I support this initiative. I do not write FFs on IF, but I do understand how much effort goes into writing and publishing the chapters. The authors should be the sole owners and have to every right to protest when their stories are plagiarized. I posted this initiative on my twitter account and send note to the moderator as starters.

I strongly support your initiative. I an a reader of a lot of beutifull FFs on this forum. Even though I haven't wrote anything as an admirer of good works I can try to guess how much hard work is required to write. It is disgusting, and illegal to copy someone's work and post it as their own. I don't understand how can people do this. Don't they feel ashamed to do this. Its unbelievable. A little bit of self respect and mutual respect wouldn't hurt anybody.

This isnt really the first time this issue is coming up.
I am not a writer on the forum but as a reader here believe me it pisses me off that someone would plagiarise just for the sake of gaining attention. It really does show, Im sorry to say, how well raised they are. Cause plagiarism is no less than theft which as far as I know, goes as a crime in every country in the world so far.

Please look into the matter soon and make IF a more writer/reader friendly too ?

Excellent initiative! You have my full support..

Both blatant and subtle forms of plagiarism are rampant on this forum. The first type is easy to identify, but the latter is tough to decipher and prove, and hence, somehow seems more dangerous. I've been a victim of both kinds of thievery, and like many other writers on IF, am so fed up that I'm thinking about moving my fic to a protected blog.

An important aspect of writing is waiting for that moment when inspiration strikes. That particular instant when a beautiful idea dawns and you feel restless until you pen it down. But story writing is essentially about sheer hard work. It is about immersing yourself in an imaginary world and typing until your eyes and fingers hurt, your head aches and you feel temporarily drained of all emotions...apart from the happiness of knowing that you've managed to transcribe every aspect of that particular scene in your mind onto paper.

When a person plagiarises, he/she is essentially showing absolute disrespect for this hard work and passion of the original writer. Ignorance about the seriousness of this offence is very frustrating. But the basic insensitivity behind this sort of thievery is downright unforgivable.

Hard work and creativity of a writer should be respected. I truly support this initiative.

Noting the IP address of the plagiarizer and banning it will be a very effective solution to the issue, than mere banning of username.

Hopefully, this issue will be resolved soon. Then, the writers can post without fearing plagiarism and readers can enjoy reading the wonderful and beautiful stories this forum offers.

Thank God someone started something like this on IF. As of right now, I have one important Fanfiction in progress and I am terrified to add anymore. We actually had an incident of plagiarism, and I was horrified when I discovered that I had been reading someone else's work. Since then I've actually been living in fear about my own work. It takes hours and days to not only plan the story, but to incorporate symbols, and meaningful occurrences in the characters' lives. As a writer, days of your life are spent being that character, feeling their emotions and living the life long enough to write the story. It is a very arduous process, and nothing is more horrifying than knowing that someone somewhere can copy your work because of lax copy and paste policies. We need copyright regulations in place, and we most definitely need a permanent ban against plagiarisers. I have read some amazing stories on here that are the equivalent of contemporary novels with very well thought out plots and characterisations, and it would be terrible to have those fellow writers be violated in such a manner.

Please refrain from copying our stories, poetry, VMs, etc. and especially refrain from posting them without our permission. It is a violation against our feelings and an insult to the effort that we put in to give our audiences quality entertainment for free.

For those Moderators who have visited the thread, do something about this please! Some people only visit I-F for the purpose of reading, especially after the loss of an old show, so please find better methods of managing plagiarism issues.

Very well said. Plagiarism is theft and this has been said long back on the forum but no one seems to care. If the MODS take strict action for once then I think a lot of people will be aware of the consequences of stealing someone's work.
It's hard to see how someone can be so selfish when it comes to this cause everybody around is hurt by their action especially the writers who put in a lot of effort to show their talent and then comes the few readers who are innocent in all of this. A lot of people are affected but still they simply don't care!
It is very unfair to everybody. Even new readers are at a loss when they don't get a chance to see how good a story can be and have no way of asking the author for access. And even if they do, why should the author grant them access? Everybody would ask for the same thing, how would he/she know who is faithful?
I am a regular reader and someday I would like to write down a story or two but now I have to think twice before posting it on IF or anywhere else for that matter. I hope this protest turns out to be a success and we get rid of plagarism on the site so all the good writers can come back. I am with you and I will definitely spread the message.

This needs to be dealt with utmost urgency and strictness...we are all with the genuine writers who take so much time and effort to write such wonderful pieces of art. It is akin to a crime to copy some other person's effort and claim it as ones.
