She wil still be held responsible for plagiarism (if thats what the DT decides) because of the old rules which did not allow the previous writers to clarify.

But I would like to raise a point here, I have contacted Jot before in several regards to inspriation cases which I thought were plagiarism - and in all cases the writers have been contacted and given a chance to defend themselves.
I really don't know what happens behind the scenes, and not sure which writers are contacted and which writers are not.

But in the case of Gargee two things are wrong:

1) She copied the chapters - no credit given.

2) Credit given after being accused of plagiarism.

Going through the threads, I have seen many good arguments made. With regards to old rules and being trialed by them, I wanted to make a case for fair consideration for Gargee.

As with any fair assessment, while I agree the punishment should befit the crime, a person's track record also is considered in their judgement. If Gargee's track record is one that speaks for her credibility as a fanfic writer, than it seems more likely than not that she forgot to credit the original source rather than make a deliberate attempt at plagiarism. While I commend the lack of tolerance of plagiarism in this community, we have to consider if this was an honest mistake?

As for adaptation versus inspiration, I think it's been consensus there is no clear rules with regards to that. So really, the fault lies with the administrators for the failure of setting clear guidelines rather than the author.

Plagiarised ff : the third kind

Para

"We have to get to the hospital. Someone help me!" she cried in desperation.

He grabbed her hand, halting her attempts midway. "There's no point. Let me be Khushiji."

"No!" she uttered an impassioned denial, her shoulders shaking with suppressed sobs. Another man joined her, folding her into his embrace in a futile gesture of comfort.

"Why?" he asked the man lying on the ground calmly, as though they were in a board meeting discussing new design ideas and one of them was not at the brink of death.

"Because she loves you."

"But why.. why did you..." There was no need for him to finish the question. Everyone present there in the wedding hall understood all too well.

"Because I love her."

my ff reason i breathe

Those fingers conveyed more messages than words ever had but his mind refused to listen to his heart because he didn't have it in him to face burying another dream alive.

He could hear Aryan saying something to him and he tried to concentrate on his words even though the pain was taking over his senses.

"Why did you save me?" He heard Aryan ask but it was to Khushi that Arnav answered.

"Because you love him" he said

"Why did you risk your life?" she asked brokenly

"Because I love you."

It is not the mere lines that are stolen. The entire essence, the plot that made my FF is stolen.. if you read that ff, it is clearly a twin of mine..
if this is not plagiarism, i dont know what is

waiting for an appropriate action to be taken

Hi Shona_li. Hope you are well. You make some good points. Irrespective of IF rules an adaption cannot be carried out without permission from the original author and publishing house. Adaptation is a form of plagiarism too.

Hi Shona_li!

You have raised some valid points as well!

I think in terms of paraphrasing and adaptation, IF has made it clear that they aren't open to it.

I think this accusation of plagiarism stems from two things:

1) She did not credit at the start - doesn't matter if you paraphrase or if you copy word for word, you have to credit. AngelTeen had raised a valid point in my discussion with her, that when you are writing a story and if the idea is not yours you always credit.
A writer such as Gargee who has written several (amazing) stories in the past, who has had her work plagiarised (with and without credit given), has asked for that work to be removed, will know how crucial it is.

2) The whole essence of the prologue is exactly the same as the one in the book. Yes, she may not have written it word for word, however Khushi sitting up, drawing her knees to her chest, Arnav looking at her, lying at his side - even the start of the story was exactly the same.

Her new prologue is very different to the story, and if that had been the case at the start, this would not have happened.

Also, a lot of other writers have been accused of even smaller things than this by adhering to the rules presently active.
I think DT needs to establish a ground set of rules for everyone to abide by. Inspiration Vs plagiarism has always been a very thin line, and as you may have noticed already, we had a lengthy discussion about it :)

i have a question... what if someone is inspired from a particular scene from a movie and based on that she/he makes a whole new FF/SS which doesn't match at all with the original movie... what happens then? inspiration credit required to be given?

I think you are saying that inspired by a particular scene and then you wish to write it in your own way? As if what should have happened according to you?
Well in that case too credit should be given. After all, you got the idea from that only :)
