thank you rulama for the pm... you're a godsend! nice of you to post smita's work for her avid readers... have been missing this ff for the past week or more!
lovely updates 77 to 82! thank god the desperate search culminated in some happy news! must commend aarti's employees on their loyalty despite the whole raizada family dropping in on them! speaks a lot about aarti as a person and an employer!
love, in all its forms, just permeates this ff... the gentleness of the nk-aarti love story is truly moving... aarti's letters were very touching... poor girl had to face the fear of not only her mother's death but also her own, all alone... it would have been so much easier if she had had the love and support of nk and the raizadas... but lovely to see her accept her love and not want to wait for 3 months to become one with nk... some of her fears seem to have been allayed! this wedding, like all the other ones, is a true family affair! this family truly believes in sharing their joys and sorrows... the idea of the mishra office as the venue for their wedding is wonderful because the people working there are her family, and not employees!
Smita, loved all the funny moments, especially the humorous images created by your expressions: Tara greeting the family of hugers; Arnav's thought that NK can make a hen look like an elephant; Maami being her incorrigible self and welcoming her maadern daughter-in-law; and of course buaji crushing the living daylights out of aarti every chance she gets!
the arnav-khushi private moments are a lesson in love... desire just flows between these two! loved seeing arnav so craftily and seductively make khushi admit that she's as besharam as her hubby dearest... a scene to die for!
thank you, Smita and rulama, for making my day with these updates!

Here is my interpretation to Part 82.

I see various persons whom we come across responding in a particular way. Call it immediate response, gut reaction, knee-jerk, reflex, spontaneous reaction or unthinking response. They all amount to PAVLOVIAN.

PAVLOVIAN RESPONSE it is.

When Arnav, Akash, and NK joined the rest, they greeted Amma with affection. NK hugged her kissing her cheeks. Kamala who had a special place for him in her heart responded to his gesture caressing his cheeks with a smile playing on her lips!

"Do you like NK?", Arnav asked Kamla.

She looked at him, surprised. She said, "Yes."

"Good. So you won't mind him being your son-in-law?", Arnav asked with a slight smile.

This smiling querry of Arnav was greeted by silence in the room followed by a din. When the rest were rejoicing, Kamala Mishra looked on in wonder!

"Aarti Bitiyaa agreed to marry NK Bitwaa?", Nani asked.

Arnav nodded. "Do you mind?", he asked Amma.

Kamla stared at him for a moment. "Aarti agreed. AARTI agreed?", she asked, tears of joy in her eyes.

"Because if you've found meaning in your life, you don't want to go back. You want to go forward. ~ Morrie Schwartz;"

~ Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie

Arnav smiled. "Yes. She said she wants one month's time to settle things."

A smile trembled on Kamla Mishra's lips.

"She agreed!", Amma still could not get over the fact.

Seeing her disbelief, NK caught hold of her hand and assured her.

"I will look after her, Amma." He was dead serious.

Kamla nodded, smiling at him.

"And I will look after you."

"I know.", she said, smiling.

"And he knew that at that moment, they understood each other perfectly, and when he told her what he was going to do now, she would not say 'don't do it', but she would accept his decision because she would not have expected anything less of him"

~ J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Everyone was extremely happy. The ladies showed it with their hugs to both NK and Kamala.

"Phinally (finally) I have my maadern (modern) daughter-in-law who ijj as kool as her Maasi!", said Mami. "Your short hair and my pink gaagles (goggles)! Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi!"

This brought out a smile from Aarti.

"Didn't I tell you that a rajkumar will come to marry you?", Buaji asked Aarti, kissing her forehead.

"Yes. You did, Buaji.", Aarti admitted, smiling.

Later, Aarti managed to get to her mother's bedroom. They spoke for long about their past and how their life had changed for the better.

"Sharing tales of those we've lost is how we keep from really losing them"

~ Mitch Albom, For One More Day

Amma shed tears for Shikha.

"Cry. Forgive. Learn. Move on. Let your tears water the seeds of your future happiness"

~ Steve Maraboli

She took comfort in the fact that finally Aarti was going to have a normal life...after a horrendously abnormal childhood and youth.

"Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny" ~ Steve Maraboli

Letting the past go and looking ahead at the future, Kamala Mishra, breathed a sigh of relief!

"After all, tomorrow is another day!"

~ Margaret Mitchell, Gone with the Wind

Aarti made the visitor's go on sight seeing trips in Mumbai everyday, arguing that since both she and her mother would be just sleeping and resting, they should not waste the chance to enjoy the sights and sounds of Mumbai.

Khushi and Arnav stayed back as Khushi, was not very interested in sightseeing and didn't want to travel in her present condition, and Arnav, as Khushi was staying back and also had a pile of work waiting for him. NK who wanted to stay back was roped in to go along, to carry Mami's huge pile of shopping bags despite his protests.

Evenings were spent in Amma's room regaling all the day's events with the dinner being served there itself.

"I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to family life" ~ Barbara Bush

They, including Aarti and Gopi Kakka, had dinner together in Amma's room, eating out of plates held in their hands. They told tall tales, played cards, poked fun at each other, and laughed for hours...

"This is love, I think. A place where people who have been alone may lock together like hawks and spin in the air, dizzy with surprise at the connection. A place you go willingly, and with wonder" ~ Jodi Picoult, Keeping Faith

For Raizada's a month's wait for the wedding was too long, given their record of conducting marriages at super fast pace. For NK, it was going to be an extra long month of wait...

Anjali asked Aarti, "Where would you like to conduct the wedding, Aartiji?"

Aarti looked at her mother.

"Omkar is, of course, available.", smiled Baba.

"RM is available.", Nani said.

"Our house in Laxmi Nagar can be used, Nandkisore, if it is a small wedding.", Buaji pinched Aarti's chin.

"If you don't like any of these options, we can hire a hall or a ground.", Arnav suggested.

"Or have it in a temple.", suggested Akash.

"Or have it at your haujjj (house).", said Mamiji. "It ijj bigger than two cricket grounds put together!"

Everyone offered their place as venue and also a few suggestions. But Aarti had her own thoughts about it!

"Can we have it at our office?", asked Aarti softly. Amma smiled sadly.

All looked at her, astonished.

"It is just that... I..I have spent most of my life there. So...", Aarti shrugged, looking uncomfortable.

Nani was the first to assent followed by Arnav, Akash and NK.

"It is a beautiful office, Nandkisore.", said Buaji, smiling.

"There is lots of space.", added Payal, smiling.

Khushi nodded, hugging Aarti. "And all your friends are there."

"Transportation bill (will) be taken care of, Hello Hi Bye Bye!", said Mami.

"As you wish, Aarti Bitiyaa.", said Mamaji.

When all agreed Aarti continued,

"We will be closed on the day of the wedding anyway. And we have a huge auditorium capable of holding 3,000 guests. We often rent it out..."

All nodded.

"We have our own canteen/ food division. They are used to catering for huge on and off-site functions, both private and corporate."

"Excellent.", said Arnav.

Her decision of Venue earned approval from all.

"And I think your Nitin will enjoy decorating the whole place.", laughed NK. "He is such a wall, a polite wall...", he complimented the middle aged man. "He wouldn't let out any information about you."

Khushi nodded, smiling. "The employees love you a lot."

"All our knowledge has its origin in our perceptions" ~ Leonardo da Vinci.

Aarti smiled at them.

"They form the backbone of Mishra's. We have been together for a long time. I would like all of them to bring their families for the wedding and enjoy it...It will be strange...", she smiled, shrugging. "Normally, we are the ones who help others get married, and now..."

All smiled.

"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail"

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Now it is your turn to be happy.", said Nani, hugging her carefully.

Buaji kissed her forehead.

"Ad astra per aspera.

(To the stars through difficulties.)" ~ Seneca

In the entire update response by people stood out!

It began with the knee jerk response of Kamala Mishra on hearing about her daughter agreeing to marry NK from Arnav Singh Raizada. It was one of disbelief! From the rest one of utmost joy!

From Mamiji finally getting a modern daughter-in-law, to her heartfelt satisfaction!

From Buaji that she would get her own Rajkumar of fulfilling her blessings!

The response Aarti got for suggesting sight-seeing trips was also a ready response after the first day. When they were making the choice of venue for the wedding each one offered their place spontaneously, unthinkingly. This response reflected the love they had for the Mishras' and also their selfless character of being of help to others at the drop of the hat! The response to the venue of the wedding suggested by Aarti was an immediate affirmative.

It showed how they wanted her to have whatever she wanted. After all it was her wedding. It was her day. And it was her will that prevailed!

All these confirm the choice of the theme as PAVLOVIAN RESPONSE

"A happy family is but an earlier heaven"

~ John Bowring

That's it from me. Hope you like it!

I am amazed at how the following quote fits on Khushi, Arnav and Aarti!

"Cry. Forgive. Learn. Move on. Let your tears water the seeds of your future happiness"

~ Steve Maraboli

Beautiful interpretation. Acceptance is the word. A wonderful welcome of Aarti in the Raizada family. The way they all accepted her entire being and then followed the pavlovian response. She responded, they all responded.
Great quotes as usual. Keep 'em coming! 👏

The Raizadas have open hearts, capable of accepting new and unknown elements into their lives.

And it is this acceptance that Aarti badly needs. Cos she knows that she has been raised as a misfit in conservative & feminine society.

She is wiling to learn and adapt, and the Raizadas, buaji, Baba, Anand etc are willing to accept her even if she does not learn or adapt. That is the beauty of their relationship.

That's it from me. Hope you like it!
