CHAPTER THIRTY THREE
Maanvi yawned, rubbing her eyes and pushing herself to wake up. She stretched her arms, trying to get rid of the tiredness. Yawning away, she didn't feel like getting up. It was like her mind was awake, screaming to get out but her body was fast sleep. Nevertheless, she murmured a groan before pushing herself out of bed. Whilst making the bed, she peered over to the other side which seemed as if it had not been slept in.
She froze.
"Where is Virat?" She thought to herself. She bit her lip, looking at the room for the first time. The unlit candles on the edge of the room, piled near the window sills, that she was sure would create a silhouette. She stepped back, her bare feet touching the fallen petals on the soft carpet. She smiled, picking up a few pieces and intently inspected them.
She loved roses, and more so when they were just petals. There was a sort of meaning behind them, the symbolism of love and beauty. There was just one thing she disliked about them: the prickled thorn. She thought back at the time she had cut herself when she was with Virat and how he had cared for her. She couldn't help but smile at the faint memory: the way he always cared for her.
There was just something about him that enticed her. A strange feeling whenever it was just her and him, as if the world ceased to exist and it was only them.
She wishes.
Maanvi gently threw the petals onto the bed, as she straightened the duvet and adjusted the pillows. Once satisfied, she inwardly nodded at her attempt and stepped back.
From the corner of her eyes, she saw something move. Within a second she twisted her head back, noticing a wriggling figure that was lying upon the sofa. "Virat?" She thought as she quickly made her way.
He began to fidget, turning left and right, trying to get comfortable but failing. In his slumber, he had pulled the thin blanket that covered his face, over. Maanvi became concerned. She didn't like the way he was unable to sleep properly whilst she had spent the night in a deep sleep. She frowned wondering why he hadn't slept on the bed!
Why hadn't he slept in the bed?
Thoughts crept into her mind, infesting on her every worried conscious. Did she do something? She thought back to the previous night, not even remembering how she had even managed to make it up to the room. She remembered that the driver was taking them to the Hotel but didn't know when he –
She halted her thought track.
The car ride.
She had fallen asleep in the taxi! She must have: the long journey was taken a downer on her and she didn't realise when her own mind betrayed her. "Great," She thought clearly displeased. Virat turned around, holding tightly onto the blanket and trying to cover himself. She instantly went and helped him. It was like a sigh of relief as he finally found a comfortable spot. She looked at him in awe.
Even when he was sleeping: his face unwashed, his tousled hair pointing in every direction and dark stubble, there was still something attractive about him. For the first time, Maanvi looked at him properly. She had always known that he was good looking but didn't realise just how much he was until now. He had that typical boy-next-door aura but a brooding, mysterious persona. Virat Vadhera was the most handsome male that Maanvi had ever seen, that she could not deny.
But why didn't he sleep with her? She couldn't stop thinking about it. It wasn't like they had never slept in the same bed before. Even before marriage, he was with her. She blushed thinking about when he had entered her room, late at night just to talk to her. Sure they were neither friends nor even acquaintances at that time but even then they had slept in the same bed – though by accident. But now, they had a name to their relationship: of husband and wife. Surely he should have been there?
Maanvi hastily shook her head. What was she thinking? About her and Virat? Yes, they were husband and wife but only in the eyes of the law, reality was that they were not even that. No. Maanvi shook her head and turned around quickly. "What am I doing? Why should I become so upset about such small thing? No, Maanvi no. Forget about that, besides you are not Virat's wife in true sense. Why do you care?" She repeated her words over and over again, trying to convince herself.
"Maanvi?" A croaky voice came from behind the covers.
She turned around to see Virat just about to get up, "Hm?" She asked nervously. He yawned, stretching his aching body. He rubbed his shoulders intently, trying to get rid of the knot. Maanvi bit her lip, watching him guilty. "Does it hurt?" She itched to go near him and rub his shoulders.
He looked at her, staring into her face and cracked into a smile. "I'll be fine." He spoke a little too soon as well he tried getting up, he was rushed with pain. Maanvi hastily went towards him, before rubbing her fingers into his toned back. He closed his eyes, just feeling her fingers on him. He didn't even have the heart to stop her, her actions instantly relieving him. "Why do you care for me so much?" He thought to himself. "I know that you don't see me as your true husband but I still can't believe that you would do anything for me. After all, which girl would love me after knowing about what I had done? I loved another and had her child, would you still love me?" Virat stared into space, deep in thought. He hadn't even realised when Maanvi had stopped massaging him and was now looking at him, confused.
"Is everything alright?" She asked. "Are you feeling okay?" She instantly grabbed his forehead, applying the back of her hand to it and checking for a temperature. He seemed normal.
"I'm fine." He replied, not looking at her.
She frowned. "Did I do something?" Maanvi couldn't bear that he wasn't looking at her. "Are you sure?" She asked slowly.
He nodded. "Yeah, urm go and get changed. We should probably get down." He said, before walking towards the luggage that had appeared in their rooms that the tour guide had brought during the night. Maanvi nodded, quickly showering and getting ready.
"Sir, Madam? You both are here?" Siddarth, the tour guide exclaimed as he went up to receive them. "How was your sleep?"
"Good," Virat murmured, stretching a little. Maanvi instantly felt bad again but was stopped when Virat gave her a slight smile.
"And how did you like the room? We got it especially made for you both when we heard that Virat Sir has gotten married and is coming here for his Honeymoon! And anyway, my wife was the one that chose those rose petals, nice wasn't they?" He grinned in excitement. "You know what they say; the love between a husband and wife should always be seen." Maanvi blushed, somewhat amused by his bubbly personality. "So Sir, where would you like to go first? Sight seeing London or?"
Maanvi listened carefully, excited about seeing a new city for the first time. She had always dreamed of going abroad for a holiday, and was even glad that her dream was coming true.
"What are you think of?" Virat whispered into her ears, eager to know what was conspiring in her mind.
She smiled, shaking her head a little. "Actually, I was thinking about how London must be like."
"Cold." He laughed. "Extremely cold."
"That cold?" She pondered.
He nodded. "God yes, I remember back when I was studying here, at first I couldn't believe the change in climate between here and Chandrilasia. God knows how my friends put up with me." He laughed a little before his phone started to ring. "Hold on." He took his phone out of his pocket and walked towards a secure place leaving Maanvi behind with Siddarth.
"Madam, I have to agree you have a really nice husband." Maanvi smiled, not really sure what he meant. "I mean, with the way that he had carried you last night. Vaah! Everyone should have a husband like Virat Sir. I always knew that he wasn't a bad person, but what can you do, the media wale makes it out like that, hai na?"
"Virat took me up last night?" She hadn't remembered that. She couldn't believe that Virat had picked her up with his bare hands, without making a fuss. She smiled slowly, before glancing over to her right where Virat was talking on the phone.
"Yes, Maanvi Madam!" He replied. "Maybe Sir didn't tell you this but he didn't even say anything when everyone was looking at you both. But it's remarkable, the love you both share, I couldn't help but remember me and my wife."
Maanvi thought over everything that she had done with Virat so far. Those bittersweet memories. She stared deep in thought, as Siddarth went off on a job call.
"Hey Virat!" A voice called out as soon as Virat answered the phone. "Kaise hai tu?" Instantly Virat grinned, remembering the face to the voice.
"Dev?" He replied. He couldn't believe it that he was talking to the one friend that he had stayed in touch with over the years. Dev was a friend that he had met whilst studying and although he wasn't as close to him, they still shared some conversations here and then.
"Kya hua? Did you forget about me? Come on yaar! Lucky that Siddarth Chachu called me about you otherwise how else would I have known that Virat Vadhera was in London?" He laughed softly. When Virat had first come to London, he had stayed within this very same Hotel which is where he had first met Dev. After meeting Maya, he had then moved out and shared her apartment.
"I'm so sorry, I can't believe that I forgot to let you know. Actually everything happened so quickly that I…"
"Oh really? Keep on making excuses, I know what's the real story. You're busy with your wife right?"
Virat gulped. "Wife?"
"Oh come on, at least don't lie to me! Chachu told me about Maanvi as well. That's her name isn't it? Oops sorry, I mean Maanvi Bhabhi!" He grinned.
Virat laughed, somewhat blushing and somewhat shy. He turned around to notice Maanvi looking at him. Instantly, he forgot what he was doing until Dev's voice answered back. "Hello! What happened? Are you still there?" He asked.
Virat shook his head, getting rid of the thoughts and looking away. "Er, yeah…" He replied slowly.
"Dude, did you get distracted by your wife? I mean seriously! When I'm here as well? Shame on you, man!" Dev laughed. Virat rolled his eyes at his comment. "And anyway, when are you coming to see me?"
"What?"
"Come on, don't be silly! If you're in London you just have to meet us! You know, me, Inayah and the gang!" He replied. Before Virat met Maya, he used to hang out with Dev's friends, unfortunately he hadn't even seen them in a few years. He smiled, wondering that they still remembered him. "No ifs and buts, we want to meet Maanvi bhabhi today. The usual club, okay?"
Virat laughed. "Alright, I'll see you then."
"I better! Or else!" He threatened.
Virat rolled his eyes as he ended the call. He bit his lips, wondering how today will go. He hadn't met his first friends in years and although he was the one that ditched them, would they even forgive him?
"Is everything alright, Virat?" Maanvi asked, noticing that he was concerned. "Who was that?"
"My friend, Dev." He replied. "Actually, he wanted to meet me. Us." He quickly corrected. "But…"
"But?"
"I don't know. I haven't met any of them since…" He mustered his courage to say her name. "Since Maya." He frowned, not liking to put her name upon his lips. "She-She didn't approve of them, they weren't really into the whole party till you're drunk scene." He said honestly.
Maanvi smiled. "So that must mean that they're good people?"
He nodded.
"Then problem kya hai?"
"I'm just thinking, would they even forgive me for ditching them? For whatever I said to them, I don't think they even will – not wholeheartedly."
"But Virat. You're different now, you're a different person. And if they're as good as you say they are, then I'm sure that they will see through all this." She held his hand and smiled at him.
He smiled back. "How do you know what to even say?" He whispered. "You always make me feel better."
"I don't know…" She replied, walking off in thought.
He sighed, looking at his hand where she had just touched him. "How did I not know that I was in love with you? Bhai was right, you are one of a kind. You're just simply Maanvi. My Maanvi."
Author's Note: And another one! Hi Inayah.

CHAPTER THIRTY FOUR
The faint noise started to become louder and louder as the beats kicked in. Maanvi stuck by Virat's side, totally uncomfortable in the club. It wasn't that she wasn't used to the scene, it was the fact that it was an unknown place. As people glanced at her, her dressed in a simple purple suit, she held tightly onto Virat's arm as they walked.
"Are you okay?" He whispered to her. He didn't want her to feel uncomfortable, and would rather do what she wanted to do. He wanted her to feel better, not worried like this.
"I'm fine, Virat. I've never been in such place before so'"
"Hey, Virat!" Maanvi glanced over to where the voice came from. There was a group of people of their ages, sitting around laughing and chatting. A man walked towards Virat as Maanvi took her hand away. He hugged Virat tight, and patted him on the back. "Long time no see!"
She stood behind her husband, nervously. She never had so many friends. It was only her and Shiv. Sure, she talked to many of her school mates but they were never enough for her. She was happy with just Shiv, her best friend.
"I'm fine, you?" Virat replied but was silenced by a girl's excited arrival.
"Virat!" She screamed happily as she rushed over and gave the bewildered prince a hug. "How dare you forget me?!" She answered back with a slight anger. Virat looked at her confused and with apprehension. The girl stared at him before falling into a fit of giggles. "Nah, I'm just messing with you." She punched him tightly on his chest, pushing him slightly. Virat bumped into Maanvi who instantly looked away. The girl peered over to see the nervous Duchess. "So this is'Maanvi?" As she spoke, Maanvi looked at her, trying to keep a smile but failing. She turned her eyes away, looking around. The girl pushed Virat out of the way to take a good look at his bride. "Not bad." She smirked, pulling Virat back into her view. "I can't believe that you got married, not fair, at least you should have told us!"
"Actually, everything happened so quickly that-"
"Quickly?" She laughed. "What Virat? Was it a shot-gun wedding?" Virat looked at Maanvi, silently. "Anyway, doesn't matter." She looked over at Maanvi and gave her a genuine smile. "Hi, I'm Inayah." She placed her hand forward but received no reply. Maanvi, still nervous didn't know what to do. Inayah understood, taking her hand back. She glanced over at Virat who was staring at Maanvi, concerned. She smiled, seeing the love he had for her. They all had some ideas what happened between Maya and Virat, and though they didn't like Maya nor the influences she had, they couldn't do anything about it. One day, Virat left and they didn't exactly know why or what had happened. All they knew was that the Virat, Dev had first introduced to them was no longer the same Virat. Inayah nodded, silently approving Maanvi. Not only her, but everyone could see the changes in Virat.
Inayah gestured Dev to take Virat away. He subtly nodded, and walked towards Virat. "Hey, come on, let's so many things we have to talk about!" Virat tried to protest but Dev and a few other guys held onto him and pulled him away.
"You can be with your wife later, at least for now be with us." Dev spoke as soon as Virat was out of Maanvi's eyesight.
"But.." Virat tried to protest.
"Don't worry, she'll be fine with Inayah. And besides, you do want us to know her, right?" Dev asked peculiarly.
Virat nodded. "Of course, and'it's not that. I just don't think she's comfortable at the moment. Maybe if I was there with her."
"No!" Dev blurted out. He bit his lips shut before taking a deep breath. "I mean, don't worry about that, first let's talk about some things. I mean, come on yaar it's been years since we've last been together. You can spend the rest of your life and more with your wife." He joked.
It wasn't something that they wanted to do, they didn't want to annoy Virat nor make Maanvi feel uncomfortable but it was something they just had to do, for the sake of friendship. No one wanted Virat to be with a woman who would only hurt them so when they found out about Maanvi they had made a plan to separate the two and find out what was conspiring in Maanvi's mind. Was she really as innocent as she seemed to be? Of course, at first sight she seemed like the most perfect girl for him, but even after the whole Maya fiasco, they had to make sure. They wouldn't want their friend to become hurt again. One thing was noted, the happiness of Virat's face, the way he would not stop looking at Maanvi nor let her go. Perhaps, they all knew that Virat was in love with her, or rather he was fond on her but Maanvi? She was difficult to read. They would have to tackle her alone, only that way they can find out what Maanvi's real feelings towards Virat are.
"So'how did you meet her?" Dev asked as Virat started to look around for Maanvi.
"Who?" Virat replied, not really paying attention. Dev smiled at Virat's nervousness. "He's clearly gone for her." Dev thought. "Just hope that Maanvi is the best person for him."
"Dude, where is your focus? I'm talking about Maanvi. How did you meet her?"
Virat turned around and looked at Dev. He thought back at the time when he had first met Maanvi. Their argument, the way they both told each other that they didn't want to marry each other. How times had changed. Who knew that the two, who disliked each other, would end up marrying? His heart felt like it was doing star jumps, the more he thought about her. Dev noticed the smile playing on Virat's lips.
He laughed. "I told you to tell me about Maanvi, not to dream about her."
Virat blushed, a light red hue situating on his stubble-d cheeks. "I'er'"
"You love her that much, huh?" Dev said blatantly.
For the first time, Virat didn't disagree. He simply nodded; his heart feeling like it was beginning to explode. "I didn't know how much, I didn't even think I'd love her, not after'." He sighed. "Not after Maya." He closed his eyes, the first person he saw was Maanvi. If you look into someone's eyes, you'd look into their heart. It was true, because in his eyes, all anyone could see was his love for Maanvi. "You know, the more I think about it, the more I feel that I was never in love with Maya. She was just someone that I thought I had to look after. You know since whatever happened between us. I guess, I never really found a reason to leave her, until she left me." He scoffed a little. "I love Maanvi. I truly love Maanvi."
Dev smiled, he patted Virat's back. "I know you do. One look at you and anyone would know. But'" He hesitated. "Does she love you?"
Does she love you? Virat wondered over his words. Did she love him? Could she ever love him? He didn't know. Virat didn't reply, Dev nodded, feeling awkward for asking him that.
"She cares for me, God she changed me so much. Everything had happened because of her. I changed my life around when with Maya it was like I was killing myself. I married Maanvi because I had to. It was like a compromise. I just didn't know when I'd fall in love with her this much."
"Did you tell her?"
Virat shook his head. "No, I can't. I already took her freedom away, I already forcefully made her in my wife, I can't make her love me."
"What if she's already in love with you? But just doesn't know it? Or if she does know it, she's just scared to tell you?" Dev said. "What if this is all some silly game that life is playing and you're just going around in circles? What if she did love you? But you both didn't know because you wouldn't say? Life is short, Virat. Make the best of it."
Virat wondered about what he had said. Life is short. Make the best of it. His heart thumped with the thinking of spending his whole life with Maanvi by his side. Their would be no more tears, just Virat and Maanvi together. Forever.
Maanvi frowned as Virat was taken away from her. She wanted to scream out, to tell him to come back but she didn't know what to say. She looked up at Inayah who was telling her to sit down. Without any other choice, Maanvi nervously sat down, still watching Virat walking away.
"So, what are your intentions with Virat?" Inayah begun, looking at her nails before glancing at Maanvi.
"Huh?"
"What are you intentions with Virat? As in good or bad?" She asked again.
Maanvi didn't know what to say, so she simply sat there confused. "You mean that you think I'd do anything bad to him?" She said softly, somewhat bewildered at Inayah's remarks.
Inayah shrugged, looking back at her nails again. "I don't know, it's not the first time that happened. You probably have heard about Maya." Maanvi looked at her in shock. "Oh, probably not." Inayah murmured.
"They think that I'd do something to Virat? And especially that too after Maya? How can they compare me to her?" Maanvi thought angrily.
"I know about her." She spat out. "Virat told me. And believe me, I am nothing like her."
Maanvi didn't know why she had felt like she had to make that clear. She would never even think of doing anything like what Maya did to Virat. He was much too special to her. Too special. She wondered why she kept thinking of him like that. After all, what relationship did they have other than friends?
"That I can see." Inayah replied with a smile. "So, what do you think of Virat?"
"Meaning?" Maanvi was confused as to why Inayah was asking her so many questions.
"I mean, you know the obvious fact that he's drop dead handsome, what do you think of him?"
"I'" She couldn't help but think of it as a trick question. Sure she thought that Virat was handsome but there was so much more to him. After all, you can't always judge a book by its cover. "Virat..." She breathed out his name. "Yes, he's good looking. Yes, he's everything a girl can ask for, but there's so much more to him. He is kind, caring, he always make you feel better." She thought about when he had helped her during the conference. "He can't bear to see anyone hurt." She thought about how he had cared for her when she had hurt herself. The way he had picked her up when she had fallen asleep. "What else can I say about him?" She couldn't help but think of him. Even now, when he wasn't with her she missed him like crazy as if, as if a part of her was stolen away.
"He cares about you so much doesn't he?"
"Yes." Maanvi said absentmindedly, her mind still on Virat.
"It's like life would be incomplete with him, right?"
"Yes."
"You love him that much, huh?"
"Yes."
Maanvi stopped, shocked at what had come out of her mouth. She twisted her head right back to Inayah who was looking at her smiling. Her mouth became very dry, her heart thumping at every beat, and her hands became clammy. What did she just say? Her mind was going numb, full of questions and emotions. "What did I just say? That I loved him?" She thought. "Did I really love him?" She looked ahead to see Virat coming back with Dev and a few others. Her heart skipped a beat just looking at him. She breathed out, totally confused. She thought about everything she had gone through with Virat. Their kiss. Their almost kiss. Their heart to heart. Their hugs. "I loved him?" She gasped.
"I love him." She spoke slowly. She looked up at Inayah. "I love him!" She exclaimed, falling back. She laughed a little. "I really love him!" She felt as if she was falling out of the sky, as if she was walking over the clouds and looking up into the Heavens. She had finally found her knight in shining armour. Her, her Prince Charming. Her Prince Virat.
She felt like she wanted to scream.
To admit it to the whole world, whether they were willing to listen or not. She, Maanvi Chaudary was in love with Virat Singh Vadhera! And no one was going to separate them. No one!
Inayah laughed softly watching the love struck Maanvi. She knew now that Maanvi was the right girl for Virat, there was just something about her that screamed out real. She was so different to Maya and Inayah felt bad for having to compare her to Maya. Truth was, Maanvi was just Maanvi. A girl in her own world. A girl who was able to get Virat out of his darkness, and into the mesmerising light.
Maanvi stopped smiling. Her dreams became crashing down at the thought of Virat not loving her. She frowned, "How can I think about this? How can Virat love me? He only ever loved one girl and, she hurt him." She wanted to cry, her dreams were breaking.
"What have you been up to?" Dev spoke. Maanvi quickly hid her fears as her eyes met Virat. She looked away, unable to look him in the eyes.
She sniffed, trying to stop her tears from forming in the eye. Inayah smiled as she replied to Dev, "Oh you know the usual. Just getting to know Maanvi. What about you guys? Oh wait, let me guess, you've been doing your usual guy things, the games, the drinking, blah blah." She replied, not impressed.
Dev laughed. "Oh, if you knew you'll be surprised."
"Oh really? What then?"
Virat jumped into the conversation. "Urm, Maanvi? It's getting late, shall we go?" She didn't speak but simply nodded as she waved Inayah and Dev a goodbye. Virat did a sigh of relief, unsure whether Dev would have told everyone about his feelings towards Maanvi. He didn't want her to find out in front of everyone. It was something that was only special to them. He smiled thinking about how she'd react. Dev was right, if Virat didn't tell Maanvi about his feelings then they will never be happy. Everything will be like a never ending circle.
There was a silence as they made their way back to the Hotel. Virat was itching to tell Maanvi that he loved her whilst Maanvi was in turmoil about her feeling towards Virat. She didn't know he'd react whilst he couldn't wait to tell her. They walked quickly but quietly up towards their room where they were at last, alone. Just the two of them. Maanvi wondered what Virat had to say, especially since he was hasty in getting back whilst Virat wanted to know why she had a solemn expression. He took one good look at her, his feelings becoming even more prominent.
He loved her, and no one was going to stop him.
"Maanvi, I'I have to tell you something." He spoke as he held her hand.
She looked at him confused but gestured him to go on.
"I'I'"
Just then, the phone started to ring. He tried to ignore it and continue but it started to ring again. He sighed, groaning a little before letting his hands off Maanvi's and walking to answer the phone. What he heard next, had crashed and burnt their lives.
"VIRAT!" A ear-piercing scream was heard, as a cold cry came through on the phone.
Maanvi ran towards Virat, to hear the phone. Her heart stopped to breathe as she listened whilst Virat looked at the phone, a tear falling down his eyes. "Ma?"
Silence.
