Chapter Six- Tu Jaane Na''

"Na Jaane Mere Dil Ko Kya Ho Gaya
Abhii To Yahiin Thaa Abhii Kho Gayaa"
"Ho Gaya Hai Tujko", Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
New York City, United States of America
"Hello?" asked Shyam as he signed some papers.
"Sir?" replied his driver, Raju.
"Yes, Raju. What do you know?"
"Sir, I asked some people, and Khushi Ma'am and her boss, Mr. Raizada have gone on a business trip to Nainital. They were supposed to return this afternoon, but they have not yet arrived. It is almost 8:00pm now, Sir," said Raju. Shyam stood up angrily.
"Business trip, you say?"
"Yes, Sir."
"Very well. Thank you." He hung up the call and sat back in his seat, a grin spreading over his lips.
"This is working out just fine. Better then I ever thought it would," he said softly. Shyam opened his top drawer and took out his dear photo frame. He smiled at the face in the picture.
"Just wait and watch, dear. Wait and watch." He began to laugh loudly and threw the frame across the room. It hit a wall and fell to the floor, glass pieces all around it. Shyam slammed his fist on his desk.
"Arnav."
Balkar Chadda's Dhabba
Khushi was on the verge of handing over her resignation to her boss. She was also on the verge of choking him. But looking at the fact that he towered over her, it would be hard to choke him. Maybe she could suffocate him with a pillow? What was he thinking? He had really blew it during dinner. If Khushi hadn't made up that story of them meeting in a fashion show, Balkar would have certainly found out the truth. He claimed to be smart but clearly in the area of lying he was stupid. Khushi was going through all these thoughts when Arnav came out of the bathroom, wiping his hair with a towel. Khushi looked up at him and felt her jaw almost drop open. How could someone manage to look so'..incredible? Instantly, Shyam's face appeared in her mind, and she looked away.
Arnav watched as Khushi turned her back to him and stared out of the window. He shrugged and continued to dry his dark hair. He could hear the sound of bangles clinking behind him. Arnav turned around and in the process sprayed droplets of water on Khushi's face. Khushi blinked a few times and wiped them from her face while making a face at Arnav.
"Have a problem, Khushi?" asked Arnav. Khushi scowled.
"Of course not! Why would I have a problem with anything?" she asked, her voice heavy with sarcasm.
"Well'.good for you, then." Khushi made a face at Arnav again.
"Laad Governor," she muttered as she turned away. Arnav automatically reached for her arm and turned her around to face him. Khushi looked at him with wide eyes.
"What did you just call me?"
"Nothing'."
"I'm really not that stupid."
"I never said you were."
"What did you call me?"
"''.."
"Khushi?"
"Well'.um'Laad Governor?"
Arnav stared at her. "Laad Governor? What the hell does that even mean?" Khushi raised an eyebrow.
"You really don't know what that means? And you say you know Hindi?" Arnav rolled his eyes.
"What does it mean?"
"Ooo'.someone is getting impatient'" whispered Khushi. Arnav tightened his hold on her wrist and Khushi cried out in pain. Arnav let go and examined her wrist.
"Tum theek ho? I'm'." Arnav looked at her wrist and saw that he had put pressure on a bruise. Khushi nodded.
"Yes, Arnavji. I'm okay." Arnav let go of her wrist and Khushi began to rub it.
"Khushi I-" he was cut off by a knock at the door. Khushi turned around and opened the door. Lajjo was standing there.
"Namaste, aunty," said Khushi. Lajjo smiled.
"Wo, sorry beta. I came here to ask you if you could help me with something? You are the only other woman here and I need some help with cooking. You don't have to but'."
"No problem. I'm coming." It's better than sitting in this room with laad governor, thought Khushi. She smiled and followed Lajjo out of the room, giving Arnav a look as she shut the door.
Arnav frowned at the door. Laad Governor? What did that mean?
New Delhi, India
Karan and Akash watched as their wives paced back and forth in Shantivan. Surprisingly, neither woman ran into one another. They both stopped pacing finally and faced each other.
"Where is he?" cried Anjali, as she wiped at the tears flowing from her eyes.
"What if something has happened to him?" sobbed Payal.
"He is never this late!"
"What if he is unconscious in the office?"
"Oh, Payal! Did he eat?"
Karan finally stood up and put his hands up. "Stop it! Anjali and Payal-ji! Arnav must have gone to some meeting or something. You know him. He doesn't say much. Right, Akash?" asked Karan. Akash adjusted his glasses and nodded.
"Of course, Payal. Don't cry!" Payal started to cry even more and Akash awkwardly put his arm around her. Anjali put a hand to her mouth and turned to face Nani who was petting Laxmi.
"Nani, where is he?" She began to recite some random prayers while Karan rubbed his forehead.
"Akash, call Arnav again." Akash nodded and dialed his friends number. Nothing. Akash shook his head and Anjali began to cry loudly. Akash was about to dial the number again when he looked at the date on his phone. He smacked his head.
"Woops. I totally forgot, Di. Arnav had a meeting today in Nainital. Maybe he got caught up there and had to stay?" Payal looked at him.
"Now you tell us? After we are so worried?" she smacked his shoulder while Anjali managed a weak smile and tried to wipe away more tears.
"Thank God. At least we know now where he is. But why isn't he picking up the phone? Chote never does this! Akash, did anyone go with him?" Akash thought for a moment and nodded.
"Oh yeah'his new personal secretary. What was her name again''oh yeah. Khushi." Anjali nodded.
"Do you have her number?" Akash shook his head and Anjali sighed.
"Fine. But I am not going to bed until Chotte calls me." Karan looked at her.
"Wait. You want to stay here whole night?" Anjali looked at him.
"Why? Do you have a problem?" Karan rolled his eyes and put a hand on his wife's shoulder.
"Of course not. We should stay here. Nani may need someone." Payal nodded.
"We'll also stay until Arnav calls. I won't be able to sleep until he calls." At that moment, Anjali's phone rang and she looked at it quickly.
"Unknown number?" she wondered out loud. She answered it quickly.
"Hello?"
"Di?" Anjali let out a breath.
"Chotte! Where are you? You know how many times we tried to call you? And why are you calling from an unknown number? Are you okay? Talk to me chotte!"
"Di, if you stop talking, I can talk. My phone doesn't work so I am using the um'.hotel's phone. The car broke down so Khushi and me are at this hotel. And yes I am okay." Anjali instantly raised her eyebrows.
"You and Khushi are alone? At a hotel? Please, Chotte'.don't tell me that'." Akash covered his mouth to stop his laughter.
"Di! She's married!"
"I was just asking chotte'.I need to ask about such things!" Akash sat down and grabbed a pillow, laughing into it. Payal glared at him.
"Anyway, Di. I need to ask you something."
"What, chotte?" Arnav hesitated.
"Um'..what does Laad Governor mean?" Anjali began to laugh.
"Laad governor? Who called you that?" That made Akash laugh even harder and he fell off the couch while Payal began to consider divorcing him.
"No'I just heard it and didn't know what it meant so'."
"Chotte'you really are strange sometimes. It means dictator. Anyway-"
"Dictator!?"
"Yes, Chotte. Dictator. Why are you asking me this? Are you okay?"
"I'll talk to you later, Di. Take care of yourself. And tell Akash those files of Mr. Roy better be ready. And tell Payal that she can stop crying for me. Bye." He hung up.
"Chotte? Hello? Chotte?" Anjali lowered the phone from her ear.
"Is he okay, Anjali?" asked Payal, ignoring her husband. Anjali nodded and Nani quickly thanked Devi Maiyaa.
"Yes, he is okay. He asked for you to stop crying. Oh, and Akash. Why are you on the floor? Never mind'..he said that Mr. Roy's files better be ready. He will be back tomorrow." Akash stopped laughing and sat up.
"Mr. Roy's files?" Anjali nodded and Akash bit his lip.
"Mr. Roy. Right'.we better get going then, Payal. " Payal rolled her eyes and hugged Anjali.
"See you tomorrow! I cannot wait until Arnav meets Paridhi!" Anjali grinned. Payal looked at Akash who was trying to recollect where he put those files.
"Shall we go?" Akash nodded. Payal hugged Nani and Akash shook hands with Karan and both left.
"Now are you happy?" asked Karan. Anjali nodded and hugged him.
"Damad-ji'Anjali bitiya will be fully happy when Chotte agrees to marry Paridhi," said Nani. Anjali giggled.
"Hopefully, Nani. I pray that he agrees." Karan didn't say anything but hoped that Anjali was wrong. It was a matter of his 500 rupees.
Balkar Chadda's Dhabba
"Wow, beta! You can really make amazing jalebis! I can't make jalebis like these at this age!" exclaimed Lajjo as she bit into a jalebi. Screw her diet. It wasn't working anyway. Khushi smiled and continued her work. She hadn't made jalebis in such a long time. Shyam said it was a waste of time and just ordered them for her.
"Lajjo-ji! Where are my pills?" screamed Balkar. Lajjo sighed.
"Coming, ji!" She left Khushi alone in the kitchen. Khushi began to mutter to herself.
"God knows what Shyam must be thinking. He must have called home by now. And I am here. Devi Maiya'save me." She began to make more jalebis with one hand and grabbed a handful of jalebis in the other hand and began to shove them down. A faint gust of wind blew from the window and made a few piece of hair fall on her face. Khushi scrunched her nose up and tried to move them away by breathing out. No luck. She rubbed her face against her shoulder but it didn't work. She was about to put down her jalebis when she felt someone move the hair away. Khushi dropped her jalebis and turned around quickly to find herself face to face with Arnav.
"Aap? What are you doing here?" asked Khushi as she felt her cheeks turn red. Arnav crossed his arms over his chest.
"Dictator."
"Excuse me?" Arnav leaned over Khushi, planting his hands firmly down on the countertop behind her. Khushi leaned backwards, praying that she wouldn't get burnt by the hot oil.
"Laad governor. It means dictator'.right?" asked Arnav. Khushi gulped.
"Yes'.Arnavji." Arnav raised an eyebrow.
"You do know that I can fire you for saying that." Khushi looked at him with wide eyes.
"But I won't. " He straightened up and began to walk out of the tiny kitchen. Khushi put a hand over her heart which was beating fast.
Arnav stopped walking and turned his head. "By the way'..you have batter on your cheek." Khushi quickly began to rub at her cheek. Arnav smiled softly and left. Khushi smacked her forehead.
"Calm down, Khushi." She turned around and groaned as she saw the burnt jalebis in the pan.
"Stupid laad governor," she muttered as she ate another jalebi. Lajjo came back and began to sniff.
"Did something burn, beta?" she asked. Khushi nodded.
"Aunty, do you have a phone that I can borrow?" asked Khushi. She would have to call Shyam. Lajjo nodded.
"Yes. Go outside and take a left. There is a phone in that room."
"Can I call outside India?"
"Yes. There is a calling card near it. Feel free to use it, beta."
"Thank you," said Khushi.
Khushi dialed Shyam's number and waited for him to pick up.
"Hello?"
"Shyam?"
"Khushi? Where are you? I called home and no one picked up." Khushi bit her lip and quickly explained what had happened. She waited for Shyam's reaction.
"Well'..are you okay?" asked Shyam. Khushi felt her jaw drop open. She had not expected this.
"Yes'.I am okay. But are you okay?" she asked.
"Yes, I am. Khushi'I need to go. I have a meeting. I love you."
"Love you too," she whispered. Shyam hung up and Khushi put the phone down. What had happened to Shyam? Had he finally changed back into that Shyam who had stolen her heart that night in Delhi? Khushi smiled.
"Thank you, Devi Maiyaa," she said quietly. She quickly left the room.
He should have fired her immediately. But he hadn't. Why? What was so special about her? Arnav looked out the window and began to remember the words spoken by his sister, a long time ago.
"Love happens with the heart, chotte. It doesn't work like other things do. It just happens. When you see her, you cannot stop looking at her. If she is sad, nothing seems good. The thought of going away from her makes you upset."
"Di, I don't want to waste my time talking about all of this."
"One day, chotte, you will like it. One day you will like wasting your time talking about all of this."
"Yea, Di. I know. Because you think that one day that girl will come who after seeing her, I will forget everything, and so on. Now can I go?" He had walked away leaving a sad Anjali. Arnav had stopped before leaving and turned around.
"One more thing, Di. If a girl like that does come, then I will stay away from her. Because I make my decisions based on my brain. Not my heart."
"You won't be able to do that," Anjali had replied.
"Why?" Arnav had asked.
"Because if you go away from her, then you will not be able to breathe," she had replied happily. Arnav had rubbed his forehead.
"You are unbelievable, Di! I won't be able to breathe?" Anjali had nodded.
"I'll go now, Di. Or else, listening to you will will stop my breath right now." He had left, leaving a mad Anjali.
Why Arnav was thinking about this, he himself didn't know. He simply looked out the window and sighed. Maybe Di wasn't that crazy as he thought she was.

Second, if you were wondering about that Anjali-Arnav scene, it was in the show. I tried to translate it as well as I could, but the link to the actual speech is under this note. Do listen to it! It is really amazing! 👍🏼Thanks again and please comment and like! And sorry for not updating! Love you all!

Important Note:
I am seeing that many people are wondering how Khushi loves Shyam, even though he has done so much bad with her. Remember, this is KHUSHI we are talking about. Not Arnav. Khushi really loves Shyam. She refuses to see the fact that perhaps she doesn't love him, or that Shyam is a bad guy. Khushi is strange in that way. She doesn't want to accept some things. All she wants is her marriage to get better and Shyam to stay normal. Someone has to come and almost "wake her up" from this sleep (I think we all know who that will be)...think of Khushi as the current Anjali in IPKKND😊...Anjali does not want to accept the fact that Shyam is cheating on her and here, Khushi does not want to accept the fact that Shyam beats her. Hope that clears up some confusion😃

And if you are wondering why so many of my quotes are related to SRK or Sarah Dessen...I am obsessed with both. Expect more SRK quotes. And if you are a Salman fan...I do apologize. Really.
