Part 36
Kripa wiped the sweat off her forehead and tried her best to sit up but ended up moaning in pain. Her head was all bandaged up from the surgery and she could feel her head throbbing too hard. When she finally rested her back on the raised bed, she sighed with relief.
She thought about what had just happened. Two strangers had claimed to be her parents. Yet strangely, she had no memory of them. What am I doing here? She didnt remember anything from her life. But still, she remembered one name...Angad. Who is Angad? All she remembered was that he was someone that had held a special place in her life. She definitely had a deep connection with him. But what?
She closed her eyes and rested her head on the back. The bright lights in the room were putting too much pressure on her eyes. But she opened them again when she felt something touch her cheek. When she did, she saw a young man standing in front of her. He was tall and well-built. Kripa couldnt help but notice that he was just absolutely gorgeous. But who was this man?
" Do I know you?" Angad heard those words come out of Kripa's mouth and he felt his heart sink again. What was going on? He had thought that she remembered him. But now she didnt...what was happening after all? " Kripa tum mazak kar rahi ho na?"
" Kripa? mera naam....my name is kripa?" He sat down now and looked away and then right at her one more time. "Kripa kya tumhe kuch bhi yaad nahi? humare woh saath mein bitaye hue pal...kuch bhi nahi?"
" Mujhe kuch yaad nahi hain. nothing." He nodded now, almost accepting the fact that his life was almost over. She really didnt remember anything. He slowly got up and walked to the door. "I'll be right back." Before he could turn the door knob, he heard her voice.
" Wait!" Angad stopped and looked at her with a sideways glance. " I need to ask you something." He looked at her just curious. " yeah?"
" Do you know who Angad is?" His mind froze now. He couldnt think anymore. Do you know who Angad is? The words repeated themselves in his head.
" Kripa...I am Angad." she watched him leave after saying that. She felt tears trickle down her cheek but this time, she didnt know why. Maybe it was his expression of sorrow. There was definitely something wrong with him, she thought.
He's Angad?
Kripa watched the nurse take her blood pressure and then suddenly she felt the strap choking her arm. She took a deep breath and then turned her body when the nurse was finished with her check-up. " You're recovering very well Ms. Sharma." Kripa smiled as she saw the elderly nurse do the same."If you dont mind can I tell you something Ms. Sharma?" Kripa looked at her. " Sure". The nurse smiled again and took the bandage off kripa's head. " Ms. Sharma, I think you are a very lucky girl. Your parents care so much about you."
" My parents.." Kripa's mind trailed off to the incident earlier where she had yelled at them. " Yes. They were here for almost4 days straight. They were so worried about you. You must be really very special to them." Kripa smiled in her own thoughts. Maybe she was right. Her parents did seem to care a lot. But she still had one very important question in her mind. Who was Angad? She had to ask the nurse. " Um..can I ask you something?" The nurse nodded as she took out the gauze and started to put it around kripa's head again.
" Do you know who Angad is?" The nurse smiled as she cut the final piece of gauze and secured it on her head. " I knew this was going to be your question."
" Well..." Kripa rested her back on the bed again. The nurse gathered all her things and looked at Kripa. " Well..I'm not sure how he's related to you but I must say that you must be really special for him too. i mean he was also in this accident. He was unconcious for almost a whole day. He broke two of his ribs, his hand, and his leg was badly damaged. His case wasnt as severe as yours but his life was in danger at one point. He was even ready to give his blood to you but for medical reasons, he wasnt allowed to. That boy is something. He sat in front of your room for two days without even thinking about himself or anything else. I also saw him pray for you in the little temple we have here. He really must be very special Ms. Sharma. Once again, you are very lucky to have someone like this in your life who cares for you...more than he cares for himself."
Kripa thought about what the nurse had said about Angad. Something in her attracted her to him. Not only was he extremely gorgeous and good looking. But he was also a very sincere person. She smiled as she thought of him. She closed her eyes and tried to sleep but could only see his face. She opened them again smiled to herself. She sat up in her bed and wondered about what relationship angad had with her. She hoped that it was something really special.
" Can I come in?" Kripa suddenly looked at Angad as she heard his deep voice. He was standing near the door. His left hand was plastered and his other hand rested on his chest. He looked a little in pain. " Yeah." Kripa shifted her body and then sat still when she was comfortable again. " How is your arm?" Angad saw the concern in her voice. He smiled to himself and sat down next to her on a chair. " Its ok. still hurts a little but...I'll be fine. How are you doing?"
" I'll be okay." Angad saw a difference in her eyes now. She didnt look like Kripa anymore. She might not be the same person again...ever! He remembered what the doctor had told Surya. Angad had overheard their whole conversation.
" Angad?" He snapped out of his thoughts. " Angad I wanted to ask you you something."
" Yeah sure. go right ahead?" He smiled, still thinking about her.
" Angad I was surprised at myself when I screamed your name out yestrerday. I didnt know who Angad was but all I knew was that he had to be something special that I remembered him before even remembering who I was. When you came to my room, I secretly wished that you had something really important to do with my life. When you told me that you are angad...I felt like I had everything even though I didnt even know my own name."
" What do you want to ask me kripa?" She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She took his hands in hers and looked into his eyes. " Who are you Angad? and why do you keep on having such a huge impact on my life?"
He took his hand away and looked down. He felt like he wanted to die. She didnt even know why he was important to her. All she knew was that he was in some way. He managed to breathe again. " What difference does it make Kripa?"
He got up to leave but Kripa took hold of his right hand. He stopped but didnt turn. " It does Angad. I want to know why I have been feeling so attracted to you." He looked at her. Attracted...is that all? But atleast she felt that way for him without him telling her who he was. He quickly lowered himself and kissed her cheek and whispered in her ears. "I hope you will one day." She watched him leave. She smiled to herself and then ran her hand over her cheek where he had just kissed her. Now I'm even more keen to know who he is.
By the end of the week, Angad had started to spend most of his time in kripa's room. Yet, he never let her know who he really was in her life. This made her even more attracted to him. She wondered for hours why she felt like she had known him for years. Even though she didnt remember any of the time spent with him.
Kripa had finally agreed to meet her "parents". Even though she didnt recognize them, she made an effort to respect them. After all they did seem to care.
She often wondered what her life was like before the whole accident. and then sometimes she wondered what exactly had happened to her in the accident and why Angad was with her at the time. She had wanted to ask him the question many times but she knew that he wouldnt answer her. He wanted her to remember everything on her own. But she couldnt.
In the nights when she had found herself all alone, she had tried very hard to remember something..anything. But she couldnt. All she had was a huge headache from all the thinking. She just wished someone would answer her questions. She wanted to know why she was at the hospital..and also why Angad was there. She wanted to know what her life was like before this and what it was going to be like after this. She wanted to remember everything, go back to how she was in the past. But she couldnt...and this made her feel miserable. In the midst of all this, she found a little solace in Angad's company. Not that he was going to answer those questions for her but atleast he helped her take her mind off them..even if it was for a few hours.
" You're going home today?" Kripa looked at Angad who stood in front of her. " Yes. The doctor said I can go home now. My arm is almost fine but the ribs will take a while." He answered her still looking into her eyes. They were frowning.
" ok." For the first time in one week, Kripa attempted to stand on her feet. Angad looked at her and wondered what she was trying to do. Her feet touched the floor and she held onto the side of the bed for her balance. She finally got up and stood on her feet but moaned in pain and almost fell back. Angad quickly rushed to her and she fell into his arms. His eyes captivated her as always. She smiled now, almost forgetting that her head was throbbing again. He helped her stand on her feet now. But she still held onto his hand. " Do you have to leave?"
" I have no choice." He looked straight ahead as she observed his expressions. He tried to avoid her eyes. They would have made him even more miserable knowing that she didnt have that same love in them like she used to.
"What if I ask you to?" She stepped closer to him and put her arms around his waist. He didnt move. " Wont you stay then?" He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. It was hard to stand so close to the girl you loved and yet not be able to tell her that. " I...." She pressed her index finger on his lips and he didnt say anything.
" Who are you Angad?" He just looked straight forward as she pressed her nose onto his cheek. He closed his eyes one more time, trying really hard not to hold her back. He didnt feel like she was the same Kripa anymore. Not the one he had fallen in love with. " Tell me angad. why do you make my heart beat faster?"
He took a deep breath and in a single moment of fury, grabbed her shoulders and pulled her away from him. " I wish you remembered Kripa." He left her now and walked away. She watched him leave and frowned. I wish I remembered too.
"Hi Kripa!" Kripa looked at the door and saw her father standing with flowers. They were yellow roses, but she didnt remember if she had ever liked them or not. She smiled artificially as he walked in and handed her the flowers. " How are you feeling now?" She smiled again. " I'm better. How is...mom?" He smiled when he heard her speak. " She's awesome."
" Kripa i have some good news for you!" She looked at him with questioning eyes and then looked down at the flowers again. How good can this be? " You're coming home with me today. She looked up at him one more time but this time she smiled sincerely. This was good news. It had been two weeks since Angad had gone home and now it was her turn. She hadnt seen him after that day and she was upset about that. More with herself than with Angad. She knew it was hard for him to see her like this. But why? She wanted to know that.
"Home? Like angad did?" His smile turned to a frown. " Angad..yes. like Angad did." She looked away dreamily. " Dad I havent seen him for two weeks. I really miss him." She looked at her father again and then got on her feet and hugged her father. he suddenly smiled but he wasnt sure why she was doing this. " Dad I dont know what I was like before but I really want to. Can you help me?" Surya frowned now. What was Angad doing then? Wasnt he supposed to do this? He snapped back to reality again. Maybe this was supposed to be his oppurtunity to spend some time with his daughter. " Ofcourse I will." Kripa let go of him. " Thank you." She sat back on her bed and Surya just looked straight forward with an evil smile. Angad this is my oppurtunity to make sure Kripa doesnt get too close to you. and I promise that I will avenge everything you have done to my daughter. You ruined her Angad and now I will ruin you!
Kripa entered the huge Sharma Palace and looked around. "Wow this house is so beautiful." She smiled as she walked towards the window and peeked outside to look at the busy streets of Mumbai. When she turned around again, she saw a man standing in front of her. He wasnt as old as her parents. Maybe in his late 30s. He had dark and friendly eyes and his smile was also very welcoming. " Aap?"
" Welcome back Madame. If you dont remember, I am Teddy. The Butler." She giggled and he raised his eyebrow to look at her. " I love you accent." She giggled again. He looked away annoyed but then smiled to himself. She is still the same. Very naughty. He remembered the day she had brought Angad home and then smiled to himself as he walked towards the kitchen.
Kripa finally walked into her bedroom, led by her mother. " and this is your room!" She opened the door for Kripa. When she first looked at it, nothing seemed familiar. But yet there was a great comfort level in there. " Kripa you relax, I'll go make sure Teddy is making everything you like for dinner." Kripa frowned and nodded. Noticing this, Gayatri held her face. " Whats wrong Kripa?"
" Mom...I dont even remember what I used to like." Her eyes looked down now and Gayatri's eyes filled with tears. " But I do." She smiled and wiped her tears off. Kripa hugged her mother again. " youre the best mom." Gayatri was overjoyed when she heard these words from Kripa for the first time.
Kripa pushed the curtains away and looked outside her bedroom window. Perfect. She smiled as she saw the busy streets of Mumbai again. But what she didnt know was that she also saw the highway where the accident had taken place. The same accident that had ripped her off her identity.
She sat on her bed again and opened the drawers to her side table. She picked up the little black diary that was neatly placed inside it. Placing her fingers between the cover and the first page, she slowly opened it. My phone book. She smiled. This was her first step to finding out things about her own life.
She opened to the first page and saw the first name. Angad Khanna. She looked at it but didnt smile now. She was a little upset that she hadnt seen him for two weeks. He was like this stranger that had mesmerized her and then left, leaving his memories with her. She placed the phone book to the side and then walked to her closet and opened it.
She looked through all her clothes and wondered. Oh so Kripa Sharma was like this. Hmm..mini skirts, halter tops, shorts...Then she came across something that astounded her. Salwar Kameez and sarees? Nothing in the middle. either mini skirts or sarees. How can someone be like that. So extreme?
She looked around her closet to find more stuff. When her hands crossed a small drawer, she opened it carefully and looked inside. She picked up an album that lay in there. Opening the cover of it, she looked at them in shock. They were pictures of Angad and Kripa in some other city. It looked different. There was snow around them and it looked a lot less crowded. Kripa was hanging off Angad's shoulder and they were both laughing. It looked so perfect. But the question still remained...Who was he to Kripa Sharma? She flipped it to another photograph.
This one shocked her even more. This was a picture from the End of Term party where Kripa and Angad had won the best couples award. She just didnt know it. She looked at this photo. Angad was standing with her. His arms around hers as he kissed her cheek and she smiled. This made Kripa smile all over agian.
The mystery of Angad Khanna deepened as she held two photos in her hand. In one photo she saw nothing more that friendship. In the other, she saw much more than love. So who was he? She wish she knew. She placed the album back in the drawer and then looked for more things.
She came across a little red box that was neatly secured to the corner of the drawer. She pulled it out of it and stared at it for a couple of seconds. She tilted her head and slowly touched the box with her fingers and then opened it. When she saw what was inside it, she quickly closed it back. Mustering up her courage finally, she opened it again and picked up the ring that lay in it. She looked at the letters inscribed on it with diamonds. AK. What did that mean? Angad Khanna or....Angad-Kripa! She smiled unwittingly and slowly placed it on her ring finger. Perfect! She smiled once again and this time it reached her eyes. She now knew who Angad was. He was something much more than she had thought. Kripa's best friend..or her lover? She just had to distinguish between that and this time, she wasnt going to move back. She looked at the ring again.
