Part 8 Only Fools...
When Shyam Jha came back home, he was met with the sight of a hysterical Nani and his shocked wife, sitting in the sofa and staring at the wall. He dropped his case and rushed to Anjali.
"Rani Saheba! What happened!?"
"Ch-Chhote went to Lucknow!" she gasped.
"Oh, he has another meeting there?" Shyam asked, removing his shoes.
"N-No. To get Khushiji back" she said in a daze.
Shyam froze and stared at Anjali. "What?!"
It wasn't long before he joined the 'Shocked Raizadas' group.
Sometime back-
Arnav banged the door shut behind him and paced up and down the room. He couldn't just let her go like that! He stared at his mobile for sometime, and on impulse he called up the railway line.
"Hello, Delhi Railway Station Office this side, how may I help you?" a bored masculine voice said.
"Which train is leaving to Lucknow at the earliest?"
"XYZ sir. In 45 minutes."
"Could you tell me if a Miss Khushi Kumari Gupta is travelling in that Train to Lucknow?" Arnav asked.
"I am sorry Sir, but we cannot reveal such details!"
Arnav's temper flared. "Do you know who you're talking to!" he thundered.
"Sir, it doesn't matter! All-"
"You can kiss your job goodbye! You will be sorry you messed with Arnav Singh Raizada!" Arnav said, waiting for the bomb to drop.
Silence.
"Oh! I am sorry Mr Raizada... I didn't know it was you! Erm, what was the name of the passenger again?" The Railway guy was alert now and was puzzled as to why the great ASR would travel by train.
After looking into the computer database, he gave the details to Arnav.
Arnav smirked in victory and said "I want you to book 5 tickets on the same train right next to Miss Gupta's berth."
Arnav wanted to ensure that they had their privacy and by booking the remaining five berths, he was making sure that no one would intrude on their privacy.
"But S-sir they're all reserved for someone else!"
"Assign the seats somewhere else for them!" Arnav growled.
"Al-Alright Sir! You will recieve an SMS for your ticket for confirmation shortly"
Arnav hung up with a pleased smile on his face and packed some clothes. He had a feeling that it wouldn't really be needed, but Khushi never failed to surprise him. She maybe stubborn and he might have to go all the way till Lucknow if she didn't oblige... OR he may manage to convince her on their way itself!
He made his way downstairs with his case and announced that he was leaving to Lucknow and without waiting to gauge their reactions, Arnav left.
On his way, he called Khushi but she didn't pick up.
He reached the noisy station and stood out in the crowd. He grimaced; he had forgotten how crowded and noisy stations were. He inquired about the train and was informed that it had left five minutes back. Thoroughly annoyed, he got into a taxi and got the driver to drive him to the next station that the train would stop at. He caught the train just as it was beginning to chug out of the station.
Unbelievable! He, Arnav Singh Raizada, had just run after a train!
Once on board, he realized he didn't know Khushi's berth number. Damn! He fumbled for his mobile to check his seat numbers and found the battery to be dead. He was in the last but four compartment of the train. He ran his fingers through his hair and decided to keep walking to different compartments till he found her. The last four compartments were not passengers', so he could walk ahead.
After sometime, the train stopped at a station, and Arnav was annoyed that he hadn't found her yet. He had walked through 6 compartments till now. He heard someone say that this station sold good Jalebis and that was when Arnav knew Khushi would get down here. So, taking the nearest exit, he disembarked the train and looked ahead and sure enough, Khushi got down from a compartment which was 3 compartments away from where he was.
Patting his back mentally, he hurried to the compartment and boarded the train before Khushi could come. He soon found Khushi's berth, which he recognised due to her sequin-embroidered bag. Keeping his case on the top berth, he stepped out to call Anjali. After talking for a few minutes, he realized the train had started moving. He stepped back in and forgot to duck as he entered and hit his head. "What the-!" he said, and headed to Khushi's place to see her sitting with her eyes closed with a jalebi half way through her mouth. He saw the phone right next to her and said annoyedly. "Why the hell weren't you picking up your phone!"
He saw her shake her head and mutter "Good God! Why do I have to hallucinate now! I am trying to forget and here I am hearing his voice!" she muttered.
"Unbelievable!" he said, as he sat opposite Khushi.
Her eyes flew open and stared at him. Khushi blinked once, wishing for him to disappear. She got up and took one step towards him and stared at him intently. She poked his shoulder with an index finger and he looked at her with a 'what-the-hell-is-she-doing' look on his face. She closed her eyes and shook her head. She sat back on her seat with a thud and looked determinedly at Arnav. "You are such a Laad Governor. Why do you trouble me even when you are not really there? I am going to close my eyes and count to ten. By then, you better disappear or I will scream. I really must be going mad! I am hallucinating to such an extent that I can FEEL you!" she said.
"Besides, Laad Governor and train? What a joke!" she muttered.
And closed her eyes. "1...2...3...4...5..." she opened one eye, to see an amused Arnav looking at her.
"You're still here?" she said exasperatedly and closed her eyes again.
"6... 7..."
She sensed movement again and opened her eyes. He was gone! She was disappointed though, that he wasn't real and that was when she felt it... A slight caress on her right cheek. She turned to see Arnav staring at her, an inexplicably tender expression on his face. She reached out to touch his face, without blinking and ran her fingers from his temple to his chin softly. "Y-You are real, aren't you? Will I...Will I wake up and find you g-gone?" she whispered softly.
Arnav caught her hand, which was lingering near his cheeks and kissed her knuckles. "I am here Khushi..."
Khushi's eyes narrowed. "You're being too nice to me... Are you really real?"
Sighing, he leaned forward and placed a kiss on her cheek. Her hand flew to her cheek as she blushed crimson. "Y-You're really here..." she whispered.
She looked up to see him smiling at her. "Oh God! You're really here!" she exclaimed, louder this time and letting go of her shyness and inhibitions, she hugged him tight and shut her eyes tightly, with a small smile on her face.
He hugged her back and kissed her hair. "Only a fool would let you go Khushi... And Arnav Singh Raizada is no fool!"
