So I had no intention of updating until the weekend but napstermonster has a penchant for making credible threats so by fear of her withholding her updates I present to you my next installment.
Chapter 2
This had to be a joke. A prank. Khushi had a habit of messing with his head so this was simply one of her more elaborate schemes to torture him. She would tease him a little and when he would pretend to get angry with her she would come up to him make that cute puppy dog face and hug him. Then he would reciprocate her hug and she would give that bright smile showing all 32 of her teeth and all would be right in the world again. Yes that had to be it. She was teasing him because she was angry that he hadn't come home sooner. And so with these thoughts Arnav moved forward again to gather her into his arms and apologize profusely because he was in no mood to be teased. She would melt in his arms, she always did and this time would be no different.
So it came to him as a shock when she flinched away and looked at him with eyes filled with fear and said, "I want to go. P-p-please let me go'"
He continued to stare at her dumbfounded. Let her go? Why on earth would he do something stupid like that?
" I want to go to Amma Babuji, I want to go to Jiji. Please let me go'" she ended in a whisper, her body starting to shake as she burst into tears.
She had repeatedly begged this man to let her go but he continued to look at her with a strange expression. She needed to get back home. She needed to make him understand this was all a misunderstanding. She hadn't meant to ruin anything. All she had been doing was going to meet someone when she had been pulled onto the stage. This man had stared at her with pure loathing, manhandled her, and locked her up in a room. So it came as a surprise when all she could now register on his face was hurt, despair, only misery. When he didn't react in any way she burst out,
" I want to go! Let me leave! I have to get home on time! You don't understand. Everything will be ruined. They'll go back. You can't do this to my Jiji! Her wedding'She'll be heart broken. She'll be ruined!"
She wanted to meet her parents? Of course he would take her to them! There was clearly no reason for her to cry but this thought hadn't completely formed in his mind when her next words registered in his mind. Her wedding'She'll be heart broken. She'll be ruined.
"K-K-Khushi'" he stammered out.
"No I told you I don't know you. Why would I try to ruin your show? Let me go!" she yelled.
"Sweetheart, it's me, Arnav. Your Laad Governor. Please stop joking. I know you're angry and I'm sorry," he pleaded while engulfing her in a hug.
His strong embrace caused her to cry out in fear "NO!"
Payal had been sitting with her head on Akash's shoulder in the hallway outside Khushi's room. Thanks to Devi Mayya they had brought Khushi in just in time and Jethji had gone in to sit by her quite a while ago. She had heard a few noises inside the room but decided to ignore it thinking it was their own way of reuniting. After all it wasn't the first time her or anyone else for that matter had thought that Arnav and Khushi were a strange couple. She rested her head on Akash's shoulder again but got up when she distinctly heard Khushi yelling something about Amma Babuji and her "Jiji." She decided to go in only to find Jethji holding onto Khushi in a fierce embrace while she was trying to push him away. This scene was in fact even stranger than she had anticipated.
Arnav heard the door burst open and a tired looking Payal stepped in followed by Akash. This momentary distraction was enough for Khushi to struggle out of his arms and launch herself into Payal. Payal looked up at Arnav confused and then turned to Khushi asking, "Khushi what's wrong?"
"Jiji this man won't let me go! I keep telling him it wasn't my fault! I didn't do it on purpose! I don't even know him Jiji!" Khushi cried.
"Khushi, what are you talking about? This is Arnavji, your husband" said Payal with a perplexed expression.
"Are you out of your mind Jiji? I'm not married so how could I have a husband? And especially a Rakhshas like him?" she replied.
Arnav could feel his whole body becoming heavy and breaking out in a cold sweat. There was this strange ringing sensation in his ears and this scorching fire running through his head. He sat down on the stool and looked up at Akash only for him to say, "I'll go get the doctor bhai."
"What the f**k is wrong with my wife? What did you do to her? How could she not remember me? I swear I will ruin you!" he bellowed at the middle-aged doctor.
Dr. Hassan had spent years in the neurosurgery department and it was his own personal theory proved by experience that the family members were often more unstable than the patients themselves. The man standing in front of him who was threatening to bring him and the whole hospital down, the husband of his patient, Mrs. Raizada, was a fine specimen as further proof for his personal theory. This was why Dr. Hassan schooled his expression into the most serene facade he could manage and explained to him that his wife was suffering from Retrograde Amnesia and the last thing she remembered was being trapped in a dark room while trying to make it in time to her sister's wedding.
"So you mean to tell me that not only is that Rakhshas my husband but also your Jethji because you're married to his younger brother?" Khushi asked Payal.
"Yes Khushi, that is exactly what I'm saying" explained a harried looking Payal.
"Why does Buaji call me Sanka Devi?" Khushi quipped.
"What? Really Khushi? You want to know this now?" asked Payal.
"Well yeah. I mean clearly Jiji you deserve that title far more than I do" she commented.
"Look at this Khushi! Does this seem like a joke to you?" asked Payal while holding up her mangalsutra. In her other hand she had Khushi's mangalsutra and showed it to her saying "And this one is yours. Do you still think I'm joking?"
No. This couldn't possibly be true. Was she really married to that monster of a man? But how? Why would she marry someone so' so evil? And hadn't he essentially destroyed Jiji's wedding? Her happiness? But Jiji was married to his brother? What in Devi Mayya's name was going on? As she was thinking this the man that was apparently her Jijaji stepped in and said, "Bhai is talking to the doctor Khushiji. Don't worry, everything will be fine. Dr. Hassan says you will recover your memories."
Well she couldn't wait to recover these memories and figure out how she could have possibly landed herself in this situation.
Arnav sat on the chair outside her room with his head bent over gripped in his hands. All he had seen in his Khushi's eyes was fear and pure loathing. He wasn't used to this loathing anymore. He couldn't stand to see it again. She doesn't love me anymore'she hates me! She hates me! No! I won't let this happen again. This time I won't give her a reason to hate me. And with this resolve Arnav Singh Raizada stood tall again and walked into his wife's room.
A figure stood peeking from behind the corner at her room. So she's forgotten everything. No evidence. Devi Mayya helps the righteous after all. These were the thoughts running through the mind of the figure with crazed eyes walking out of the hallway. The figure suddenly burst out laughing and the nearby nurse stared at him with pity thinking perhaps he had lost his mind along with a family member.
Authors Note: So do tell me how it is guys. And keep in mind I do not really have the story planned out in my mind, at least not much of it anyway so feel free to make any comments you want. Unlike the CVs, I am most definitely not averse to suggestions.
