Chapter Twenty Four: Let's make our Honeymoon.
Viraat and Maanvi made their way to Mumbai courtesy of his car. It was just past nine am that very same day and Maanvi started feeling extra sleepy. After all, she did have to wake up at six am to say goodbye to Padmini and Siddarth. Maanvi yawned loudly.
"Tired?" Viraat asked, glancing at her for a second before looking back at the road.
"Yes," Maanvi mumbled.
"We've got three hours before we get to Mumbai, so get your sleep okay?"
"Hm, okay. Goodnight. I mean, good morning. I mean you know!" Maanvi said frustrated before falling asleep.
Viraat laughed lightly before keeping his concentration on the car and road.
Two hours later, Maanvi woke up to the loud sounds of the traffic jam. Heavy beats from the car in front sent vibrations to the hard ground. Beeps of impatient drivers was continuous. The smell of pani puri and road stalls food lingered in the air, resulting in a loud growl coming from Maanvi's stomach.
"You're awake?" Viraat said taking a quick sip from the bottle of water.
Maanvi gestured him to pass the bottle to her and she took a big gulp of it. Maanvi noticed a tea stall and remembered that she hadn't eaten anything since last night.
"Erm, Viraat? Can we stop here? I'm hungry."
"If we stop now, we might get into another traffic jam. I'll get you some food a couple of minutes later, okay?" He told her.
"Viraat, please?" Maanvi said sweetly, fluttering her eyelids. Viraat's heart sunk, he couldn't resist those eyes!
"Maanvi, the traf –" She interrupted him.
"Please Viraat? Won't you do this for your wife?" She emotionally blackmailed him and eventually he gave in.
"Okay fine. But only because you accepted the role of my wife," He teased. Maanvi rolled her eyes.
"These days to feed yourself, you have to say anything." She said. Maanvi jumped out of the car and ran towards the tea stall. Viraat shook his head laughing, Crazy girl he thought. He parked his car safely and got out, locking it.
"Bhai, give me some tea and some biscuits." Maanvi said hungrily. She looked around the different packets and chose one.
Viraat walked towards her, "Bhai get me one as well." He said to the stall owner.
They sat down on a bench before someone served them their tea and biscuits.
"You know, drinking tea in the open air is something different." Maanvi said pouring few drops of tea into the saucer and drinking it from there.
Viraat sipped his tea from the cup, "True. But drinking tea with your wife is something different." He teased.
"You won't let that go will you?" She said.
"Nope." He said emphasising the 'P'. "And anyways, one day I'll make you my wife." He promised her grinning.
"And when that day happens, I will change my name."
"To Mrs Viraat Vadhera?"
Maanvi rolled her eyes, "No, to 'I hate Viraat'."
"Well, at least you still have my name linked," he winked.
Maanvi groaned. Viraat chuckled.
Just then a man with a portable stall went past selling fresh corn.
"Corns!" Maanvi shouted, her eyes twinkling. She ran across to the man and told him to serve her one.
"Maanvi, now you want corns?" Viraat said.
Maanvi shrugged and bit into her food. "So what? Idiot, you shouldn't deny your wife of things, it's a bad habit." She said with her mouth full.
"Oh really?" Viraat asked rhetorically.
"Yes sir, your wife is right. Whatever she wants you should give her." The man said, unknown that Maanvi and Viraat were not really married.
"You're right Uncle. Are you listening, Viraatji?" She teased.
"Maanvi, my darling patni, come on don't we have to go to Mumbai? To make our honeymoon?" He said avenging himself.
"What?" Maanvi said, dropping her corn.
Viraat ignored her and faced the man, "Uncle look at this, I'm surprising my dulhan by taking her to Mumbai, now you can't say that I don't treat her right."
The man nodded, "What a nice husband you are. Madam, you shouldn't say bad about you husband. What a kind man he is." Viraat raised his eyebrows mocking her. He gave the man extra money, for the corn and for his blessing.
"May God always keep your Jodi together." The man left leaving a confused Maanvi.
