Taani reached the college and quickly got out
"How much?" she asked the driver.
"50 rupees madam" the driver replied.
Taani took 100 rupees from her bag, holding it out to the driver she said:
"You made me reach a lot earlier than i would have if i had taken a cab."
The driver declined and replied "Madam, i was just doing my job"
"Then this is a reward for doing it so well." she pressed the note into his hands
"But madam-" he began to say but stopped as Taani had already started running towards the gate.
"Thank you" she shouted as she ran.
The driver smiled to himself, and said softly "God Bless You Child"
Sharon too was in a hurry. She ran as soon as the car stopped.
"uff! I had to become late today itself. I wanted to make an entry on my first day. Such tht everyone notices me." she mumbled to herself while running. " I doubt if anyone will even see me when I'm running like this."
Even though they hadn't noticed it, Taani and Sharon were running beside each other at the same pace, but as they didn't know each other, it wouldn't have made a difference if they did.
As soon as they entered the college, Taani went left and Sharon right. Both of them didn't know where their classroom was.
At last they found it, and started running towards it from both sides, trying to see if the teacher had come or not. Because of this, they hadn't seen each other.
When it was clear to both of them, that there was no teacher inside, the looked in front with relief and saw each other. They tried to stop, but it was too late. They collided and went sprawling on the floor.
"Ouch!" they said in unision as they rubbed their heads.
Taani and Sharon, both knew that they hadn't looked where they were going. They immediately felt guilty for causing the other girl to fall.
"I'm sorry. Are you O-", they began together, but stopped seeing that the other girl had said the same thing.
Then they began together again "No, it's my fau-". This time they looked at each other and started laughing.
Taani quickly got up and gave Sharon a hand.
"Hi, I'm Taani" she said
Sharon looked at her, caught her hand and pulled herself up.
"Thanks, I'm sharon" she replied
Taani asked her "Are you new in St Louis"
"yes you too huh?"
"Yea" said Taani "I'm sorry for hitting you like that "I was in a hurry, and i hadn't seen you."
"Oh that's Ok." Sharon said "Even I wasn't looking where i was going"
"As we have so much in common, why don't we stop this sorry and thank you?" Taani said smiling.
"What?" Sharon asked with a confused expression on her face.
"Friends?" Taani extended her hand and said.
"Friends" Sharon said shaking her hand.
They laughed once again.
"Let's go to class. If the teacher comes and sees us, we'll be dead." Taani said to Sharon.
"Yea you are right. Let's go." Said sharon.
Both went to class and sat next to each other. Just as they did, the teacher came in.
"It's a good thing we came into the class" said Taani in a relieved tone."
"Ya. Otherwise we would've gotten in serious trouble for being late, that too on the first day."
Soon the class was over.
"Wow! that was boring" said Taani
"Boring? boring is not enough to describe that" replied Sharon
They walked out of the class giggling.
Suddenly, a hand stopped them. Four girls stood in front of them. The front had raised an eyebrow, and none of them had even a smile on their faces. Taani and Sharon knew by that expression that they weren't here to make friends. They backed a little.
Suddenly, as if with a click, the girl's expressions changed and their faces became more friendlier.
"Hi I'm Neha. This is Rinni, Simmi and vishaka" the first girl said, pointing first to herself and then to the other three girls one by one.
"Hi, I'm Taani"
"and I'm Sharon" They both replied one after the other.
"Nice to meet you" said Neha "we noticed that you guys were new, so we thought you guys might need a little help. We can show you around the college."
"Really?" Taani asked.
"Of course" replied Simmi.
"Thank you" said sharon.
"You are welcome"replied Rinni with a smile.
Taani felt something was not right. The sudden change in their facial expression, their sudden friendliness, it all confused her. She looked at Sharon and understood that she too felt the same way.
"umm...Sharon? do you think we should go with them?" She whispered to sharon as Neha, Simmi, Rinni and Vishaka started walking.
"I don't know, but maybe we can trust them. After all they are trying to help us...I think" Sharon whispered back.
"Hey guys! aren't you coming?" Vishakha shouted as they had already reached far.
"Coming" Taani said as she and Sharon ran to catch up with the others.
Taani and Sharon were shown every place in the college. Finnaly the all came to a large door.
"This is our last destination" said Rinni
"but what is it?" asked Sharon looking at the door from up to down.
"Oh this hall is not used for any certain purpose or anything, we don't even know why it was built, but we like to come here anyway.
"Come on dude, Let's go in" said vishaka, and opened the door.
All six of them went inside.
"Wow! this place is soo..." Taani said but couldn't complete as she hadn't found the perfect word to describe it.
"Different?" asked Simmi.
"yea!" said sharon "It's not at all like the rest of the college."
"That's the reason we like it so much" said Rinni. "And mostly no one other than us comes here."
"And that's why..." vishaka said and paused with an evil looking smile. She looked towards the door.Then she continued "this is the perfect place to rag you"
"What?" asked Taani with a shocked expression on her face.
"Rag us?" Sharon asked. She too had the same expression.
Quickly, they looked to wards the door which was now being closed by two boys...
