Chapter 11- Wounds
"Where in the world did I park the car?" Khushi questioned herself while twirling the car keys between her fingers. She clearly couldn't get her mind to remember where she had parked her car. "This is all because of that Laad Governor." She kept muttering. "If our paths would have never crossed, Payal would have never lost her job, I wouldn't have abused anyone in public humiliating myself and I wouldn't be here finding my car in a god forsaken parking lot like an idiot!" She didn't even realize when she found her car. Her face instantly lit up on seeing Blush, her car. "There you are my baby! I have been looking for you for ages!" She patted the top of her car and unlocked the door. "Time to go home Blush…. away from all this mess and especially that Laad Governor!"
"How dare you Miss Khushi Kumari Gupta?"
------------------------------------
"I wonder why Khushi's taking so long to bring the car."
"Don't worry…she'll be back." Sam said reassuringly.
Payal smiled. "So Sam….have you always been into hunting?"
Sam smiled back. "Nope. Let's just say…hunting was the last thing I'd ever wanted to do. But…times change….and we have to change….. whether we like it or not. It's…it's a long story. Will tell you some time later."
"You will?"
Sam took a step closer. "Yeah….if you would like to know."
"I would love to."
---------------------------------------
"How dare you Miss Khushi Kumari Gupta?"
Khushi's head shot up and hit the rim of the door. "Ouch!" She put a hand on her head and rubbed it back and forth to stop the augmenting pain. She turned and glared at him. "Seriously? Are you on a 'Let's Torture Khushi' mission? Man…that hurt. Ow!"
"I don't care! How dare you abuse me in front of everyone?"
"Why? What about the embarrassment you put my friend through just because she forgot to put ice cubes in your drink? She lost her job for crying out loud!"
"Don't talk to me like that! Nobody talks to me like that."
"Why shouldn't I? Everybody has the right to be defensive when it comes to family. Wouldn't you do the same? Wouldn't you fight for your family….your friends? And who the hell are you to tell me what to do and what not? Laad Governor kahin ka!"
Arnav clenched his teeth as he felt his patience thinning every passing second. "Just stop it."
"Why should I stop? Didn't your parents teach you any manners? Is this how you behave with…."
That is when whatever that was left of Arnav's patience came crashing down. He strode towards her and ferociously grabbed her wrists. He pushed her against the cold pillar and pinned her wrists above her head. "I. Said. Stop. It."
His face was dangerously close to Khushi's now. A chill ran down her spine. For the first time Khushi Kumari Gupta was unable to speak. If looks could kill, Khushi would have died a thousand deaths by now. Nobody had ever held her like this before. Nobody had stood so close to her like this before. Nobody had ever dared to. But today she felt different. Was she terrified or was she nervous?
Arnav's hold on Khushi tightened and he leaned in even closer….so close that even air would have to struggle to make its way through between them. He whispered, "Don't you dare say anything about my parents. You don't know them and you never will. Don't you ever….ever question their upbringing again. I don't have my parents which is why I value them. But how would you know that? You have your parents. Their comfort. Their support. Everything. You don't know a thing about loss….what it's like to see them slowly fade away right before your eyes. You will never feel the excruciating pain in your heart. Never. So, don't you dare talk about my parents or family again."
Arnav held her wrist even tighter. Khushi's hands turned pale and she could feel the flow of her blood halt. A tear trickled down her cheek. "You…you are hurting me."
Arnav tilted his head to see their hands against the pillar. He realized that he had been holding too tight and he instantly let go. He swiftly turned his back at her and closed his eyes upon realizing that he had said a little too much about himself and Arnav Singh Raizada never lets anyone see through him.
---------------------------------
Sam leaned against the lamp post on the sidewalk. "So…..has your friend always been a hunter?"
"Khushi? Oh yeah. Always. She is a born hunter. It's in her blood. It's her passion. The only thing her parents left behind for her. The passion for hunting."
"Left behind? Where are her parents? Are they…"
"Dead. Died while hunting. Her father's best friend was kind enough to take her in." Payal whispered. Sam noticed the change in Payal's tone. The grief and pain for her friend evident on her face. He tried to digress from the topic. "Ummm….Payal…I think Khushi's gone for too long now. We better go check."
"Yeah. We should." Payal agreed. She was stepping down the pavement when she felt her ankle twist and her foot slip. Sam instantaneously put his arm around her petite waist to prevent her from falling while Payal wrapped her arms around his broad chest to keep herself steady.
"Hey….it's OK. You're OK. Don't worry." Payal opened her eyes and looked up. They stood that way, safe in each other's warmth for what felt like ages.
"OK Romeo and Juliet. If you two are done enacting your love scene…how about we head back to the motel?" Sam and Payal turned to notice a frustrated Dean standing by the entrance to the bar. An embarrassed Payal pulled away from Sam's embrace, her cheeks a flush of pink. Sam ran his fingers through his light brown hair. "Yeah Dean. Let's go. Where is Arnav?"
Dean shrugged his shoulders. "Don't know. He stormed out of the bar through the back door five minutes ago. Looked like he was surely gonna kill someone."
Payal started biting her nails. "Oh my god! What if Arnav and Khushi are fighting again……in the parking lot? We must go and check!"
She looked up. Sam caught the glint of hope in her eyes when she would see him. He placed an assuring hand over Payal's shoulder. "Don't worry. Let's go."
-----------------------------------------------
"I….I am sorry. I can understand. I didn't mean to hurt yo…."
Arnav turned to face her. "Please. Save it Khushi. I don't need this melodrama."
"But….I didn't know about your paren…."
"I said ENOUGH!"
Khushi flinched at his loud voice.
"Arnav!"
"Khushi!"
Sam, Payal and Dean came running towards them. Sam and Dean observed the tension coiled between the two. Without further delay, they pushed Arnav inside the Impala. They couldn't afford any more arguments. Sam and Payal nodded at each other before the three drove off.
Payal could feel Khushi shiver as she held her. The color from her face had drained out and her tears wouldn't care to stop. She shook Khushi to bring her back to her senses. "Khushi! Khushi! What happened? Did he…did he do something wrong? Khushi…… speak up!" Payal noticed her friend's bruised wrists. "Did he do this? Khushi? Let's go back home. We need to put some ointment on that." She carefully seated Khushi inside the car and shut the door.
Khushi touched the skin of her wrists that were slowly turning a shade of purple. He had bruised her body. But she was terribly hurt. He had left a thousand….incurable wounds all over her soul. And it would take a long time to heal.
