
She turned and looked at him confused.
"what if it's just two persons getting to know each other better?"
"well'"
"please. Just coffee,"
She waited a while. He looked at her eagerly waiting her response, "ok"
A smile came on his lips and for some strange reason she smiled seeing this.
"is now ok?"
"now?" he looked at her as she queried, "it's 1.30 in the evening."
"true, but remember it's not a date, it's two people getting to know each other," he said with a smile.
She shook her head while smiling, "ok."
"then shall we?"
"we shall"
'date'/coffee
They sat at the table in the corner in silence. He kept glancing at her and it seemed as if she never looked at him. He could bear the silence and decided to start a 'conversation'.
"how's the coffee?"
She looked at him, "good'hot," she smiled at the latter, he did too.
"so how long have you lived here?"
"well, this year will make it five years. You? Did you live here before?"
"I did. Actually before I left to go America, I never lived anywhere else but here."
"oh ok. Did you go to study in America."
"yes. I studied phycology well, began studying phycology, then figured that I really wasn't that interested in it."
"so you did music?" she asked sipping her coffee.
"basically yes. I studied and got my bachelor of music."
Her face lit up, "really? Me too,"
He smiled seeing her smile. It was breathtaking and it really did enhance her beauty.
"really. Were you always inclined towards music?" he asked honestly.
She nodded with a slight smile, "it was something I grew up with. Well music and dancing," she said with a slight giggle.
He smile widened. He wondered how she would look dancing; if her dancing skills were as perfect her singing and her piano playing, "you dance?"
"yeah, actually I would prefer dancing sometimes to singing and playing instruments."
He looked at her surprised.
"no no don't get me wrong. I love singing and playing instruments. It's just that dancing, when I was younger, was, well you could say a stress reliever." She said with another giggle. That as music to his ears, but this interested him.
"so why didnt you further into dancing?"
"parents,"
He gave her that confused look again.
"let me explain. My family came from a musical background in terms of singing and instrument playing, so when I was born, everything was already planned; I would be a singer, or an instrumentalist, for my parents, there wasn't really another option for my future, career wise." He listened very intensively to what she said.
"growing up, I loved music and when my parents heard me singing, every minute of the day, that increased their hopes. From childhood, I developed a passion for dance, so I would be singing and dancing," another giggle, " at around fourteen, fifteen, I went to my mom first and told her and I quote 'ma, what if I don't want to become a singer, what If I want to become a dancer?' she looked at me and honestly I was a bit hesitant in asking, you know fearing the response and then she gave me smile and said 'you do whatever you want, once you're happy'" she said with a smile, and armaan wore a smile too, "then I asked dad," her smile vanished, "ummm, that wasn't a success. He disapproved immediately and I didn't bother to ask again, but that didn't make me stopped dancing. I was irritated at first and then said that I would go ahead with singing not only because I loved it but I really wanted to make my parents, well in this case my dad, happy. I mean they did so much for me and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be where I am today. So I did my bachelors in music and I said, when I'm on my own, I'd further in dancing."
"so you're doing that now?"
She shook her head, " I was going too, then," her expression changed to one of distress and he did notice it, "then, a few incidents occurred and," she shrugged and looked down.
"what happened?" his voice was soft.
She glanced at him, "I really rather not speak of it,"
He understood, "ok," he glanced down.
"don't get me wrong," he looked up at her as she spoke, "I would tell you but, I never spoken of it,"
"no no don't worry, I understand."
They sat in silence for a few moments, not looking at each other. armaan glanced at his watch and realized it was getting late.
"you want to go, it's getting rather late,"
"ok."
As the days proceeded, so did armaan and shilpa's 'dates'. They were becoming close, so close to the point where they considered each other friends. Armaan loved it, shilpa was a bit hesitant at first but then became comfortable around armaan. Armaan enjoyed that fact that shilpa was now smiling a lot more, and that she felt comfortable when she talked to him. Sometimes she began the conversation.
Shilpa also was close in completion of her song 'my immortal'. He always wondered if there was a deeper reason behind the song other than it was a new piece she was working on. He never asked though in fear that it might be because of her past. He decided that he would not ask her about her past, also in the fear that it may get in between their now blossoming friendship. He figured that when the time was right, she would tell him, on her own.
This day was like no other. shilpa's class had commenced armaan was observing her and the manner in which she behaved with her students. She really was special; there was something about her that made everyone love her, especially her students. Probably it was because she was just being herself; loving, caring, in other words, in armaan's words an angel sent by God. shilpa saw armaan outside and invited him in. he was reluctant considering that her class was in process, but she was persistent. She didn't like the fact that he would have to stand for the next hour and a half, knowing that he would not leave. Throughout the class, armaan couldn't take his eyes of shilpa; the way she smiled, the way she interacted with her students enchanted him. At the end of the class, when all of the students left, armaan approached shilpa.
"going for coffee?" she asked with a smile.
He smiled, "yeah,"
She turned to leave but stopped when she heard his voice.
"shilpa," she turned and looked at him. She saw the nervousness on his face, it, frightened her.
"what's wrong armaan? Are you ok? You look a bit worried."
He came slightly closer to her, still leaving a great amount of space between them.
"shilpa," he put her purse down as he spoke, "I want to apologise."
She was puzzled, "apologize? For?"
"for asking you about your past that day."
She was still confused. What was he speaking of? Then she remembered. Her expression softened. He looked at her.
"you mean the first time we went for coffee?"
"yeah, when you were tell me about how you was going to further in dancing but didn't because of incidents that occurred.
she titled her head and gave him a soft smile. She came up to him, still, like him, leaving some space between them.
"you don't need to apologize for that,"
"yes I do, I was wron-"
"you wanted to know, so you asked. I don't see something wrong in that. It's ok. You don't need to apologize. Now can we go for coffee please, it's cold and I'm feeling cold," she completed with a giggle.
He smiled at her, "you really are different, and so is you way of thinking," he thought.
"let's go," armaan added with a smile.
Later that night
10:37
Armaan was in bed, trying to sleep. Thoughts of shilpa however, disrupted his sleep. A few minutes later though, when he was about to fall asleep, he heard his cell phone ringing. He cursed under his breath. He got his phone and his mood of annoyance immediately lifted to a mood of joy. shilpa was calling. He answered.
"armaan," her voice was soft. It sounded as if she was crying. It worried him, "meet me at the institution on the terrace." She hung up.
Armaan quickly changed his clothes, got on his motor bike and rushed to the institution. Upon reaching, he found the front door open with a note, "armaan, I'm on the terrace," signed by his angel herself.
He made his way up to the terrace and saw shilpa looked up at the sky. She heard when he closed the door. She didn't turn to see him, but began speaking.
"I was supposed to get married," he silently listened to her agony-filled voice as he approached her. "I was engaged for two years and on the night before my wedding, I got a call," he heard her her voice crackle as if she was fighting tears, "informing me that," he heard her sigh, "my fianc was dead," she closed her eyes as a few tear drops escaped her eyes and travelled down her cheeks. Armaan's eyes widened. He waited for her to speak. She turned around and looked at him. Her eyes were full of pain; they were red as if she was crying for the majority of the evening. He couldn't bear seeing her like this. He went up to her and stopped as she spoke. She took a breath and wiped her tears.
"we met at a party; his cousin's party. I saw him, he saw me. we didn't say anything to each other," he looked at the way, simply talking about this guy would put a smile on shilpa's face.
"I saw him trying to approach me but his family was only finding things for him to do. This amused me a bit. After a while, the lights when off and there was an announcement for a guy to come on stage, his name was shahid. When the lights came on, he was on stage. They wanted him to sing. He didn't really want to, but I saw him look at me. I saw a smile on his face and he began speaking. I remember what he said. 'you all want me to sing, but I don't want to' he laughed, I laughed and the audience laughed, he continued 'but there's young lady in the audience and since you all are persistent I would like to dedicate this song to her." He looked at me while saying and I know I was blushing because he signaled me that I was," a smile continued playing on her lips, "he began singing, not taking his eyes off me. his voice was amazing, captivating. I never heard anyone with such a voice. When he was finished, he came to me. i idn't know considering that my back was faced to him. I turned around to move but fell, well, was about to fall. He caught me," armaan noticed the slight blush on shilpa's face. A small smile played on his lips.
"we talked that night. He was so sweet, such a gentleman. He told me that he had heard of me from his cousin, and that he wanted to hear me sing. I was shy, so I didn't want to. He pleaded, very sweetly if I may add but I said no. I saw him going to his cousin and her boyfriend and whispered something to them. I was confused, a bit interested in knowing what he told them. He came back to me with a smile. Before I could ask him anything I heard his cousin, my friend, speaking. She was on stage, requesting me to come up and sing. I looked shahid who wore one of the most adorable smiles I had ever seen. I shook my head and went up. I had no choice but to sing. My friend was happy I sang, and so was shahid. When I came up to him, he said nothing, he just looked at me. I snapped my fingers in front of his face and then he spoke. He told that my voice was just as beautiful as my face. I laughed. He told me he was serious, then proceeded to tell me that the beauty of the night sky cannot compare to mines. He always knew what to say. After that night, we talked often; a friendship grew. After about four months of just talking, he asked to be my boyfriend, I thought about it then said yes. He said before we go further, in anything, he wanted to meet my parents and me, his. He wanted their blessings. My family approved of him immediately, and his approved of me. everybody loved him, he was so sweet, so gentle, so kind, to everyone and everything. I can't remember a day when he was harsh or when he raised his voice. Five months later, he proposed to me in the sweetest way possible, actually, in the most perfect way. I was angry with him that night, but we had a date, parents' permission off course. He carried me out to dinner, I wasn't speaking to him though. He made me sit by our table, it was us alone actually, in a garden, the lights went off, he said he was going to check the breaker and he was gone for about ten minutes. I was worried. When I got up to go look for him a spotlight came on me. I lookeda round and saw one on him too. He was on a smiple stage and had a guitar with him. He was smiling. I looked to his left and saw some violinist, a pianist, and some other musicians. They began playing, so did he. He got up, playing his guitar and singing and came up to me. I off course was crying. He gave someone his guitar, still singing, and wiped my tears. He knew I loved dancing, so took my hand while he was singing and began daning with me. at the end, he knelt down, told me all the reasons I was important to him, told me all the reasons he could not live without me, promised to keep me happy for the rest of my life I married him. I said yes, I loved him. Both families were happy. Wedding preparations began the next day. Our wedding day was set a week later."
Then armaan noticed that the smile on shilpa's face disappeared. Tears formed in her eyes
"Two days after our wedding day was set, my mom, dad, two brothers and sister got in a car accident. They died on the spot. I was in shock. I cried for days but shahid never left my side. He assured me that everything would work out, somehow. His family was very supportive of me as well. after some time, I didn't want to get married, it broke his heart, but his family made me realize that shaid would always be with me and they would too. A few days after, I decided that I won't let my family's death bring me down; I decided that i would marry shahid and to get my bachelor's in music for them; especially for my dad. I wanted him to see where he was, that his dream came through. Shahid supported me through out. He even decided that after I got that degree and we were married, I would further in dance. Time passed, and I was coping well, thanks to him and his family. On our wedding eve when I got that call, I thought my life was over. The only person I ever loved, my would be husband, was dead. I cried and cried. I locked myself in my room and attempted suicide. What was I to live for? I had no one. Everyone I loved and cared about was gone, was dead. His family got me back on my feet. Took care of me as a daughter, loved me like a daughter, a sister, sister-in-law."
Tears brimmed armaan's eyes as he looked at his angel crying. Shilpa wiped her tears and looked at armaan with a sad smile.
"you know that song I am always singing,"
He nodded and she continued, "it's called 'my immortal'. It's a song I wrote in memory of shahid and I mean every word in the lyrics:
'these wounds won't seem to heal'" she wore a sadder smile
"this pain is just to real," she looked at the sky while tears filled her eyes
"there's just too much," a lone tear escaped her left eye while she was looking at the sky, "that time cannot erase," she closed her eyes, looking down and tears trickled down her cheeks.
Armaan couldn't bear seeing her like this, crying didn't suit her. He place his hand on her shoulder.
"I loved him armaan," she sobbed, "I loved him," she rested her head on his chest while he attempted to soothe her.
