Smita,😊
Here is my interpretation for the Part 104.
In in this update of the saga of Arnav and Khushi, we find its filled with ecstatic, effusive, glowing, lyrical, radiant, rapturous, gathering of the clan after the rituals of the Haldi Ceremony.
It is RHAPSODIC.
Haldi was finally done, and NK & Aarti, along with the others, took bath and came down in fresh clothes.
Both of them had glowing faces, more from the happiness of their impending wedding rather than the haldi.
They joined their family in the hall, and sat around chatting with them.
"The family is a haven in a heartless world"
~ Christopher Lasch
Anjali said, "Artiji, did you ever think you would meet someone like NK Bhai and get married to him?"
"No.", Aarti laughed.
"What kind of a man did you imagine yourself marrying?", asked Payal.
"I never thought of marriage.", Aarti smiled at NK. He caught hold of her hand, and squeezed her fingers gently.
"Oh", she thought, "how horrible it is that people have to grow up-and marry-and change!"
~ L.M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island
Khushi, with a naughty look in her eyes, asked Payal, "What kind of husband did you imagine you would get, Payalji?"
Payal winked at her, and said, "A hero. Like Salman Khan.", she teased Akash.
Akash gasped. Arnav hid his smile. Mamaji doubled over with laughter.
"I wouldn't want to marry anybody who was wicked, but I think I'd like it if he COULD be wicked and WOULDN'T"
~ L.M. Montgomery, Anne of the Island
Mami laughed. "My poor Akash Bitwaa. He does not even watch Salman Khan's movies, Hello Hi Bye Bye!"
Payal sang,
Maine tho maanga tha, saheli jaisa saiyaan
Haan.. maine tho maanga tha, saheli jaisa saiyaan
Mua pale pada, paheli jaise saiyaan
Paheli jaisa saiyaan, paheli jaisa saiyaan..
Khushi joined in,
Bhoola bhoola sa rehta hai, jhoola jhoola sa rehta hai
Nayi Dilli mein, Bareli jaisa saiyaan
Bareli jaisa saiyaan, bareli jaisa saiyaan
Oh.. maine toh maanga tha
Na na na na. na na na na, na na na na...
Mami croaked, Sara din afwahon sa, udta phirta hai gali gali, Gali gali, mora saiyaan...
Rani sang,
Aake ghar anghithi sa, baatein karta hai, jale jale
Jala jala, mora saiyaan...
Anjali looked at Anand, and added,
Bawre ne hi, bawri kiya
Haai, maine kya panga le liya,
Chuna bhooton ki, haweli jaisa saiyaan,
Haweli jaisa saiyaan, Bareli jaisa saiyaan...
All of them sang,
Haan.. maine toh maanga tha,
Saheli jaisa saiyaan...
Khushi complained,
Uthte hi akhbaar pe, toot padta hai subah subah,
Bhooka sa mora saiyaan...
Mami nodded in agreement. Khushi leaned against Buaji, lamenting,
Biwi se zyada toh yeh laptop se hai juda juda,
Chipku sa mora saiyaan...
Arnav's laughing eyes warned Khushi of dire consequences.
Bawre ne hi, bawri kiya, kaise na bhala, jale ye jiya
Pade jhele na, jo daily aisa saiyaan, jo daily aisa saiyaan,
Jo daily aisa saiyaan... , Khushi continued.
All the ladies sang together,
Bhoola bhoola sa rehta hai... jhula jhula sa rehta hai,
Nayi Dilli mein.. Bareli jaisa saiyaan
Bareli jaisa saiyaan, paheli jaisa saiyaan
Oh... maine toh maanga tha, saheli jaisa saiyaan...
"Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life!" ~ Albert Einstein
Akash looked at Mamaji, Raj, Arnav, Anand, & NK.
"This is ghor atyachaar, Bhai! We have to protest against it!"
Arnav nodded.
"But no bhook hartal! Please!", said NK, scared.
"No, NK Bhai, no bhook hartal.", Anand laughed. "Don't worry."Anand leaned to whisper in the ears of the other men.
The ladies watched the men planning and plotting their downfall with wary eyes. Then they saw NK run up the stairs.
"A plan is simply what you decide to consciously & consistently focus on" ~ Brandon A. Trean
Soon they saw a manly figure make its way down the stairs, holding on to the railings carefully. NK was wearing a red sari from Khushi's wardrobe, holding the pleats up at his knees to avoid tripping on them.
All ladies stared at him, their mouths open. Aarti burst out laughing. Buaji exclaimed, "Hai Re Nandkisore!" and hit her head with her hand.
"Almost all absurdity of conduct arises from the imitation of those whom we cannot resemble"
~ Samuel Johnson, The Rambler
NK had the pallu over his head, exposing just his face. He was wearing a big red bindi & a handbag filched from Payal's room, and a big, gem-studded necklace from his Maasi's room.
He walked through the crowd, swaying his hips in an exaggerated manner, making the ladies giggle and the men smile. He reached the men, unzipped the handbag, and took out a belan, brandishing it.
"When people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other" ~ Eric Hoffer
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao..., cried Akash.
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao..., added Anand.
Anjali & Payal placed their hands on their hips & glared at their husbands.
Akadti hai bigadti hai
Hamesha mujhse ladti hai..., added Raj.
Rani rolled her eyes at her husband, who winked at her.
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao
Mujhe meri biwi se bachaa
Akadti hai bigadti hai
Hamesha mujhse ladti hai
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao..., all of them sang.
NK ran around, trying to hit the men with his belan, almost falling flat on his face, the pallu and the pleats of the sari getting him into trouble. He wished he had 10 hands to manage the sari, the handbag, & the belan...Really, how did women manage all these with 2 hands?, he wondered.
Jo dil ho pyar karne ka
To sau nakhre dikhati hai..., sang Arnav.
Khushi raised her eyebrow, imitating him perfectly. "Really?", she drawled. Buaji & Mami clapped their hands, laughing.
"Imitation is not just the sincerest form of flattery - it's the sincerest form of learning"
~ George Bernard Shaw
Gale liptana agar chahu
To susri taal jati hai..., sang Mamaji.
"Acha? Dekh lenge aapko...", threatened Mami, hiding a smile.
Na meri bat sunti hai,
Na mere pas aati hai...
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao..., pouted Anand.
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao
Akadti hai bigadti hai
Hamesha mujhse ladti hai
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao..., all the men sang loudly.
Mizaz uska bada kadwa
Mere ghar me kayaamat hai..., sang Mamaji, doing thumkas in keeping with the music.
"Aap to shutuppiya hi karlo ji!", said Mamiji.
Mai banda seedha saadha hun
Mere sar par musibat hai..., added Akash.
Main malik hun is ghar ka
Magar meri ye halat hai..., sang Arnav.
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao
Akadti hai bigadti hai
Hamesha mujhse ladti hai...
The men danced as they sang...
Mujhe meri biwi se bachao...
The ladies, not to be outdone, sang the last stanza of the film song,
Tumhi to ghar ki Rani ho...
Mera ghar baar tumse hai..., Khushi and Payal stripped NK of the sari, sending him circling as they pulled it off his body.
Kasam leloon, kasam leloon, mera sansar tumse hai...
Tumhi tum ho mere dil me...
Mera pyar tumse hai...
Mujhe meri biwi se milaa lo...
All clapped their hands, and fell into their chairs, laughing & gasping for breath.
"Khushi Bhabi, Payal Bhabi! You made me Draupadi!", NK complained."You did my kheer haran."
Buaji pinched his chin lovingly. "Cheer haran... cheer haran... Atleast you had pants under the sari, Nandkisore! I don't think Draupadi had that convenience!"
"And nobody has taken your kheer away!", Akash laughed. "It is on the table!"
"I don't care how poor a man is; if he has family, he's rich" ~ Dan Wilcox and Thad Mumford, "Identity Crisis," M*A*S*H
"Our dance was good, wasn't it, Amma?", NK asked, sure of his mother-in-law's support 24x7,all 365 days.
"Haan, it was very nice.", Kamla caressed his cheek.
"Then Thalli bajao, thalli bajao!", NK demanded, hugging Aarti.
Aarti bit her lip, eagerly anticipating Akash Bhai's reaction. He did not disappoint her.
Akash hit his head with his hand. "Hai Re Nandkisore!", he swore.
All burst out laughing.
"Laughter is wine for the soul - laughter soft, or loud and deep, tinged through with seriousness - the hilarious declaration made by man that life is worth living" ~ Sen O'Casey
Later that day, when Arnav managed to steal a moment with his wife, she glared at him.
Arnav raised his eyebrow and opened his innocent eyes wide.
"Jo dil ho pyar karne ka
To sau nakhre dikhati hai...?", Khushi quoted him.
Arnav cleared his throat, biting back his smile.
"A smile is the best way to get away with trouble even if it's a fake one" ~ Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto
"You want to be free of your wife?", Khushi asked in mock anger. "You should have said, Arnavji. I would have left you long back and gone to live with my Baba and my children."
"Khushi...", he ran a finger down her rosy cheek. She knocked his hand off.
"Mujhe Meri Biwi Se Bachao?", Khushi asked, frowning.
"Life is a mirror: if you frown at it, it frowns back; if you smile, it returns the greeting"
~ William Makepeace Thackeray
"Khushi..." Arnav put his arms around her waist, and pulled her close.
She tried to wriggle away from him, but his hold was firm though gentle.
"The strength of a man isn't seen in the power of his arms. It's seen in the love with which he embraces you" ~ Steve Maraboli
Khushi pouted. Arnav leaned forward to tackle the complaining lips, when he halted in shock.
Their baby had just kicked him.
"You know what the great thing about babies is? They are like little bundles of hope. Like the future in a basket"
~ Lish McBride, Hold Me Closer, Necromancer
Arnav looked at Khushi's tummy with astonished, moist eyes. "Khushi... Khushi... I felt... our baby... our baby just kicked me..."
Khushi nodded, her eyes filling with happy tears.
Pregnancy is getting company inside one's skin. ~ Maggie Scarf
"Khushi... this is normal? Yes, yes, this is normal... The site said it happens when you are five-and-a-half months pregnant..." His hands covered her tummy, trying to fel their baby. It kicked against his hand again. He swallowed.
"Nervous people tend to overreact"
~ Toba Beta, Master of Stupidity
"But Khushi, you are only 5 months pregnant...", he panicked. "This is too early... Khushi, we need to go to a doctor. I will get the car!" Arnav turned away from her.
"Feel within, the pure and unconditional Love and embrace all" ~ Grigoris Deoudis
Khushi caught hold of his kurta-covered arm, and pulled him into her arms.
"Our baby just wanted to meet you...Tell you that she or he is in there... Don't worry..." Khushi caressed his lean cheek lovingly, kissing him, feeling the stubble prick her lips.
"Unnerved, the nerve, you're nervous, nervous that I'm right" ~ Sara Quin
"But... But, Khushi, our baby is kicking too early!"
Khushi huffed.
"Of course, our baby is kicking too early. It is your child, isn't it?", she asked.
"Tiger father begets tiger son" ~ Chinese Proverb
With the Haldi ceremony over, after washing it off all the members gathered in the hall. Both NK and Aarti were aglow with happiness thinking about their marriage rather than the haldi. While all were chatting, Anjali asked Aarti whether she ever thought that she would meet, fall in love and marry a person like NK. Aarti's laughing reply that she never thought so, elicited what kind of person had she imagined to marry? from Payal. Aarti with a smile answered, for her marriage was never on cards.
"I was steeped in denial, but my body knew"
~ Suzanne Finnamore, Split: A Memoir of Divorce
NK's heart gladdened to hear it. He was ecstatic. He felt proud that he could change her mind and was lucky that she was ready to spend their life ahead together.
Khushi asked Payal, with a naughty twinkle, what kind of husband she had dreamt about! Payal winked at her and with a radiant smile said she had dreamt of a hero, a hero like Salman Khan teasing Akash. Akash was stunned to hear it. Arnav and Mamaji, quickly caught on as to what was going on. Though Arnav hid a smile, Mamaji couldn't and guffawed. Mami who was listening cottoned on and effusively sympathized with her son saying when he doesn't even watch movies how will he live upto be any version of Salman Khan. On cue Payal started to belt out a song which told them what sort of husband/lover she had thought she would get and in comparison what sort of husband/lover she got. She started teasing Akash openly in front of all much to his discomfiture. It had the rest of the men laughing . Soon Khushi joined Payal and continued the song with her expectations and what she got! Slowly Mami, Rani, Anjali too pitched in putting forth their dreams and the realities in jest. Khushi started to list out that her husband's favorite seems to be the laptop and she came poor second had everyone in laughter and received a promise of retribution from her husband. The ladies all agreed that, what they dreamt, was a spouse who was like a close friend too which was very far from reality.
Listening to this Akash was all hackled up. He said it was an injustice that was agreed by all. And NK said in retaliation to do anything but fast earning a laugh from the rest. At the suggestion of Anand, NK slipped upstairs came down dressed up in a saree belonging to Khushi, adorned with Mamiji's jewels and sporting Payal's big handbag.
"First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination" ~ Napoleon Hill
His walking gait had the ladies in fits of laughter and
Buaji exclaimed, "Hai Re Nandkisore!" and hit her head with her hand.
NK had covered his head with the pallu and was walking exaggeratedly, swaying his hips evoking mirth among his audience. Once he reached the menfolk he took out the rolling pin from the handbag started to brandish it like a sword.
On cue Akash started the song of seeking help from others and Divine to be saved from the wrath of his wife who was going to use rolling pin to hit him. The song begun by Akash was joined in by Anand and soon had rest of the menfolk joining them listing out the behavior of their spouses and seeking intervention to be saved from their wrath.
NK who was wearing the saree found it extremely difficult to manage and wondered how the ladies managed to get things done wearing a saree.
When Arnav said that whenever he felt like loving his wife he had to tackle her many reasons for unwillingness had Khushi imitating him and earning applause from Mami and Buaji.
Khushi raised her eyebrow, imitating him perfectly. "Really?", she drawled.
When each husband started listing out various habits of their spouses, retribution later was the response. When the song ended the ladies not to be outdone gave a fitting repartee, in the form of the last stanza of that song. Khushi and Payal started to pull the saree and stripping NK of it, twirling him around earning applause from all. Their act had all in stitches. NK complained that he has been subjected to become Draupadi of Mahabharat where she had to bear the humiliation of the attempt of disrobing in the court of the King. NK's use kheer haran in place of cheer haran earned laughing response.
Buaji pinched his chin lovingly. "Cheer haran... cheer haran... Atleast you had pants under the sari, Nandkisore! I don't think Draupadi had that convenience!"
"And nobody has taken your kheer away!", Akash laughed. "It is on the table!"
When NK asked Kamala for her opinion on their dance, he was sure to get a favorable reply as he was her Sunshine boy. Hearing her affirmation,
"Then Thalli bajao, thalli bajao!", NK demanded, hugging Aarti.
Aarti by now used to the family and well versed with their response was expecting Akash to intervene and correct, like the rest. Akash lived upto the expectation and took them by surprise by imitating Buaji as though NK was a lost cause.
Akash hit his head with his hand. "Hai Re Nandkisore!", he swore.
His action had all burst out with laughter. The entire time spent together was filled with poetic, lyrical rendition of humorous songs sending all into an ecstatic state.
Later when they were alone Arnav found his wife glaring at him. Raising his eyebrow and feigning innocence he silently questioned his wife the reason. When she quoted his song,
"Jo dil ho pyar karne ka
To sau nakhre dikhati hai..?"
as her grouse, Arnav had to bite back a smile.
She asked him in mock anger, whether he wanted to be free of her. If so, all he had to do was tell her and she would have gone back to Omkar. She wouldn't let him talk or give any justification.
To cajole his angry tigress he caught hold of her firmly, hugging her with his hands gently resting on her waist. When he was about to kiss he felt a jolt. He had the first feel of his child kicking. He was moved to tears. He looked at Khushi who also had tears filled in her eyes. He was stunned and his happiness was beyond his capacity to express. He was filled with gratitude for having showered with this wonderful blessing.
"Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul" ~ Henry Ward Beecher
He asked her whether it was normal. As per the information he had dug out from the net it was at five and a half months the movement of the child could be felt. The recall of this information triggered the panic button and he was all set to take her to the doctor. Khushi calmed him saying it was normal. Hugging and caressing his cheeks she told him,
"Our baby just wanted to meet you... Tell you that she or he is in there... Don't worry..."
When he still insisted that it was too early she countered,
"Of course, our baby is kicking too early. It is your child, isn't it?"
After all a tiger cub would surely follow the path of the tiger. When he, who wanted to get things done yesterday itself that was thought about only today, was the father, wouldn't his child possess his traits? Khushi who is proud of her man implied that it was normal for the child to have an early kick start with Arnav being the father!
"I know what it is to live entirely for and with what I love best on earth. I hold myself supremely blest - blest beyond what language can express; because I am my husband's life as fully as he is mine"
~ Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre
