Chapter -3

It had been few weeks since Shyam arrived and Khushi found him not being a problem. She kept going on with her work assigned by Arnav and when she was doing properly what was being allotted, why would she care about being picked? She was also glad that she could develop a rapport with her ultimate boss. She found it as a smugness to make Arnav take back his constant criticisms about her.

Shyam would call her at times asking her to bring files, to arrange them, or to forward them to the respective authorities. He had called her once to know about her without her knowing the intention and when he found her entertaining in his own perception, he kept on calling her. She would gladly do for him, as she thought he needs some assistance in inspection, when Arnav has no work for her.

But nothing missed Arnav's observation. He clearly knew Shyam was up to something to do with this girl and he also knew her being oblivious to anything happening around. He suddenly felt possessive when Shyam lingered his eyes on her when it was more than necessary and he had that sudden urge to cover her from his calculative eyes. He named it as his security to his trainee and he's responsible if anything happens to her under the official circumstances.

It was past 5 in the evening and every employee began to make their leave. Khushi was asked by Shyam to arrange the files in Archive room located at the farthest corner of the office. It was dimly lit due to the confidentiality and she worked real hard to please him.

Meanwhile, Arnav who was in his cabin found Shyam looking right to left before proceeding towards the Archive. He smelt something fishy but tried to ignore as it was not his business to indulge at. He had no family around right now, as they were living in his native, resulting him in staying office late as he had no one to look up to.

Khushi found it real heavy to lift up the broad binders as she tried to stack them up in alphabetical order. Inspection made her take away all the files to submit it to Shyam and now she was responsible in keeping them as it should go.

She tied her dupatta across her body to keep it in place and concentrated in her work. She had to read the labels very carefully in the scarcely lit room. Her hair strands kept falling over her neck and face irritating her.

She stood tip toed extending her hand up to insert a file when someone sneaked inside. She found the room fill with light and it immediately went dark again before she could see who.

'Who is that?' she called out into the darkness.

There was no answer except a hitched breath of hers. She definitely felt the presence of someone and she tried her best to stay strong.

A finger traced her collarbone as she gasped and flinched back. She threw her limbs in the darkness to catch but there was nothing to hold. She brought a hand to her chest protectively and walked back unsteadily.

There was a tug at her dupatta and before she could hold on to it, it was gone. She screamed in fear and fell loose onto a shelf her legs trembling.

'Tell me, who is there?' her voice cracked and pretended a confidence.

'Wanna know?' a whisper touched her ears while a tongue flicked her earlobe.

'Argh!' she winced in disgust and bolted towards the door when a hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her back making her crash into the hard chest.

Her back collided with the person and a palm covered her mouth as the person's face dug into her hair. Her screams were muffled and her hands tried its best to pry off the clasp around her hip. They were too strong for her and after failing her attempt, she tried to move the face away from her crook of the neck.

She let out a strangled cry when the arms squeezed her into him tightly and when the tears began to dribble down, the doors banged open streaming the room with light. The hands and the figure vanished into the darkness and she stood shivering facing the silhouette of Arnav at the door. He strode towards her and gripped her wrist.

'What did I told you and what are you doing?' he spat to Khushi, pretending to make the hidden person know that his barging was unintentional.

He gave a look deep into the darkness that churned the stomach of the person. With that, he pulled the breath-knocked Khushi out of the room and dragged to his.

Shyam wiped his forehead which formed sweat beads while he calmed himself from the arousal in the darkness of the Archive room.

Arnav made Khushi sit in the chair of his cabin.

She sat with her quivering form, her eyes blinking and tears flowing non-stop. He turned the air condition to her side and walked to her with a glass of water offering to her. She took it from him and drank it greedily trying to compose herself. She found no clue of what had just happened. She had never experienced such assault before, in fact she had never even dreamt of it. She didn't know such things could exist and it was the first time, she was facing the cruel side of the world apart from her nave world.

He sat beside her, 'Are you alright?'

She read concern in his eyes and something snapped inside. All of a sudden she found Arnav like a protective angel and it filled her with warmth. The cold feeling began to disappear and something radiated in her as she out of blue hugged him.

He felt the trembling creature hug him and it tore him. He wanted to soothe away the fear in her. Her pale face told how appalled she was. He felt like punching Shyam on his face. But it was better that he underplay his anger.

He comfortingly rubbed her back concentrated in consoling her and she rested in his arms, with her eyes closed savouring every bit of the contact to wash away the fear in her.

Both of them found the moment heavenly as a cold pair of eyes watched them both menacingly.
