Chapter 4 -

"Any more arguments and I'll make those two months to four" Swayam's dad was fuming and he left Swayam's room huffily leaving behind a dumbstruck Swayam.

"All this is because of that Sharon...Someone who used to behave nicely with me till sometime ago, was on the verge of slapping me today...All because of that one girl...Sharon Rai Prakash, I'll make you regret it. You'll have to pay for your actions. Revenge is needed here. The game is on." Swayam mumbled to himself.

"Oh yes, one more thing Swayam." His father entered his room again. Swayam got all tensed up. "I'm going to Delhi for an important meeting tonight. I will be leaving at 10 pm. Please don't stay out too late. And spend some time with your mother. She feels all alone at such times. You don't even bother to eat dinner with her these days."

Swayam sighed in relief. Thank God his father wasn't giving him another shouting. But deep down he did feel guilty about not spending enough time with his mother.

"Ok bye Dad." Swayam said. He got up to pick up his laptop. It was lying on the floor.

Swayam's father shook his head, disgusted. He walked out of the room.

Swayam began watching a movie he had downloaded long ago. So what if he couldn't watch his VCDs and DVDs? What was the Internet for?

He got himself a bowl of popcorn and sat down on the bed, with the laptop on his lap. He was so lost in the movie that he didn't realise his phone was vibrating. He came out of his trance only when he heard his mother scream loudly.

He jumped off the bed and ran down the stairs, in the direction of his mother's scream. He found her sitting on the sofa. She looked ready to faint. At that moment, the maid came running with a glass of water.

"Mom , mom! What happened?" He knelt beside his mother and placed his hands on her hands. "Tell me please!"

"B-b-beta, your father has had an accident. He was on his way to the airport and his car was hit by a passing car. He's in the hospital now. We have to rush over there. He's unconscious right now." His mother got up from the seat, deliberately trying to avoid eye contact with her son.

Swayam was shocked. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. His father'in an accident? He was numb.But he had to remain calm. For his mother.

"Chalo, let's go right now. I am driving. Jaldi chalo." He said, picking up the car keys hanging on the wall and walking in the direction of the door.

He got the car out. His mother was waiting at the gate. She got in, looking numb.

Swayam drove as fast as he could without breaking the speed limit or the rules. He had to get there soon. He had to be there for his father.

On the other side of town was Sharon, sitting on her bed, boiling with anger. She couldn't believe he had humiliated her like that. How could he? How DARE he?

Kria had gone for a bath and Sharon took this time to vent out all her anger. She was so frustrated. She had got such a good job but all her happiness had gone away thanks to that stupid Swayam. She couldn't even enjoy her new found job.

"Sharon, Sharon..where are you?" Her mother came running into the room, looking scared and tensed up.''

"What's wrong, Mama?" Sharon asked, getting off the bed and walking towards her mother.

"Sharon, you need to take me to Cama Hospital. Your dad is already there and none of the drivers around since it is a Sunday.Papa's friends Mr Shekhwat has had an accident and he is in the hospital. I have to be there to support Leena, his wife. She must be going through immense trauma right now."

"Ok, ok Mama. I will get the car out now , you come to the gate soon. But what about Kria? Should I write her a post-it informing her about where we are going?"

"Yes yes you do that Sharon. I am going now, you get the car out fast please."

Sharon wrote a post it note for her sister and stuck it on the table near the mirror. She quickly took her car keys and rushed out .

It was almost 7 pm by the time they reached the hospital. It had taken them almost 1 hour to get to the hospital even though it was only 20 minutes away from their house.

All the while, Sharon was trying to remember who Mr Shekhawat was. Her stay abroad had made her jumble up all the family friends in her mind. She couldn't seem to remember who he was.

They rushed into the waiting room where Sharon's dad had told them to come. He was standing there, next to the sofa. On the sofa sat a middle-aged good looking woman in a sari. She clearly had been crying for a long time. She must be Mrs Shekhawat , Sharon thought. She had met the lady before, now that she thought about it.

Suddenly, a young man appeared with a cup of coffee and handed it over to his mother. His hands were shaking as he gave it to his mother. His mother took it carefully, but the cup looked very unsteady in her hand. Sharon looked up to see who this man was. It was Swayam.

Sharon was shocked. She was working for Mr Shekhwat? Swayam was Mr Shekhwat's son? So the man who had interviewed her was no one but Mr Shekhwat, one of her father's closest friends. Sharon's mouth fell open.

She stood there transfixed while her mother went ahead to comfort Swayam's grief-stricken mother. Swayam had now sunk on the sofa beside his mother and had his head in his hands. He was shaking silently.

Suddenly, all the anger and hatred she had for him melted away when she saw him so sad and upset. He looked so scared, she could see a little of his face under his hands. She had this sudden urge to go and comfort him.

She began walking over to where he was sitting. Thankfully, he hadn't noticed her yet. He hadn't even seen her mother, who was sitting next to his mother, comforting her and assuring her that her husband would be fine.

Suddenly something pulled Sharon back. No it wasn't a person who pulled her back. Nor was it something which her shirt got caught on. It was her ego. Her ego was pulling her back.

He had humiliated her , he had made her feel so bad. Why should she comfort him? Hadn't he felt bad when he had mocked her? Had he apologised to her? Did he even feel guilty? Then why was she rushing over to comfort him?

But his father is lying unconscious, her conscience spoke up. This isn't about you Sharon, it's about him. He needs support. He need to be assured that everything will be fine. He needs a friend.

Sharon was stuck. She was caught in the middle of choosing between her ego, her pride..and between her conscience. Doing the right thing.

Sharon closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to figure out the answer to her problem.

What should I do? She thought, looking at the tall figure sitting in front of her.
