Part 3

Resting his head on his hands, Arnav rubbed his face on Khushi's pillow, his headache ebbing away by seconds as he inhaled the sweet smell of roses mixed with jasmine, the scent that clung to her skin, to her hair and lingered on him when they made love. And suddenly he was aching to have his wife with him, to look into her eyes and see the fathomless love for him burning bright, to have her slender arms around him, to have that soft, curvy body wrapped around him. He was craving her touch. He was craving Khushi.

He wasn't hurt enough to warrant a massage, but he was not above manipulation when it suited him. And right now he needed to be alone with his wife, away from his family and guests. Khushi was hurting and he needed to change that. Soon. And if there was one thing Khushi had no control over, it was over her reactions if he was hurt or in danger. She had pretended to have hurt her foot ten days before their six-month marriage contract coming to an end, but had forgotten that and had come running to him as soon as he had pretended to be hurt as well. And his kidnapping. His wife had risked her life to rescue him. And now even if she was upset, she would come to him because he was hurting.

How did he get so lucky to get Khushi in his life?

Something was hurting Khushi and he had a nagging feeling that it had something to do with him. Was he neglecting his wife these days? Being too attentive to his work? But Khushi has accepted that he was a workaholic and apart from the occasional mutterings about how much he was in love with his laptop, Bluetooth and iphone, she was okay. Then what was it?

Was it because of the attention he paid to Sheetal and little Aarav. Sure he was fond of that angry little boy and spending time with Sheetal brought back some nice memories, but Khushi had to know that she was the most special person in his life now, heck she was his life now. She had to know that she was the reason he breathed, the reason his heart would beat.

Suddenly, he was not so sure of what was going through his wife's mind anymore. Khushi was crazy, that was certain, crazy enough to get a DNA test done to confirm if Aarav was indeed his son. True, the kid at times behaved more like Arnav than Arnav himself did. The way he ate, the way he said 'What the..', which kid of that age used that kind of phrase, and why did not Sheetal washed his mouth with soap as Khushi would have done, had their kid behaved like this.

And the way Aarav dressed, it was scary. As if he was programmed to be a miniature Arnav Singh Raizada!

Was he?

Trained to behave in a certain manner? And who would do that? To prove what? That he was indeed fathered by none other than ASR? What would someone achieve by doing that?

Hurt Khushi and shatter her trust in him, for one. And was he adding fire to the fuel by spending time with the mother-son duo? By being friendly with them? By letting them stay in his house, having Sheetal working in AR?

Was he himself hurting Khushi by doing all these?

His blood iced over by the thought. He had promised himself that he would never hurt Khushi, would never be the reason for her tears.

Has he already broken that promise?

He was jolted out of his reverie at the sound of his bedroom door being opened and then slammed shut. His wife has arrived.
