Chapter 24
Kria arrived outside Swayam's apartment. He had given her directions to it and had paid for a nice meal for both of them. She had left a little bit earlier to go pick it up. When she rang the bell no one answered and she tried again, still nothing. She began pacing, worry evident in her face, she picked up her cell phone and called Sharon.
"Where are you? Are you OK?" she asked immediately.
"What do you mean where am I? I am at Swayam's I told you. And I feel much better now."
"Then why aren't you opening the door to the apartment?"
"Oh! It's you? Why didn't you call me that you were stopping by? Wait a minute, I am coming." As soon as she opened the door, Kria entered like a tornado.
"Why didn't you open the door before? You scared me to death. I thought that something had happened to you."
"Hey! stop worrying so much I am fine. And of course, I am not opening the door. This is not my place. What if it was someone wanting Swayam? What was I supposed to say about who I was? His maid!"
"His fiance, of course! You are engaged to the man, why are you hiding it? I would have gone to the highest building to shout it out so that everybody could hear me."
"Come on! You know I don't like to flaunt my relationship with Swayam."
"There is a difference between flaunting a relationship and hiding one. And honey you are hiding it. I know, Swayam is trying to be patient with your obsession of people not knowing about you, because of your hormonal changes right now, but this is getting too much. I mean you are already three months pregnant and soon it will start to show. You have a guy that is so proud of that baby and you are not letting him express it. If I were you, I would not push that limit too far. He might think that you don't want this baby." Kria said, while putting carton boxes of food on the breakfast counter. She started searching for forks. Finally, she found it in a drawer. Their feast was, now, ready and Kria started eating. Sharon, on the other hand, had lost her appetite.
"Oh my god, has he said something like that to you. I never meant it like that. I just don't want people thinking that I trapped him with the baby to keep him in a loveless relationship. Of course, I want this baby and of course, I love him."
"Well, I think it is time you start showing it to him. He has not said anything to me, but men don't like to have their ego's bruised, and sweety you are totally demolishing his." "I never thought he would mind."
"If he is not, he will start minding soon. As for the people thinking that you trapped him, if you are referring to the guys at the office, I can assure you, they will not think such a thing. Hey, we know no one can deceive the boss. He has not reached to the position he has in the world market by being fooled be people. We know nothing gets by him unnoticed. Sometimes, I swear I think he can read my mind. Plus, you hiding it gives the impression that you are feeling guilty and ashamed and both of those look bad really bad. If you ask me the best thing you could do is come clean with everyone."
"You make it seem so easy."
"It is easy and you should do it as soon as possible. I mean already the girls are wondering why you are not feeling well early in the morning each day. I try to cover things up, but I am secretary, not a fireman putting out fires here and there." Sharon dropped her head to her hands.
"I don't even know how to do it. What do I stand up one morning and say hey everyone I am pregnant with Swayam's baby and by the way we are engaged."
"Then don't do it if you feel uncomfortable. Let Swayam do it. I am certain he will find a very subtle way to announce it and he will be too glad to do it. You should hear how he brags about his fairies each morning." Kria chuckled and Sharon could not help but giggle.
"Ya! he, sure, is enchanted by his little fairy. And he has not seen her yet. I swear she is going to be the most spoiled kid ever with him as a father". Both laughed at that.
"Yes but you are not eating. I am eating all the food here, it is too delicious, and I don't have the excuse of eating for two. EAT!!!" Sharon looked sheepishly at her untouched meal and grabbed her fork. She was feeling better now and Kria was right, she would call Swayam later and tell him to discreetly spill that she was pregnant with his baby. Their conversation got a lot lighter after that. They talked about Kria's relationship. She complained about how Rey avoided staying for the night at her place because he wanted to have "all his things" in the morning when he woke up.
"Honey! I don't know, this is still the beginning of the relationship, maybe you should give it a little bit more time." Sharon told her.
"Swayam did not need any more time. I mean we started going out the same time you did and you are already engaged."
"I know, but you have to admit that ours hasn't been exactly the typical relationship. I still can't get used to the speed things are going on between us. And I am not saying that you should tolerate any crap he dishes out. Just have patience for a little while more, tell him what you would like your relationship to be like, and if he decides to ignore your wishes, then you will be excuse to give him the boot."
"You are right. I know you are. It is just that I see how Swayam reacts and talks about you every day, and by comparison Rey is lacking by far." Sharon smiled at her words. She felt very fortunate for having such an adoring man in her life.
"You know sweety! I had to kiss some pretty big bad ugly frogs to find my prince charming."
"Ha, finally you admit it that he is your prince charming. So, stop having doubts about him and your relationship and start telling the whole world about it."
"I thought we were talking about you."
"Ya well, I am just making sure once more you know how fortunate you are."
"OK lunch break is over. Time to get back to work for you, that is."
"Mmm lady boss already?"
"My god! you are insufferable. I will tell everyone, OK? Are you satisfied?"
"Very!" Kria beamed.
"I am going now, BUT if you don't keep your promise, I will be back."
"That sounds more ominous than terminator" Sharon joked about it.
"Thank you for coming. It was nice having company for lunch."
"Any time, sweety. See you on Monday."
"Bye bye."
When Kria left the apartment, Sharon threw away the cartons empty of food, and washed the dishes. During that time, she wondered how she could let all know that she was pregnant with Sharon's baby without making any fuss about it. Since, she couldn't come up with any ideas she picked the easy way out of it. She would ask Swayam's help. He was the grand manipulator of this couple and her presence in his home with a ring to her finger was an testament to that. She grabbed her phone and dialed Swayam. He picked up on the first ring. "Is everything OK? I am grabbing my keys and I will be there in ten minutes." She heard him fumbling with what she guessed was his keys.
"No no no, Swayam I am fine, you don't have to worry. I did not call you because I have a problem. Please tell me I did not interrupt you from your meeting."
"No fairy! Don't worry about it, the appointment I had ended ten minutes ago, not that I would have minded if you had interrupted me. You come first. Always remember that." Sharon smiled at that.
"Kria came by and brought lunch. We ate together and we talked and she helped me come to a decision."
"About what?" Swayam pretended to be ignorant of the reason behind Kria's visit.
"I think it is time to tell people at the office about us. If you don't mind it I mean." Swayam jumped from his chair and started a silent victory dance around the office.
"Of course, I don't mind fairy. I was the one who wanted to tell the whole world weeks ago."
"OK, it is a deal then. When I came back on Monday we are going to find a subtle way of telling them."
"Don't you worry and don't you stress about, my sweet fairy. I have the perfect plan. We will talk when I get home OK?"
"Ya! I will cook some steaks I found in the fridge for dinner."
"You are supposed to be resting, little one."
"I am fine. I don't feel exhausted, there is no nausea too."
"OK! Just promise me, you are not going to overdo it."
"Swayam! I am not going out to chop some wood, start a fire and cook them on it. I am just throwing them in the oven." Swayam chuckled at that.
"OK I will see you later!"
"Bye honey" she said and hung up. She went straight to the kitchen to start preparing the dinner. A few hours later, she had everything ready. She had even made some salad for her, just to please Swayam. She really did not like the damn thing. She was arranging the table when he came home. He entered, left his briefcase to the floor and went straight to her like the magnet to iron. He hugged her and kissed her passionately. "I missed you, little fairy. These past hours away from you were real torture."
"I missed you too" She said honestly and got further in his embrace. "Everything ok at the office?" she asked him. "Yes, all went well. Oh yes not to forget the girls are throwing you a baby shower four months from today."
