Chapter 10- Start of Something New
"YOU!"
"YOU!"
They both shouted in unison, their fingers pointed at the other accusingly.
Khushi's eyes were set to pop out of her sockets and Arnav's head was ready to burst. He buried his face in his hands while Khushi tried pulling her hair off her roots. If it wasn't for Payal stopping her, Khushi would have definitely been bald by now.
Dean, who was in the middle of gulping down a big bite of his grilled cheese burger, spat the piece out. Sam's drink shot right out his mouth and onto Dean's handsome face. "Sammy!" He cried out disbelievingly as he gathered a pile of tissues and began wiping his face.
Arnav raised his face from his hands and frowned at Khushi. "Are you following me...you...you amateur hunter?"
Khushi's mouth formed a wide O. "Amateur? Did you just call me an amateur hunter? Ha! Is that why I solved the case before you yesterday? You...you...hot headed maniac?"
"Don't talk to me like that. Nobody talks to me lik.."
Dean got off his stool and went over to Khushi in hope of lightning the atmosphere but didn't realize...he had actually made it worse. He show- cased his killer smirk. "Shakespeare? What are you doing here?"
"Ask your friend about that! He is the reason we are here!"
Arnav's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Me? What did I do?"
Sam butted into the conversation. "Yeah. What did he do? And who is we?"
Khushi pushed Payal forward. "My friend. Your stupid friend got my best friend fired just because she didn't put two freakin' ice cubes in his freakin' drink to calm his freakin' mind!"
Dean smiled. "Woah! That's a lot of freakin'!"
Arnav glared at Dean while Sam stood puzzled. "Ummm...what are they talking about? Arnav? You got her friend fired? But when?"
Khushi heaved a sigh of relief and smiled at Sam. "Finally! The sane one steps in! You know...I knew it right from the beginning...you are the only normal one out of the lot! Yeah...so...your partner's love for ice cubes cost my friend her precious job! And neither I nor my friend will take that shit from anyone!" She pointed her finger at Arnav. "Especially not him!"
Dean leaned in and whispered in Sam's ear. "Dude. She is the one I was talking about. The bar tender chick. Damn! I tried so hard...but she won't give me her number!"
Sam turned and looked at Payal. He couldn't help but stare. She was without doubt, one of the most beautiful women he had come across in months. Her long luscious dark brown hair cascaded down her back. Her big hazel eyes were laced with worry and tension. She nervously kept chewing her bottom lip. Arnav and Khushi's bickering pulled him out of his sweet reverie. He rolled his eyes and placed his hand on Arnav's shoulder. "Arnav. Apologize and let go. It was your fault. She lost her job unnecessarily." Payal smiled slightly at Sam.
Arnav shrugged Sam's shoulder and looked at him incredulously. "My fault! It is not my fault that she wasn't able to follow orders properly. And Arnav Singh Raizada never...mark my words...never apologizes!"
"Arnav?! You...you are Indian?! How didn't I notice that before? No wonder! You do have Indian looks."
Dean laughed. "That is how Arnie is. He doesn't let anybody know anything about him. But Shakespeare...why do you sound so surprised?"
"It's Khushi. Quit calling me Shakespeare. And I am an Indian too."
"Oh."
Khushi furiously turned to face Arnav yet again and sneered. "In that case...kutte...kameene...teri himmat kaisi hui meri dost...Khushi Kumari Gupta ki dost ko sabke samne bezat karne ki? Devi Maiyaa ki kasam...chodungi nahin...dekh lungi!" With that said, Khushi grabbed Payal's hand and stormed out the bar, leaving behind a flabbergasted trio of brothers.
Arnav tightened his stubbled jaw while Sam and Dean stood perplexed. After what seemed like ages of stunned silence, Dean spoke. "Ummm...what did she just say Arnie?"
Arnav gritted his teeth and muttered, "Dean. This might be the last time I am warning you. Don't. Call. Me. Arnie. Again!"
They were so involved in their arguing that they didn't notice Sam slip through the crowd and exit the bar.
-----------------------------------
Sam couldn't tolerate the constant arguing between Arnav and Dean. He needed some fresh air. He slipped through the crowd and made his way out the bar, surprised to see the same girl standing alone on the pavement. He didn't know why...didn't know how...his feet automatically made its way towards her.
"He...hey..."
Payal was waiting for Khushi to bring the car from the parking lot when someone called behind her. She jumped in shock and looked back.
"Relax. It's me."
Payal rested her hand on her heart. "Oh..."
There was an awkward silence between the two for a few seconds.
"I am..."
"I am..."
They began at the same time and then smiled.
"You first." Sam said.
"Ummm...I...I am really sorry for all that happened inside. Khushi shouldn't have talked to your friend like that. Actually...she is pretty overprotective when it comes to me. I apologize on her behalf."
"Nah. You don't have to be sorry. It wasn't her fault alone. She was doing what any other friend would do. Arnav shouldn't have done what he did. I apologize on his behalf. He...he has a very bad temper."
"Yeah. I noticed that. It's OK." Payal couldn't help but admire him. It was impossible how someone could be appealing to such an extent. She was mesmerized by the mischievous dimples that studded his cheeks when he flashed a smile, his grayish blue eyes and the flop of sandy brown hair that lazily drooped over his forehead.
"Thanks. I am Sam." Sam held his hand out.
Payal smiled and shook his hand. "And I am Payal."
