PART 19:

The entire 3 hours Nupur did not realize what she was writing. She was only thinking about Mayank. Every now and then her eyes went on the door hoping that mayank will turn up. But he didn't come. 1000 questions ran in her mind. Where was he? Why he didn't come? Is he fine? What is wrong with him?

At the end of 3 hours she submitted her paper and straight ran to samrat's classroom. He was coming out with Gunjan when nupur came there running breathlessly.

G: dii...kya hua...aap aise bhaag kyu rahi ho?

N: samrat...mayank kaha hai??

S: mayank??

N: haa mayank...woh aaj exam dene kyu nahi aaya??? Kaha hai woh??

S: kya farak padta hai nupur??? Tumne hi toh usse apni dosti todi...ab tumhe kya farak padta hai ki woh exam de ya na de...

N: please samrat...tum jaante ho maine aisa kyu kiya...meri majboori samjho...

S: nahi samajh sakta main nupur...i am sorry...par main kuch nahi samajh sakta...tum kissi ko apna sabse acha dost maanti ho aur fir tum kissi ki bakwas sunke apni dosti tod deti ho...aur aaj uske liye itna concern dikha rahi ho...

N: kyunki mujhe fikar hai mayank ki...please samrat...

S: agar fikar hoti toh tum usse aise nahi chod deti nupur...ab tumhe khud pata lagana hoga mayank kaha hai...

Samrat started walking ahead. Nupur followed him.

N(begging): please samrat...please mujhe batao...mayank kaha hai???

G: samrat please dii ko bata do...

S: i am sorry but main tumhari koi help nahi kar sakta nupur...maine mayank ko promise kiya hai ki main kissi ko kuch nahi bataoga...specially tumhe...meri baat maano toh exams khatam hone ka wait karo...

G: but samrat...dii bahut pareshan rahegi...

S: gunjan...tum jaanti ho main apna promise nahi todta...mayank ne mujhse khaas kaha hai ki nupur ko kuch pata nahi chalna chahiye...

N: koi baat nahi samrat...tum mat batao...par main pata lagaa ke rahugi...

Nupur went to mayank's house. Some servant opened the door.

N: mayank ghar pe hai??

Servant: jee woh toh do dino se ghar nahi aaye...

N: kya??? Ghar nahi aaye matlab?

Servant: jee do din se woh kahi gaye hai...abhi tak wapas nahi aaye...kaha gaye hai pata nahi...

N: shilpa aunty hai ghar pe?

Servant: jee nahi...woh bhi do din se ghar nahi aayi hai...

N: kya aapko koi bhi idea hai woh kaha gaye hai?

Servant: jee nahi...yeh toh sirf samrat baba ko pata hai...aap unse pooch lijiye...

N: theek hai...dhanyawaad...

She decided to go to mayank's hospital Sanjeevani. Maybe she could know from there where mayank or shilpa aunty is. She went and asked the receptionist.

N: jee kya aap jaante hai Mr. Mayank Sharma ka case kaunse doctor dekh rahe the...

R: i am sorry madam hum patient ki information disclose nahi kar sakte...

N: jee mere liye jaan na bahut zaroori hai...please help me...

R: i am sorry ma'am...but hum kuch nahi bol sakte...

N: atleast itna toh bata sakte hai aap ki Dr. Shilpa Sharma kaha milegi????

R: Dr. Shilpa Sharma ek hafte ke liye leave pe hai...woh do din se nahi aayi hai...

N: aap jaanti hai woh kaha milegi??

R: nahi madam ne kuch bataya nahi hai...sirf itna pata hai woh ek hafte ke leave pe hai...

N: theek hai...thank you

Dejected nupur came back home.

G: dii aapko kuch pata chala??

N: nahi nupur...kuch samajh nahi raha...aunty ne hospital se bhi leave li hai...woh ghar pe bhi nahi hai...pata nahi mayank kaha hai...kya hua hai usse...

G: dii fikar mat karo...woh theek hoga warna samrat zaroor bataa ta...

N: mujhe bahut darr lag raha hai...uski tabiyat waise bhi kharab thi...upar se maine uska itna dil dukhaya...mujhe bahut bura lag raha hai...mujhe uske saath aisa nahi karna chahiye tha...mujhe apna dost wapas chahiye gunjan...mujhe apna dost wapas chahiye...

She sat down crying. Just than the door bell rang. Gunjan opened the door and found a parcel for nupur.

G: dii...yeh aapke liye aaya hai...

Wiping her tears nupur opened the parcel. The parcel contained that small Mickey with which she and mayank used to play in his house.

N: yeh toh mayank ka hai gunjan...

She saw a letter attached with the Mickey. She opened it. She could easily recognize mayank's perfect handwriting.

'Main kuch dino ke liye yaha se jaa raha hu. Mickey ko akela nahi chodna chahta tha. Mickey bhi apne dost ko bahut miss kar raha tha. Main toh apna dost kho chuka hu par main nahi chahta yeh Mickey apna dost khoye. Main nahi chahta ki Mickey ko bhi wahi dard se guzarna pade jisse main guzra hu. Humari dosti toh toot gayi par umeed hai ki kamse kam tum iss Mickey ka khyaal rakhogi. Main kaha hu uski fikar mat karna kyunki ab tum yeh haq kho chuki ho. Apni padhayi pe dhyaan dena. All the best.'

Nupur was in tears after reading the letter. She hugged the mickey tightly.

N(to herself): main tumhari fikar karugi mayank...yeh haq tum mujhse nahi cheen sakte...main tumhara intzaar karugi...mujhe apne sabse ache dost ka intzaar rahega.

The next few days passed by. Nupur was getting restless day by day. There was still no sign of mayank. She was angry with samrat as well. She believed he could atleast tell her where mayank is but he was not. Only she knew how difficult was it for her to study and give these exams. Her thoughts would always wander away thinking about mayank and where would he be. Why did he disappear suddenly? She would keep the mickey close to her. Whenever she looked at the mickey she thought mayank is watching her. Mayank is telling her to concentrate on studies. Mayank is there with her...everytime. She would even talk to the mickey like she did with Mayank. She would start calling him sadu akdu. Gunjan was surprised with the way nupur acted with mickey. Only nupur knew how restless she was. She needed her best friend back in her life.

Finally arrived the last day of exams. Nupur still had no sign of Mayank. After this exam they had 2 weeks holiday for diwali vacation. Yes diwali was coming. Everyone eagerly waited for these exams to get over. Nupur was so angry with samrat that she avoided talking to him. Only she knew how she was waiting to meet mayank. Get him back in her life.

She was passing by the corridor when she heard samrat talking on phone.

S: aunty ab kaisa hai mayank??? WHAT???? I will come as soon as possible aunty...aap fikar mat kijiye...okk...bye...

Nupur panicked hearing this. She followed samrat and found herself entering Sanjeevani hospital. She was confused why sam came here. She could not control any longer and stood in front of samrat with questioning eyes.

N: kya hua hai mayank ko??? Please mujhe batao samrat...

S: nupur...mayank ki tabiyat bahut kharab ho rahi thi...usne bahut zyaada stress liya tha...tum dono ke beech jo issues hue uske wajah se woh itna stressed tha ki uski tabiyat bahut kharab ho gayi...ek toh tb upar se stress...he fainted the night before exam...uski haalat bilkul theek nahi thi...isliye usko hospital mein admit karna padaa...isiliye he didn't come to give exam...aur abhi aunty ne phone pe bola ki he was vomitting...

N(crying): toh tumne mujhe pehle kyu nahi bataya????kyu chupayaa mujhse??

S: because mayank ne mujhse promise liya tha nupur...woh nahi chahta tha kissi ko bhi pata chale ki he is hospitalized specially tumhe...woh nahi chahta tha tumhari exam pe koi asar pade...

N: main yaha sanjeevani mein aayi thi par mujhe bola ki mayank yaha nahi hai...

S: tumhe kya lagta hai mayank ko nahi pata tha ki tum yaha check karne aaogi? Usne pehle se hi iss baat ka dhyaan rakha tha ki tumhe kuch pata na chale...

They rushed to a room. Shilpa was sitting. Mayank was sleeping. She stood up as soon as she saw nupur. Nupur hugged her tightly and cried.

N: aunty aap ne mujhe kyu nahi bataya ki mayank ki tabiyat itni kharab hai?

Sh: i am sorry beta...mayank nahi chahta tha ki tumhe kuch bhi pata chale...usne mujhe aur samrat se promise karwaya tha ki hum tumhe kuch na bataye...

N: mayank ki haalat ab kaisi hai?

Sh: woh toh bilkul theek hai beta...infact usse kal discharge mil raha hai...

N: toh fir yeh samrat phone pe kya bol raha tha?? Mayank ki tabiyat bahut kharab hai..

Samrat gave a sly smile.

Sh: samrat tumne jhooth bola???

S: toh aur kya karta main...nupur kuch dino se mujhse baat nahi kar rahi thi...tension mein mar rahi thi...mayank ne promise liya tha ki main usko kuch na batao...ab main kissi ko bhi naraz nahi karna chahta tha...isiliye nupur ke saamne phone pe natak kiya jisse usse pata chal jaaye ki mayank hospitalized hai...aur mayank ko diya hua promise bhi na tute...

Nupur gave him a slap on shoulder.

N: by god samrat...tumne toh meri jaan hi nikal di...tumhe pata hai main kitna darr gayi thi??

Shilpa held his ears.

Sh: bahut badmaash ladke ho gaye ho tum...(whispering in his ear 'but thanks ki nupur ko yaha le aaye')

Saying this shilpa winked at sam. Sam smiled back.

Sam: aunty aapko diwali ke liye shopping karni thi na?

Shilpa: ohh haa...acha yaad dilaya tumne...poora time mayank ke saath yaha thi...ab kuch dino mein diwali hai...kitni saari tayyari karni hai...par fir mayank ke paas kaun rahega...

N: aunty main hoon na...main rukti hu mayank ke paas...aap jaao aur tayyari kar lo...

Shilpa: nahi beta...tum kaise...tumhari toh abhi exams khatam hui hai...tumhe jaake enjoy karna chahiye...

N: nahi aunty...koi baat nahi...aap fikar mat kare...main rukti hu mayank ke paas...aap shopping karke aana...

Shilpa: aww so sweet beta...are you sure tum mayu ko handle kar logi??

N: uffo aunty...mayank ko mere ilawa koi handle kar sakta hai kya...uske gusse ke saamne pahaad banke mazboot rehna seekh gayi hu main...datt ke muqabla karugi mayank ka...aap fikar mat karo...

Shilpa: theek hai beta...koi bhi cheez ki zaroorat ho toh call me...

Shilpa winked sam and both of them left mayur alone.

Nupur sat near mayank's bed. He looked so calm while sleeping. She held his hand to check his body temperature. He instantly pulled her hand more close to his heart. A small smile played on his lips as he tightened his hold over nupur's hand. Nupur was caught off guard by his sudden gesture. She tried letting her hand free but no use. His grip was too tight. She sat there looking at him. She realized how much she missed her best friend. She cursed herself for fighting with him. The exams sleepless nights were taking a toll on her. Slowly, She lay her head near his head and closed her eyes. She did not realize that she slept. Few minutes later mayu felt her presence there. He opened her eyes lightly to see her sleeping next to him. He smiled in sleep and again closed his eyes. He thought it was his dream. Few minutes later he again opened his eyes and found her sleeping there. He again smiled and touched her face. Then he realized it was no dream. Nupur was there for real. He screamed in terror. AAAHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Nupur woke up with a jerk and screamed too.

N: kya hua???? Kyu chilla rahe ho????

M: tum??? Tum???? Tum sach mein yaha ho?????

N: Nahi mera bhooth hai...aatma banke aayi hu tumhe darane...ofcourse main hoon...

M: tum yaha kyu aayi ho????

N: arrey...meri marzi...hospital walk karne ka mann kar raha tha toh socha yaha walk le leti hu...fir chalte chalte thak gayi toh tumhare paas soo gayi...

M(sarcastically): haha very funny nupur...

Than the truth dawned on him as he recalled their fight; All the issues between them in past few days. How nupur broke their freindship, their fight. Blood boiled in his viens and rushed to his eyes. Nupur looked at the sudden change in his face. She realized he recalled everything. She knew she was going to be a dead meat in sometime.
