Usually, stories for me are no more than a source of entertainment. Sometimes, a curiosity about how other people (writers) see the world and solve problems. In this forum, I have been surprised by those who made Shyam even worse than what he was in the TV series; and by others who increased the angst factor many folds above what was showed on the show.
But from all of the stories, this is the only one that left me intrigued. This is a mean feat, as I'm no longer young and I have had a life full of experiences, including leaving in four different countries (Brazil, where I grew up; France, where I went for postgraduate studies; Germany, where I lived after married a German; and Australia, where I now live). Also, after more than two decades working in cancer treatment, as a Medical-Physicist, stories which include cancer patients/survivors often leave me disappointed.
Yet, this story left me wondering and asking further questions. And the reason is Arnav, or more exactly, the works of his mind. Here we have a very sensitive man, who went to hell after the accident of his first wife and spent years 'in mourning' (while she was in coma and after her death). Undoubtedly, some guilt about the accident may have played a major role on his emotional state. But would this man, even if he fell in love with Khushi, be able to cope with making a life with someone who had ovarian cancer? Wouldn't he leave in constant fear that the disease may return? And that he would go through the untimely loss of his wife for a second time?
I have no answer for these questions. And possibly, this is the biggest accomplishment of this story. Leaving one wondering about life . . . You got me there, Meera! Thanks for that. And I hope to meet you again, on your next story.
