Unusual Resemblance
Melissa was there sitting on the couch in the corner of her spacious room. The room was dark. There was only a dim light, right on her head focusing on her iPad in her lap. She was absorbed in flicking the pictures. There were clear signs of grief in her eyes. Each tick of the clock made her nostalgic. Tears were rolling down her cheek through the numb staring eyes. Her concentration broke with the sound of footsteps approaching her. She moved her eyes to locate the source of the sound. Her eyes found familiar black stilettos. Still unaware of the reason of the resemblance, she raised her eyes up to identify a black dress. She was amazed to fix her eyes on a bright glowing face she had pined for so long. However, this time her face had an unusual earthly look. Her eyes started sinking in the dazzling light coming from her mother's eyes. She could see beams of light emerging through her eyes. She was soon transported into another world with familiar surroundings. Melissa was driving aggressively. She was sure that fighting with her mom that day to let her out late at night and drink was right. She recalled the scene- mom convincing her not to drink at the age of 17, while she was shouting in order to drown her voice. Mom was at her best trying to make her understand that this wasn't her age to drink. However, she shrugged her shoulders and moved out in the car she got on her last birthday. Her mom tried to follow her and reached the pub. She was highly depressed and broken to see her daughter drunk. Melissa was drunk yet she went and sat in the car and was ready to drive. She drove crazily towards the gate. She was so driven by fury that she didn't even notice a child right there at the gate. Her mom was aghast as she saw the terrified child and, her daughter driving intensely! She shouted on top of her voice to stop her daughter; but all in vain, Melissa could not hear anything. The thought of seeing her daughter behind the bars, urged her mother to jump to save the child. That moment changed everyone's life. The little child on the road got a fresh lease of life, the mother saw her deathbed and a rich 17 year old learnt about a life without love, heart, care and motherly friendship. Today, she saw the same love and warmth in those adorable eyes. Finally, coming back in the present she spoke up, "Mom why did you leave me alone in this world? Dad is also very lonely. He cries softly every day. Mom, I promise I won't fight anymore for anything. I just need your love... Please be with me now! Don't leave me in this darkness. Today when I have lost you, I have realised all that I had in you." Her mom was still polite, "No dear!! Don't be sad. I'm always with you, in your heart." She was still numb. "But, mom, I need you! I need you besides me to correct, help and love me. Please don't leave me alone this time; else I'll lose all hope," saying this she ran to hug her but, she all she did was pushing and pulling hands in the air. Her mother had gone...forever. Only her voice was there. "You are a now a good daughter dear! A very good daughter, who has learnt a lot. I'm always with you in your heart to correct you!"
