"Even when the universe has turned away, know that I am still here'"
Chapter 1
He looked at her through the glass wall while she played the grand piano. He was mesmerized by her; her beauty, her ability to play so well. He just wondered if she was going to sing. He wanted to know if her voice was as beautiful as her face. He stood, listening to her play without her knowledge. He was that much into her music that he was unaware when the owner of the building came behind him.
"Everyone who hears her play has the same expression."
He turned around, shocked, to find his aunt looking at him with a smile.
His aunt, Ms. Amrita Singh is the owner of this musical institution. She was fifty four years old and always possessed a love for music and fashion, classy fashion. She had no children of her own but treated armaan like a son.
He greeted her with a smile and a hug.
"My have you grown,"
He released her with a smile, "Well it has been five years."
His aunt's smile widened as he turned to continue admiring the beauty before him.
She waited a while then spoke, "Her name is Shilpa Molhotra." The guy turned his head slightly listening to his aunt, but still ensured that he could see Shilpa. She is the music instructor for all levels here."
"But does she sing?"
"Like an angel,"
"I could believe that."
"Come. Let me inform you of what happened in your absence."
Reluctantly, he followed his aunt out of the room and into the garden, which gave direct view of the room shilpa was in.
"We're now offering violin, drumming and dance lessons apart from the other instruments and we have an annual concert which both the instructors and students participate in."
She looked at armaan, who was walking but still was looking at shilpa. She smiled and stopped. He however, did not notice and continued walking.
"I saw her perform at a concert," he stopped as he realized who his aunt was speaking of. He turned his entire body to look at shilpa. His aunt stood next to him.
"I asked her to join us. She was hesitant but her family urged her to. She's been working her for about two year. The children love her and she loves them. She has a way with children. She quite reserved though. In all my years of teaching music, I have never seen someone as talented as her." Armaan listened carefully as he looked at her. "She doesn't only play the piano and sing. She also plays the violin and the guitar. She seems more attached, if that's the word I should use, to the piano and singing."
They looked at her. They saw a child entering the room and going up to her. She smiled and helped the child to sit on the bench, next to her. Then, she was helping the child to play the piano. shilpa and the child seemed to be enjoying themselves. A smiled played on Armaan's lips. Shilpa was definitely beautiful.
"I had never seen," armaan listened to his aunt while she spoke, "someone so young, so loving towards children, towards people on the whole."
"how old is she?" he asked not taking his eyes off her.
"twenty three,"
"a year younger than me,"
His aunt smiled, "yes armaan, A year younger than you."
His aunt's smile faded away.
"there's something about her though, it worries me,"
Armaan tore his eyes away from shilpa and looked at his aunt. "she smiles, often, but I can see that it's fake." Armaan glanced back at shilpa, "With the children, its real, but otherwise, it's fake. I see pain on her face, in her eyes, but she is reluctant to speak of it. But in all honesty, she is a beautiful girl; inside and out."
10 minutes later
Armaan passes by the room and hears the piano playing. He looks into the room and sees Shilpa alone. He waits a while in hope that she would sing. Then, thinking that she wasn't going to, he sighs, smiles and turns to leave. Her voice however stops him. He turns back and looks at her in amazement. She sang and played the piano with her eyes closed.
"These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
When you cry I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have (a lone tear escaped her left eye)
(she paused for a few seconds and opened her eyes. Then, she proceeded)
All of me"
She stopped playing and her eyes were full of sorrow, not tears. She looked down, wiped her cheek and smiled a sad smile.
He blinked and titled his head while looking at her.
"a girl like this, deserves to wear a smile."
He shook his and left the room.
Later that night
Armaan walked towards the window in his room. He stood with a slight smile on his face. Memories of Shilpa haunted him; her voice, her beauty'her smile. A wider smile played on his lips. He looked at the moon.
"only if I knew why she cried, I'd make sure that no more tears dare to fill her eyes." He paused for a second, "But my name is armaan malik'and I will make sure that this angel finds back her smile." He looked up at the sky as if speaking to God, "I promise."
