CHAPTER 38.KYA HUMEIN ARNAVJI SE PYAAR HUA HAI?

Place - Khushi' room at Buaji's House

Hum bhi buddhu hain! Kya kya baatein lekar baith jaate hain. Ab dekho! Arnavji ke baare mein soch sochkar hum raat bhar soye nahi. Aur aaj jab humaari sabse achchi saheli Devi Maiyya ki pooja hai, humein bistar se uthne ka dil hi nahi kar raha. Hey Arnavji! Humaari raksha karna! Hey Devi Maiyya! Humne yeh kya keh diya? Devi Maiyya ki jagah Arnavji ka naam le liya! Hum paagal ho chuke hain! Buaji theek kehti hain. Humaari sanak khisak gayi hain! Chal uth Khushi bitiya aur kaam pe lag! Khushi got up from the bed tired of sleeplessness which plagued her last night due to her thoughts going round and round around her Arnavji!

It was Thursday and as per Khushi's plan, she had to attend a pooja in the afternoon. She had even taken a leave for it. After freshening up and praying to her Devi Maiyya, she prepared her bed. As she folded her chaddar (bedsheet), she was reminded of the first time she met Arnav. Hum bhi kya kya sochte rehte hain? Woh humein chhed rahe the, humaara mazaak udaa rahe the aur hum unhein kya kya samajh baithe. Hum toh unse poori tarah dar gaye the. Woh bhi soch rahe honge kya bewakoof ladki hai! Kitna darti hai! She laughed at her own stupidity. Aur woh daraavna sapna jisme humne Arnavji ko pishaach (Vampire) ke roop mein dekha tha! Hey Devi Maiyya hum bhi kya kya sochte rehte hain! Aur humaara dimaag bhi kya kya khayaali pulao pakaata rehta hain! She smiled at she remembered his stare. Then she blushed as she remembered his words, 'Khushi? Kiski Khushi? Meri Khushi? Tum meri ho?' She giggled as she mumbled unknowingly, "Aapki Khushi!" She sighed as she remembered as she remembered her fear. Humein kya pata tha ki woh itne achche honge. Unke kaale kapde aur gusse waali aankhon ne toh humein dara hi diya! She again blushed as she remembered his words, 'Kyon chodoon? Mujhe tum meri baahon mein achhi lagti ho.' She sat on the bed as her heart started to beat faster. She closed her eyes only to remember his right hand on her waist. She suddenly touched her waist where he had gripped her that night. She could almost feel his touch. She shivered and took deep breaths to calm her heartbeat. "Sanka Devi! Hum Gauri ke ghar ma madat karne jaavat hain. Tum aaram se tayyaar hokar aa jaana. Theek hai!", her Buaji's words brought her out of her Arnavji's world. "Ji Buaji!", she shouted back. She shook her head and wandered off to the kitchen. Khushi bitiya! Tum paagal ho gayi ho!

Khushi entered the kitchen to make tea. As she put tea powder into the boiling water, she remembered their fight. Humaara dimaag bhi kya kya sochta hai? Unhein daraane ke liye kitni badi nautanki ki humne aur phir bhi unhonein humaari jaan bachaayi! Woh kitne achche hain aur hum unke baare baare mein kya kya soch rahe the! She smiled and shook her head at her naivity. As she poured milk into the boiling tea, she remembered how she had chocolate milk with him in the coffee house. She frowned as she remembered that it was the time when she came to know about his diabetics. Bas Arnavji! Ab jab bhi koi tyohaar aayega hum aapke liye sugar free waali mitthaaiyaan banaayenge! Yeh humaara waada hai aapse! Aapka bhi haq banta hai meetha khaane! Aur yeh haq koi bhi aapse chheen nahi sakta! Diabetics bhi nahi! As she got the tea down from the stove and poured it into the tea cup through a filter, she was reminded of Arnav's antics. Har Sunday aata hai aur Arnavji ek naya bakheda khada karke jaate hain! She giggled as she remembered the basket of bangles he had brought for her. Then she remembered another Sunday when she had kissed him on the forehead stating about hisaab baraabar. She hit her head from behind. Hum bhi kabhi kabhi kya kya harkat kar jaate hain? But she had a smile on her face. Then she remembered another Sunday when he had ignored her. She shook her head. Agar aisi harkat aapne ab ki hoti na, Arnavji, hum aapko maar hi daalte! Then she remembered the Sunday where he had claimed that he missed her while talking with her in the phone. Agar aaj aap humein yeh kehte toh hum bhi aapko kehte ke I miss you too Arnavji! She shyly smiled and took her tea to the living room.

Khushi placed the tea on the table and waited for it to cool a bit. She frowned as she remembered Arnav's 'gaay ki poonch' comment. She looked at her plaited hair. Itni buri bhi nahi hai! Then she remembered how he had laughed for the first time in her presence. Ekdum Salmanji Jaise! Nahi Salmanji se bhi achche! Woh kya kehte hain? Haan! Ekdum Handsome! She giggled at her thoughts. Aaj pata nahi kyun Arnavji aap har waqt humaare khayaalon mein aa rahe hain! Somewhere in Delhi a certain ASR had hiccups and his Di, while giving him water, commented that someone must be remembering him!

Khushi frowned as she remembered Arnav's words in the mandir, 'Mujhe Bhagwan pe Vishwas nahi!' She closed her eyes as she remembered the pain in his eyes. Kyun Itna Dard tha aapki aankhon mein Arnavji? Kyun? Ek din hum iss dard ko jaroor door kar denge aur aapko Devi Maiyya pe phirse vishwas karna sikhaayenge! She suddenly blushed as she remembered the saree he had gifted her. Kaash hum unhein ek baar pehenke dikha paate! Ek din hum woh bhi karenge! She was lost in her thoughts about her Arnavji! She remembered his hug when she told him about her parents. She smiled sadly. Aisa kyun laga uss waqt ki aap humaare dard ko samajh sakte hain? Par phir hum samjhe ki aap bhi usi dard se gujre ho! She shyly smiled as she remembered their hug in the rain. She unknowingly started singing, "Koi Dil Bekaabu kar gaya aur Ishqaan bhar gaya!" She giggled. Suddenly, his words flashed into her head, 'Tumhein kuch ho jaata toh? Mera kya hota tumne socha hai kabhi. Main marjaata tumhare baghair Afreen. I would not have survived.' She frowned. Kya sach mein Arnavji humaare baghair nahi reh sakte the? Kya kal Soniji sach keh rahi thi?

Khushi picked up her tea and sat on the sofa. As she took a sip, she remembered her conversation with Soni. She had called her up asking why Arnav called her his wife and why she was so important to him? She had poured out all the confusion she had felt about Arnav and the reply she got shocked her to her core, "Tumhaare Arnavji tumse pyaar karte hain, buddhu." She had asked Soni how she had known and Soni had giggled and replied, "Kyunki tumhaare Arnavji ki harkatein mere Maan ki harkaton se milti hai." Khushi had claimed it as nonsense to which Soni had replied, "Jo Sach hai Woh Sach Hai. Arnavji ke shakal par likha hai." Khushi had very naively asked Soni when she had seen Arnav and Soni had replied, "Oye Ghadhi! Yeh kehne ka tareeka hai! Tumhaare Arnavji ke harkaton ke baare mein kisiko bhi kehdo, sab tumse yahi kahenge ki unhein tumse pyaar hain." Khushi sighed as his words from the rainy night again flashed through her head again, 'Tumhein kuch ho jaata toh? Mera kya hota tumne socha hai kabhi. Main marjaata tumhare baghair Afreen. I would not have survived.' Was Soni right? Kya Arnavji ko humse pyaar hua hai? She sighed as she remembered the reply Soni gave when Khushi had asked her, "Humein itni Khushi kyun hui jab Arnavji ne humein unki patni bataaya?" Soni had sighed and replied, "Mein har cheez tumhein nahi bata sakti Khushi! Kuch cheezein tumhein khud samajhni hogi!"

Place - Gauri's House at Laxminagar

The pooja had begun but for the first time Khushi's heart was not into it. Her mind and her heart were on her feelings and Arnavji's behaviour. Kya Arnavji humse pyaar karte hain? She remembered Arnav's worry when she had gotten hurt. Kya sach mein hum aapki zindagi ban chuke hain, Arnavji? She remembered the time they spent together in the mela. Her breath stopped as she remembered he had won her Jhumka just because she liked it. Koi pyaar karne waala hi aisa karega na? Phir woh choodiyon ki tokri khareedna kyunki humein choodiyaan pasand the aur woh telescope laana taaki hum apne amma buaji ko dekh sake! Hey Devi Maiyya! Lagta hai Arnavji shaayad humse pyaar karte hain! Soniji sahi kehti hain. Arnavji ki harkatein bilkul ek pyar karne waale ke jaisi hain. The pooja got over but Khushi did not notice. Soon, Buaji came over and brought her out of her thoughts. As Khushi walked with her Buaji to her house after having lunch at Gauri's house, she sighed. Shaayad Arnavji humse pyaar karte hain!

Place - Khushi's room at Buaji's House

Khushi went to sleep the moment she lied on her bed as it was only afternoon and she had not slept a wink last night. But the moment she slept, she was pulled into a dream. She was dressed in a red saree, wearing mangalsutra and sindoor, holding a sieve and staring through it at the moon and it was night all around. She turned and faced Arnav and looked through the sieve at his face. Then she did his Aarti and touched his feet. He smiled at her and picked up the glass of water and she drank from it. He fed her a piece of mitthaai. She shyly smiled at him. He came closer to her and kissed her forehead. She hugged him tightly and he hugged her back. He whispered, "I Love you, Afreen!"

Khushi sat up with a jerk as soon as she had the dream. She had imagined it in the dhaaba too when he had fed her water. Yeh humein sapne mein karvachauth kyun aa rahe hain? Kyun hum apne aapko Arnavji ki patni ke roop mein dekhte hain? Kyun hum Khush hue jab unhonein humein unki patni bataaya? Hey Devi Maiyya! Humein kuch samajh nahi aa raha! Even Devi Maiyya must be slapping her forehead for having such a nasamajh follower!

Khushi got up from her bed and looked outside the window. Arnavji ki gutthi (puzzle) to sulajh gayi lekin humaare mann ki gutthi kaun suljhaaye? She sighed. She remembered how bad she had felt when Arnav had praised Sasha's hair in front of her. She remembered how worried she had been when Arnav had the sore throat. Hum kabhi kisike liye itne pareshaan nahi hue jitna hum Arnavji ke liye hue the. She remembered the two kisses he had given her in the car and the feelings she had felt at his touch. Humein kya hua hai? Koi toh bataaye! As she was assaulted with the feelings she felt that night, her heart began to beat faster and she swallowed. Yeh kya hua hai humein? Humaare liye aapki hasi itni ehmiyat kyun rakhti hai? Aap humaari zindagi mein kya maayne rakhte hain? Aapko kuch hojaaye yeh humein kyun bardaasht nahi hota? Hum kyun aapki zindagi mein shaamil hone ke sapne dekhte hain? Kyun? She remembered how she had worn red just because he liked it. Suddenly a thought struck her head. Phir toh hum bhi unse pyaar karte honge na! Kyunki hum bhi unke baghair jeena soch bhi nahi sakte! Aur unhein kuch hogaya yeh hum seh nahi sakte! Aur woh humein bahut pasand bhi aate hain! Aur jaise woh humse mile baghair bechain hote hai, utni hi bechaini humein bhi mehsoos hoti hai! Aur jaise woh humaari Khushi ka khayaal rakhte, hum bhi unhe khush karne ki poori koshish karte hai! Agar ise pyaar kehte hain toh shaayad humein bhi…..Suddenly, she realized what she was thinking and she sucked in her breath. Kya hum bhi Arnavji se…..Nahi! Yeh nahi ho sakta! Phir kyun humein lagta hai ki humpar humse jyaada unka haq hai? Kyun ab unke baghair jeena ke baare mein sochte hue bhi darr lagta hai? Kya hum sahi soch rahe hai Arnavji? Kya hum sahi soch rahe Devi Maiyya? Kya hum bhi unse? Koi ishaara do humein Devi Maiyya! Bas ek ishaara kaafi hai!

Khushi suddenly lost her balance and to stop from falling, she tried to catch hold of the table. But instead of touching the table, her hand hit the radio and the radio switched on. Khushi fell down and her head hit the bedpost. She yelped. The music of piano filled the air and Khushi pouted. She sat on the floor and rubbed her head.

Khushi's eyes widened. Kya humein Arnavji se pyaar hua hai? Hey Devi Maiyya!

As the notes of guitar floated in the air, Khushi lied on the bed on her stomach. She closed her eyes as she felt sad. She was in love! Suddenly a thought struck her. Hum udaas kyun hai? Humein toh khush hona chaahiye! Humein pyaar jaisa ek khoobsurat sa ehsaas hua hai! She smiled happily. Arnavji aapne humein itne pyaare se ehsaas se milaaya iske liye dhanyawaad! She smiled giddily as she realized that Arnav also loved her. She got up from the bed and twirled round and round. Suddenly, her eyes locked into the mirror. She saw Arnav smiling from behind. She whirled around but the room was empty. She looked back at the mirror. Arnav was still standing there. He winked at her and she blushed and looked down shyly.

It was evening and Khushi got up from her deep sleep. Once her thoughts had cleared up, her mind decided to catch up on sleep. She blushed as she remembered her dream. In her dream, it was few months after her and Arnavji's marriage and she had come over to stay at her Buaji's for few days. In her dream, Arnav had sneaked into her room through the window because he could not sleep without her. They both had hugged each other and she had gone to sleep with her head on his chest. Hey Devi Maiyya! Pyaar mein log paagal hote hain, yeh suna tha! Aaj mehsoos bhi kar liya! She giggled as she remembered Soni's words, "Mein har cheez tumhein nahi bata sakti Khushi! Kuch cheezein tumhein khud samajhni hogi!" Ab hum samjhe ki Soniji humse kya kehna chaahti thi! Hum kal hi Soniji se milenge aur unhe bataayenge ki humein pyaar hua hai! She blushed again at the thought.

Khushi smiled excitedly and looked up to thank Devi Maiyya for making her feel the wonderful feeling of love when her eyes fell on the clock. It was 6 o'clock. She closed her eyes to pray when her eyes opened in shock. Hey Devi Maiyya! Che baj gaye! Arnavji humaara intezaar kar rahe honge! She got up and looked around. Ab hum kya karein? Humein toh kuch samajh nahi aa raha! Haan! Hum buaji se jhoot bolenge ki Office se call aaya! Haan! Yeh theek hoga! Itne jhoot bole hain yeh ek aur sahi! She started to choose her clothes. Hey Devi Maiyya! Hum late hogaye toh aa jaayenge Rakshas ke phone call! Where the hell are you Dammit? Khushi imitated Arnav mentally and sighed. Ya toh kahenge What the! Ya toh kahenge Unbelievable! Inhein aur aata kya hai? Hey Devi Maiyya pyaar karwaana hi tha kisi aise insaan se karwaate joh thoda toh sabar kare! Woh kya kehte hai? Haan! Thoda patience rakhe! Par nahi Impatience toh Arnavji ka doosra naam hai! Ek toh sabar nahi aur har waqt Order karna! Aur kya aata hai inhein. Hey Devi Maiyya! Suddenly she stopped her internal grumbling and sighed. Suddenly Khushi's phone rang and she looked at it. It was Arnavji. She gulped as her heart began the beating marathon and her stomach started the somersaults. Her legs shook and her face paled. She picked up her phone and squeaked, "Hello?" "Khushi! Where the hell are you Dammit?" Hum sahi the! She thought and smiled. But what to tell him? Chal Khushi! Buaji ko itna jhoot bola hai ab Arnavji se jhoot bol le! She cleared her throat but her voice seemed stuck. She cleared it again and squeaked, "Woh Arnavji hum…" Suddenly, an idea came in her head and she smiled happily, "Hum mandir mein hai. Raat bhar yahin rahenge. Jagraata hai! Aap aayenge Arnavji?"She heard him say 'What the!' and shut her mouth with her hand as she muffled her giggles. "Toh tum mujhse nahi miloge?", he nearly growled. She gulped and prayed to Devi Maiyya to save her. "Hum buaji ke saath hain. Please humein samajhne ki koshish kijiye!" She nearly pleaded with him.

Place - Outside KC

Arnav sighed. He would have demanded her to come but her pleading voice touched his heart. "Fine!" He growled.

Place - Buaji's House

Khushi smiled. Aap bahut achche hain, Arnavji! Suddenly a thought crossed her mind and smiled cheekily. "Waise Arnavji jab tak hum aapse na milein aap ek kaam kijiye." "What?" she heard him say. "Aap apne phone mein humaari photo ko dekhte rahiye aur aahein bhariye." She heard him say "What the!" and she giggled and cut the phone.

Song Details: The song is from the movie Ishq Vishq released in 2003. It was picturised on Amrita Rao and sung by Alka Yagnik. When Arnav realized his love the song was 'Iss Pyaar Ko Main Kya Naam Doon', and when Khushi realized her love the song is 'Kya Isko Hi Kehte Hain Pyaar'. Both the songs have questions in them. What a coincidence!

SURPRISE! Shocked with this update, right! Actually even I am shocked! I was typing the chapter and I did not even realize when the chapter came to an end! I had actually planned to take tomorrow off from writing but then I got an idea! Today is DFL's 3 month anniversary! So why not update this chapter as a celebration!
