Hi guys thanks for all the likes and comments. Thanks Thanks and thanks. Can't stop saying it.
Chapter 49
Arnav had been shooed away to another room by Anjali and Lavanya who had come to deck up Khushi.
Arnav waited like a new bridegroom waiting to see his lovely bride. He had not seen her in bridal get up from the day of their suhaag raat. He winced in pain at the memory of what had happened then..
He had shattered so many dreams...both his own and hers.
Dreams of an engagement and happy courtishp,
Dreams of marriage and celebrations,
Dreams of suhaag raat and honeymoon...
Most of all he had destroyed her dreams...because he knew Khushi was a dreamer like no other. Like a kid she was so romantic at heart..He closed his eyes in regret...Would he ever forgive himself about what he had done? Probably never.
"Chote," Anjali di's voice broke into his reverie.
"Go and see Khushi ji. I promise to wake you up if you faint,' she winked and disappeared.
When he went into the room, his eyes drank in the vision of the beautiful woman in front of him...his wife. His heart swelled with pride.
She was absolutely stunning today with her beautiful red and gold kehenga, her long nose ring, her tiara, her dangling earrings...and most of all the baby bump.
The baby bump made him feel a thrill, because it reminded him this beautiful woman belonged to him body and soul.
He reached out and held her around the waist, not that it was possible nowadays due to her widening belly.
"You look beautiful," he whispered close to her ears for which she blushed like a new bride, something which still amazed him.
"Thank you," she said shyly, "credit goes to Lavanyaji and di," she said.
"Credit goes to God for making you so beautiful. And I can't accept a verbal thank you, not done at all," he teased.
"Oh. Do you want something?" she asked nervously but coyly which was answered by a mischievous glin in his eyes.
"Hmm. Let's begin with at least a kiss," he said.
"No, my lipstick will be smudged. It took a long time to apply perfectly," she teased back.
"Ok how about you kissing me?" he teased.
"Same point," she replied.
"Not fair Mrs Raizada, apply your lipstick again. Your husband is not going to listen to any reason,' he said and bent down to kiss her lips.
When Arnav brought her down, many guests had already arrived. she held his hand tightly, as she felt a little nervous being the centre of attention.
Arnav had eyes only for Khushi today. The way she smiled at each guest, the way she nervously glanced at elders...and the way she stole glances at him secrety, all the while.
Again a stab of pain gripped his heart, with the thought that this was one of the first public rituals for her. Her marriage had been such a dismal one...
As if echoing his thoughts he heard a couple of ladies from his Naniji's circle of friends talking,
"She is so beautiful, no wonder he married her impulsively," Lady 1 said.
"She used to work in their house before that. Do you think Arnav compromised her or seduced her and had to marry her? She is not of his class, you know," Lady 2 said.
"Oh I don't think so. She is pretty enough to marry without any reason. And she is a sweet girl too," Lady 1 said.
"Still, who knows what happened. The marriage was sufdden. After all this Arnav was engaged just a few days before all this happened. Why did he suddenly break it? Why did he run away and marry when he is so powerful. Hmm. Something is wrong," Lady 2 said.
Arnav was about to come out from behind the pilliar from where he had been watching Khushi and the ladies had not seen him. But he stopped.
Only today he realized, he could never undo the harm done to Khushi's reputation no matter how hard he tried...people would always talk and wonder and whisper because in this society any breaking of social norm was fronwed upon...
His eyes brimmed with unshed tears, watching his pretty wife, who did not know what was being talked about her...because of him! Why had he done this to the woman he loved the most in this world? Why hadn't he stopped to think about her for just a few minutes before forcing her into marriage?
And to think she had just forgiven him...so easily!
Again his heart swelled with love for her...he did not know how he could ever undo old mistakes and still he made new ones and still she loved him...
Khushi glanced across the room at Arnav standing in his typical style with his arms folded. He looked sad and very upset about something. She raised her eyebrows at him. But he shook his head and smiled.
But she had to go to him. Probably he was feeling guilty about how she had been cheated out of a proper marriage ceremoney like this God bharai ceremoney...she knew he was feeling it
She knew him well. He made mistakes but when it was about her, he almost went mad with grief with what he had done.
Moving away from the circle of ladies she walked up to him and said," Don't be sorry,"
"What about?' Arnav asked.
"About our marriage and your regret about it,' she said.
"How did you know?" he asked.
"I just know you Arnav. You will never stop blaming yourself. But don't. It's bad for our future if you carry the guilt of the past.
I am more than happy to be just your wife, it doesn't matter how it happened. Just that it happened," she said and held his hand. Since they were behind a pilliar she went ahead and hugged him.
"A kodak moment," came NK's voice followed by loud cheering from La,
"Yes ASR and Khushi we caught you red handed. Couldn't you wait till this function ended?" La teased making Khushi blush.
"And it is here in my camera. I will put it up in Facebook with the heading 'Behind the pilliar romance," NK said.
"You won't dare," ASR fumed.
"Try me," NK continued.
"No way. That was our private moment," ASR continued.
"Ok chill bro! I was kidding. By the way Khushiji did I tell you, I have never seen someone as pretty as how you look today, in all my life," he grinned. Arnav gave an exasperated grimace and tugged Khushi closer.
"Thank you Nanheji," Khushi said.
La gave a puzzled look at NK. Did NK have a crush on Khushi? Somehow it left her feeling uncomfortable...
Karan made an appearance for the God Bharai dinner. He had wanted to skip the function to avoid Anjali. But he had to come for Arnav or that's what he told himself.
His eyes searched for Anjali. There she was ... a vision in pink ...looking so beautiful today in her finery of jewels.
Anjali saw Karan enter, looking like a man lost in a crowd. Apparently he was not a social person. She wanted to go and put him at ease. But she stopped herself
She was not going to leave herself open to being ignored again.
So, much to Karan's surprise Anjali who had seen him and begun to smile, walked away in the opposite direction, leaving Arnav to greet him and make him comfortable...
