Chapter 12She was pacing back and forth in her room, heart thumping loudly.
What the heck just happened?
Her head was pounding by the amount of thinking she was doing for the past days.
In an hour everything changed. He basically cleared her 'confusion' and built up a new tension in her.
The problem was her. She was freaking out because he said he likes her. Why does he like? How does he like her? They barely know each other'well maybe not, but still.
In her head attraction was supposed to turn into like and that into love but here he just skipped the attraction phase. He couldn't possibly have been attracted to her since the starting, could he?
"Argh! Now what are you going to do Khushi?" she asked herself.
The pull she used to feel towards him went down the drain, now she felt a strong repel. This couldn't work out so easily in so little time. She was going to take it slow. No way would her response back to his declaration be so quick.
In twenty two years of life, she could count on her fingers how many flings and crushes she had. No guy ever landed on her this fast. It made her anxious to see him, a big business man to approach her in a matter of one month.
~~~
Arnav thought their regular routine would be back but no again she had already left for work. Good sign her cup of coffee was gone. Obviously how could she leave that behind?
She clearly needed some time and space and he was going to give that to her. But that didn't mean on the side or at every opportunity he wouldn't try to make her feel what he feeling for her.
He knew what to do in the afternoon. Letting her go for now, he headed for his meetings.
~~~
Khushi was about to walk out the door when saw she him entering.
"Devi Maiyya! What is he doing here?" she cried.
"Hey" he smiled at her.
"H-heyy, what are you doing here?" she spoke through a wide toothed smile.
"Thought to pick you up"
"You could have waited outside, why'd you feel the need to come in?"
"Oh because to make sure you don't slip away" he smirked.
Oh so he knew she was avoiding him. Was that going to help the situation they were in? No idea.
They walked towards their, Arnav held open the door for her, watching her closely as she sat down.
Instead of shutting the door, he came forward bent down close to her. Khushi moved back, not liking what he was up to.
"This is for you" he whispered handing her a single sunflower.
She was taken aback by the unexpected gesture.
"T-thanks" she took it her fingers brushing against his.
He caught hold of her middle finger and stroked it with his thumb before letting go.
Khushi's breath hitched a little and she gathered herself together.
~~~
They had grabbed subs and sat on the bench looking out at the huge Michigan Lake. The gentle breeze, smell of water, and the sound of the waves splashing was so calming to their senses.
Neither uttered a word, enjoying and taking in everything from their surroundings.
Khushi was relaxed. She was grateful he had brought her here. Her mind was definitely clear now.
She didn't know what triggered it, how it happened but the next thing she knew her head was on his shoulder and tears were flowing out at a mile.
"I miss them" she tried swallowing her silent tears.
It was as if he expected this to happen, he put his arm around and pulled her close to him, letting her take out all of it that she had buried inside for so long.
Khushi left his arm and sat back up. Tears were dried on her face, she was sleepy and at ease. Her body felt so light, muscles relaxed and skin warm by his touch.
She was glad, he still hadn't let go off her.
"I want ice cream" she said quietly rubbing her eyes.
Giving her a slight smile he took hold of her hand to fulfill her wish.
~~~
"Dads an accountant at the health plus, mom is an at home wife and jiji, she is done with school and is engaged" she talked about her family, telling him tiny bits she liked and disliked about each of them.
"What about your family?" she asked, digging the spoon into her strawberry banana soft serve.
"There isn't much to them. Like I said parents died while we were still young and that made us mature and responsible from an early age. We moved in with nani and mamaji. Di is my life, I cant see myself to live without her ever. She is married and lives with us. Her husband and her actually moved back last year, they used to live in Atlanta. My cousin Akash is like my brother, I like him a lot but I think I can survive without him" he grinned at the end.
Khushi's heart went out to that little boy who had to let go of his childhood and pick up on the real world. She thanked her God, for blessing her with her life.
"What made you choose fashion?" she asked interested in him.
"Money" came the reply.
"Yeah there is a lot of competition but with the media increasing, the fashion industry hikes up as well" he explained.
"Did you ever want to be something else?" she looked at him keenly.
"No, I love what I do."
"Why do you like me?"
"Do you really want to know?"
"No"
They got up, throwing away their trash and made their way back home, hand in hand.
This was certainly going to go somewhere.
