*CHAPTER 7*
-WHERE THE OTHERS WERE-
"Bhere eej phatti sadi und arnav bituwa, hain?" Mamiji said.
Anjali was waiting too. Where were they? She needed to talk to Khushi, and now that she was high, she would know what was so wrong about ArShi's relationship. She wanted to know, and help them both, but she needed to find answers first! Khushiji, where are you!
Just then, Mamiji happened to see Arnav walking towards them.
"Arnav bitua! You phinally comej?" Mamiji said.
Anjali turned to see Arnav walking alone, in a dazed sort of manner. Then his eyes met Anjali's and his pace increased.
"Di, can I talk to you for a sec?" Arnav asked, looking at Anjali.
Anjali gulped. "Yes. What is it?"
Arnav caught his sister's hand and took her aside, and asked very slowly. "Di, the milk you gave? It was BHAANG!" he said.
"Oh? It was BHAANG was it? Um, I... I did not know...The glass and milk look the same...uff! I mean bhaang and milk look the same and-" Anjali started.
"Di! It's fine...Relax!" Arnav said.
"Uh, Chhotey...Where is Khushiji?" Anjali asked.
"Di...she got...well, high and she passed out. She is in our bedroom."
Anjali sighed. All her hard work for nothing.
The day passed and Khushi remained passed out throughout the day...Three glasses of bhaang and so much emotional confusion had streesed her out
-That Night-
Arnav lay next to Khushi, staring at her sleeping face... His hands were entwined in hers. He watched sadly, as her innocent face began to crease with frowns, and she kept muttering something... 'secrets...' 'my fault' and other random phrases. He took her hand and kissed it, whispering, "I am so sorry Khushi" against her hand. Arnav looked at her face, and felt like kicking himself...HOw could he have ever doubted that innocent face...?! He remembered the words and accusations he had hurled against her, and could imagine the pain she must have gone through...He remembered how much hurt and heart broken he had been when he had thought she loved Shyam...He had been worse to her...He hoped he could get her out of the depression she was now in. He would figure everything out soon, he decided. ANd fell asleep with tears of remorse in his eyes...
-The Next Day-
Khushi woke up to warm sunrays on her cheek. She got up groggily, and discovered she was lying on his bed. How had she ended up here? The last ting she remembered was accusing Arnav of mixing bhaang in her drink... Hey Devi Maiyya! BHAANG! SHe hoped she had not blurted out too much... If she was here, then he would probably be on the recliner, she thought a little dazedly, taken aback at the fact that he had not even woken her up and yelled at her to sleep out. Di must have been here at might... she said and tried getting up. But something pulled her down. Frowning, she turned around and saw a familiar hand entwined in hers, holding hers tightly. She looked up shocked, straight in his chocolate brown eyes...She realized she was looking into his eyes after a long time... She was now looking at Arnav's eyes, not ASR's. She gulped in fear; had she held his hand by mistake at night?
"Oh, I am sorry...I did not realize..." she said awkwardly and scrunched her eyes shut, waiting for verbal knives to spear her. But none came. She opened her eyes in surprise again. She tugged at her hand slightly, but he held on.
Arnav sat up suddenly on the bed, and in one quick movement was hugging Khushi, completely derailing her train of thoughts. She felt her shoulders getting wet, and pushed Arnav away slightly, to examine his face. Forgetting everything, she asked him shocked. "Arnavji, are you c-crying!?"
Aranv looked at her...How could he have missed the love that she had when she said his name? He did not answer her, and hugged her again, tighter. "I am so so sorry Khushi. Please mujhe maaf kar do?" he said against her neck.
His breath tingled her skin. She was completely taken aback. "J-Ji?" she asked.
In response, he cupped her face and kissed her forehead. "I am really very sorry Khushi."
Khushi thought she would dissolve in hysteria any moment. She wanted to badly say that she hated him! Did he really think ONE APOLOGY would justify everything he had done to her? She wanted to scream at him...
But instead, she hugged him back, a wave of emotions rolling off of her, which Arnav could sense. This made him guiltier. How could she still love him after all that he had done...They were locked in each other's arms, until Arnav decided that he now had to tell Khushi the reason behind their contract marriage... That he wanted to extend the six month contract to a matrimony that bind them forever. He started to tell, her when HP knocked on their door.
"Arnav Bhaiyya! Amanji called just now. He said there is a meeting with clients in half an hour!"
"Ok HP. I will be out soon."
Khushi pulled away from him, and smiled through her tears. "You are getting late."
"We will talk things out in the evening," he promised her.
He got ready for office and left. Khushi smiled to herself and got ready. Draping herself in a blue sari, she went downstairs and went straight to the kitchen and began her chores. She was bubbly throughout the day.
-Evening-
3:30pm
Khushi walked into the kitchen, to help prepare the dinner Anjali was making something. "Arey, Anjaliji! Wait, I will do it!" Khushi said.
Anjali looked up in surprise as she handed over the ladle she had been stirring the kheer with, to Khushi. She seemed happy today. After a long time...Some of her lost color had creeped into her cheeks. She looked at the kheer she was making and how she was smiling... "Khushiji, for Chhotey-"
"Yes yes Anjaliji. I remember. Suger-free Kheer." Khushi nodded, still smiling.
Anjali realized that though SHE had missed out the action, something must have happened yesterday that she hadn't noticed. She wasn't curious to know what had happened; she was just glad things were falling in place.
"Khushiji?" Anjali said.
"Yes Anjaliji?" Khushi said.
"I have a very serious problem." she said seriously.
Khushi looked up, worried. "Is everything alright?"
"No Khushiji." she said, solemnly.
"Anjaliji? Tell me what is the problem?" khushi said, going towards her.
"My Problem, Khushiji, is with you."
Khushi was stunned. "What did I do?"
"You are my little brother's wife..." Anjali started.
Khushi's eyes immediately filled with tears. "Anjaliji, I know the way we married was wrong but-"
"Arey Khushiji! Let me complete! You are my little brother's wife... My bhabhi calls her only Nanand with a 'JI'? Please call me Di Khushiji..." she smiled.
Khushi looked at Anjali for a minute and gave her a bear-hug. "OkaY Anjaliji...I mean, Di..."
Things were finally fallong in place, Khushi thought happily. But what Khushi did not know, was that another heartbreak was coming...
-At ASR's Office-
4:30pm
Arnav was glad. But he still had to find out about Shyam... Khushi's words were floating in his mind-
"He-He was a paying guest in Buaji's house in Delhi and told me he was unmarried ..."
Paying Guest at Buaji's house? And he had told her he was unmarried ...? These words did not make sense to him... Then he remembered something else...
my meeting THAT DISGUSTING VILE MAN who cheats on his wife...I am in Delhi because of him, and under the same roof lives the man I hate with all my being...He betrayed my family...
He realized that the disgusting vile man was Shyam; he was under the same roof as her, so it fit... But what role did Khushi's family have anything to do with it? How were THEY being betrayed?
He knew who he had to ask... He got up and grabbed his car keys, and stormed out of AR, determined to find out the truth, and blissfull oblivious to the storm that was brewing at this very second at home...
