PART 7- A BLOW TO THE HEARTKhushi found what she was looking for. She stared at it... She needed a reason! Just one more reason...and that would be it. She heard somebody coming. Shyam. She tried not to let the fear tha gripped her heart show on her face. Shyam came back, with a smirk that scared Khushi. She wanted to get out of here... She hated the dark! She wished she knew how much longer she would be in here...Devi Maiyya knew how long she had been here. It must be quite a long time...hours and hours had passed. Sooo many hours, she knew it must be roughly afternoon of the day after she was brought here. Shyam hadn't really gone to meet Rani Sahiba... He had gone for some other 'arrangement'. Khushiji would soon be his. After what he was going to tell her..."Khushiji, to tell you the truth, you should really take that hope off your face. Saale saab will never find you!" She kept her expressiom smooth."I mean, let's see... He is now in India..." Khushi's eyes widened with hope, which immediateky blew out after Shyam's next words, "And he must have noticed by now that you and I ar missing. And the 'intelligent' man that he is, he will figure out you and I are together. He will look for us, blinded by anger. But this will be the last place he will look for you. You know why Khushiji? Because we he hasn't visited here for nearly fourteen years. And you know Khushiji, one more thing? Those papers...? They are indeed with me... Thank you Khushiji... Saale saab's property will be mine." he loomed at her smirking, "And we can live happily.""Never!" Khushi retorted. "If you hid them in the house, he will surely find it." She tried to hide her surprise... Property? She had read the papers herself! When had this happened?Shyam smirked. "He won't find it. It is in a wonderful place?" You know where Khushiji?" he leaned closer to her, "Under RajKumari's cradle...safely taped." Just then his phone rang. "Excuse me Khushiji," he said mockingly, and left. Khushi could think only one thing. TELL ARNAV! TELL ARNAV! TELL ARNAV! She grabbed the cellpjone shehad hid behind her and called him.As Payal left, Arnav asked Anjali. "How Di? Kaise pata chala aapko?"Anjali smiled sadly. "Mushkil nahi tha Chhotey."At his quizzing look, she continued. "Things happened Chhotey and I pieced them together. I once saw Shyamji in Laxminagar. Then, I had once gone to the temple and had met him there? I had left, but went back to give him his phone, as I lowered the glass to give it back to him, when I saw a man with a mustache and shawl. I didn't bother then, but yaad hai Chhotey, hum Akash ka rishta lekar Payalji ke ghar gaye the? Tab humne dekha woh shawl wala aadmi, Khushiji aur Payalji ke Babuji the" Arnav looked at her stunned! He remembered that day too... Uncle had reacted strangely on seeing Di...With a jolt he realized that uncle knew... Anjali continued. "Aur Khushiji ke sagayi ki ring...bilkul inke pasand ka tha. Unhone bahaane toh banaae aur hume bhi ek ring di, per jab hum un jeweller ke paas gaye, toh pata chala ki Shyamji ne 2 aisi ring kharidi.Aur hume ye baat bahut ajeeb lagi ki jab hum Khushiji ke ghar jaate, na unke mangetar humse milte, na Shyamji hamare ghar mein Khushiji se milte. Jiss taraha se Khushiji ne uss din Shyamji ko dekha, jab humne inn dono ka introduction kiya. Aur tab hume yaad aaya ki unke PG/Mangetar ka naam bhi Shyaam tha aur hum dil hi dil mein jaante the ki kuch gadbad hai. Aur jab bhi hum Khushiji ko inke saath kuch karne bolte, woh inkaar kar deti thi..." At this Arnav looked up. "Tumhe yaad hai Chhotey? Uss raat ko, jab tum dono Heer-Ranjha ka play kiya tha? Humne Khushiji ko Shyamji ke saath dawa laane bheja, per unhone bahane bananeki koshish ki. Per hum unhe akele kaise jaane dete...?" She sighed. "And most important confirmation was when he said it from his own mouth...""Shyam TOLD you?" Arnav asked shocked."No Chhotey... He told YOU..." Arnav remembered the day that too clearly. "Arey, Khushiji hamari jaan ban chuki hai. Hamara deewanapan! Pagalpan! Aur unke hamaare beech sirf ek hai aur woh hai Rani Sahiba." "Pata hai Chhotey, hamaara dil toota nahi... Kyunki hum andar hi andar jaante the..." Just then Arnav's phone rang, he absent-mindedly picked it up. "Hello?""Hello? Arnavji?" A weak voice answered. Arnav was alert at once... She sounded so weak! "Khushi?!" Anjali looked up immediately, anxiety in her eyes."Arnavji, phir se hum bolenger, aur aap sunenge." Her voice sounded near to tears, constantly breaking. Khushi was trying not to cry."Di's cradle has all that you need Arnavji. I am sorry I am being cryptic, but I have to say all I want to say. Di's cradle holds the answer Arnavji and am really sorry for letting that happen...he promised he would telk you the truth if I got you to sign the papers."Papers? What papers? Khushi-"Khushi cominued, ignoring him. " And Arnavji, one more thing... I was telling the truth on Holi and my question was genuine too." Arnav's eyes filled with tears. "It doesn't matter now. Aur hum aapse pyaar karte hain Arnavji...aap maane ya na maane... Itna pyaar ki aapke bina humari saanse ruk jaengi. Iss liye humaare paas aur koi rasta nahi hai.""Khushi, tum aise kyun baat kar rahi ho jaise hum kabhi nahi milenge? " She could hear him panicking. That did it. she began sobbing.
"Hume kuch samajh mein nahi aa raha Arnavji! Kuch theek se nahi ho raha... Aur Di-" Suddenly, the phone was gone. She looked up, towering above her was Shyam. "Phone karne ki sochiyega bhi math Khushiji!" Khushi realized he didn't know she had already been talking.
"You see Khushiji, I have planned a little surprise for Saale Saab...Soon, once he is gone, his property will be mine."
Khushi was horrified as the meaning of his words sunk in. "NO! No, you cannot kill my husband...!"
Shyam snorted. "I took on your father so why not husband?"
Khushi stared at him. "YOU? YOU did this to Babuji."
Shyam's phone rang again. "Saale Saab's surprise planners," he chuckled. He leaned close to Khushi and caressed her face; she found his touch repulsing. "Soon you shall be mine."
Arnavji's life was in danger! And she couldn't do anything about it.
There! She had found that one good reason!
She stared at the piece of glass in her hand for hours. Three days gone by since she had come here... she had talked to Arnav just yesterday. She wondered if the same thing happened when hearts broke...did they scatter like glass and did some piece or the other emain after fixing it?.. She was tired of lying... That she didn't care... Ki use Koi farq nahi padta... Farq padta tha, padta hai, aur hamesha padega... She knew without him, she was incomplete...Her ego never let her believe that... No more lies... She looked around, making sure Shyam wasn't there, she closed her eyes, and in a swift movement, brought down the shard of glass down on her wrist. A sick pain spread through her hand, as she felt a warm and silkily wet touch spurt onto her hand... She smiled weakly, her eyes closed as she imagined meeting her parents.
PRECAP: As Arnav opened the cupboard, searching for something, a red box fell out, spilling its contents. Most of them, he recognized and was again filled with pain and torture, as tears brimmed his eyes and he bent to pick up the contents of his wife's memoir box and the small momentos she had preserved from their past...
