Chapter 63
Arnav looked at Khushi quietly for several seconds before speaking, his intense and serious gaze still had the capacity to make her nervous. Arnav took a deep breath, 'I know that ordinarily a couple would go away on their honeymoon after the wedding, but we can't do this Khushi, not yet any way,' he said quietly as looked at her carefully to read her expression. 'Are you ok with this Khushi?' So this was what was worrying him, Khushi thought with a big silent sigh of relief. Khushi stood up and walked around the coffee table and took a seat next to him on the couch. She took his large hand in hers, 'Arnav, there's always a time and place for everything and if you think that the time for a honeymoon isn't right now, then I trust you. I'm absolutely ok with this. Besides going later means that we have another break to look forward to,' she said as her squeezed his hand. Arnav nodded. With one issue resolved, Arnav squared his shoulders as he turned his body to face her; it was time to broach the next topic.
Khushi flushed with embarrassment as she silently chided herself. She should have known what Arnav meant - for heaven's sake he was after all the Arnav Singh Raizada, multi-billionaire and the Chief Executive Officer of one of the biggest companies in the country. Of course it was going be news when he got married! Khushi tried very hard to swallow as an extremely sudden and serious case of nervousness overcame her as she forced a smile on her face. Despite the surreal fairytale like events leading to the wedding, suddenly it hit her; this was all very real. She had married Arnav Singh Raizada, she was now a part of his world and no she had no clue what was expected of a CEO's wife. Khushi tired to suppress that horrible feeling of her breakfast making its way back up her throat as she forced a smile on her face.
As Khushi fought the wave of panic overcoming her, she remembered Arnav's promise to her 'I promise that in me, you will always have someone you can talk to...about anything, at anytime.' The smile disappeared and she took a deep breath as she looked into Arnav's deep brown eyes; he made her a promise, but the onus to act on it when required was hers. 'Arnav you said that I can talk to you about anything,' she began hesitantly as Arnav's expression instantly softened as he nodded, Khushi continued 'I'm...I'm scared, I mean, I'm a little nervous about this. I mean, I know you're a big deal and I thought I was on the right track. I mean, I sometimes forget that you are Arnav Singh Raizada... and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do or how I'm supposed to act in front of all those people' she said as she looked down and began knotting the belt of her robe as her voice trailed off and she struggled not to stumble over her words.
Arnav raised Khushi's chin so that she was forced to look at him, 'Right now you are nervous because you think that you know me, but you don't know me right?' Khushi nodded as Arnav continued 'Khushi, we might be married, but don't forget that we are still getting to know each other. I can understand why this is hard for you but Khushi think of it this way, you probably know Arnav Singh Raizada a lot more than you realise because you've worked with him for over 12 months. In that time you were absolutely proficient in dealing with him and those around him. The only difference now is that you are not his PA but you are married to him and all you need to do is be yourself just like before,' he said quietly. She still didn't look convinced. Arnav took a deep breath, 'Khushi, I'm nervous too... I've never felt like this about someone before. Relationships and love was something that I didn't do so this is new for me and I'm trying to work it out along the way. We'll both need to adjust to fitting into each other's worlds and lives. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that there is no right way or wrong way to get to know each other or to do this. There is only our way which will be whatever we make it. We just have to guide each other and tonight you have nothing to worry about because I will be with you every step of the way,' he said with a firm edge of complete reassurance in his voice, his gaze unwavering.
=============================
Amid laughter and teasing from the younger members of both families, Arnav and Khushi were led to the seating area. NK piped up, 'Di, I think you better get a black coffee for Nanaav, he looks like he hasn't had much sleep...was it very cold there?' he asked innocently, but his eyes twinkling with naughtiness. Arnav gave NK a look to warn him only to hear his brand new saali speak up, 'NK-ji, I think jeeja-ji was too busy keeping my sister warm... hence no sleep you see,' whispered Payal conspiratorially as Khushi exchanged a glance with Arnav and turned bright red. Nani cleared her throat as she bit back her own laughter; if Arnav was anything like his Nana then Deviyaani was certain that Khushi wouldn't have had a wink of sleep all night.
An hour later, as the family chatted and discussed arrangements for the Gupta's move, Arnav discretely led Khushi to his bedroom at Shantivan. Just as they came to his door, Arnav swung Khushi around and swept her up in his arms. Khushi gasped as she instinctively clutched his shoulders, 'Arnav...what are you doing, they'll see us?!' she whispered breathlessly. Arnav gave her one of his cheeky but very self confident smiles, 'I checked with your Google-ji and apparently its tradition for the groom to carry his bride across the threshold because it's symbolic of the groom stealing his bride and whisking her away from her family and into a new life with him. So that's what I'm doing... stealing you from them,' he said huskily as he rubbed his nose against hers and walked through the doors and then slowly set her back on her feet just in front of his large bed.
Arnav watched the red colour stain her cheeks and he knew what association she now made with the word bed. He leaned close and kissed her cheek, 'I think I know what you are thinking about Khushi,' he said as he leaned close again and brushed his mouth against hers. 'Me? No I'm not thinking about anything important,' she said quickly. 'It must be important,' he said as he placed tiny kisses along her jaw, 'because you were blushing.' Khushi shook her head, 'I wasn't thinking about anything,' she murmured. 'Liar,' he said his voice low and seductive. 'Khushi, if you don't want to tell me what you were thinking, then maybe you'd like to hear what I'm thinking.' Looking into his eyes Khushi knew instantly where his mind was as he traced her lips with his eyes. She held her breath as he lowered his head and brushed his mouth against hers and he kissed her slowly, deeply and thoroughly, exploring her mouth in a way that left her breathless. When he raised his head, Khushi hoped he wasn't going to ask her anything because her head was spinning and she didn't have access to a single coherent thought.
Khushi fished out her phone from her handbag and then unzipped her suitcase and pulled out the file that she and Arnav had worked on together. After taking Devi Maiya's name and sending up a prayer for strength, courage and success, Khushi dialled Amina Rizwi's number.
One hour later, Khushi pressed the call end button on her phone and slowly placed the mobile phone down on top of her file. She walked to the sliding door and slid it open before slowly making her way to where Arnav was. He was sitting on a dark grey outdoor wicker chair and was deep in concentration as he read something on his laptop. It was only when her shadow fell against him that he swung his head up to look at her. He stared at her, his dark intense eyes narrowing as he waited for her to speak. Khushi instantly noticed that his muscles had tensed and his breathing had quickened as he raised his eyebrows as if to ask 'and?' There was only one response Khushi could manage; she smiled and nodded.
Arnav let out the breath that he had been holding; he had negotiated countless multi-million dollar deals and hadn't felt half as nervous as he waited for Khushi. He wasn't on edge because he doubted her skills, but because he knew just how much Khushi wanted to make this dream a reality. And now she had done it. He stood up slowly as he bridged the short distance to where Khushi stood. He could clearly see the after effects of the adrenaline rush; her eyes were wide open, her face was slightly flushed and he could actually see the vibration of her pounding heart. He took her shaking hand in his as he looked into her eyes, 'relax Khushi, you've done it,' he said with a smile. Arnav watched as Khushi took a deep breath and she placed her other hand on top of their joined finger, her eyes were bright and full of excitement as she spoke, 'I can't believe it Arnav, I was so nervous!! But once I started, I just kept thinking about what you said about making sure I was happy with the terms, so I told Amina that I wanted the funding but Jaleebi Junction had to be based in Delhi. At first, she said no and my heart sank, but then I remembered how you always take a minute to think before you speak, so I did that and then I told her about the research we had done and quoted all those numbers and metronotromical models that you taught me.' Arnav bit his lip as he smiled to himself and didn't correct her. Khushi continued, 'I think Amina was really impressed because she said that it was clear that I had done my homework. Anyway, I have to email her all those projections now and she said she'll courier the contract tomorrow and I should have the funds before the end of the week,' she said excitedly.
Eventually Arnav stopped and let Khushi slide down until her feet touched the paved floor. He pulled her close. She was like a drug that he couldn't get enough of. Khushi closed her eyes and concentrated on the feel of his lips against hers. Soon what began as an act of love and affection deepened as Arnav pulled her closer and sank his fingers into her hair, cupping the back of her head to hold her steady as his tongue danced with hers. Eventually they both had to break apart as their lungs burned for oxygen. As they both tried to steady their breathing, Arnav noticed a flash of worry on her face, 'Khushi?' he prompted gently.
