After the Confession
Part 4:The reveal
"Haan, main sab jaanta hoon tumhare aur Shyam ke rishtey ke baare mein..." 'Yes, I know everything about your relationship with Shyam..." his voice echoed in the atmosphere...Khushi's eyes widened with fear...with surprise...she almost choked on the lump in her throat... she froze... Arnav still had his strong hold on both her shoulders... His eyes had turned stone hard... anger, disgust and confusion...if he could burn her down just with his stare, she would be down to ashes by now. Khushi was so stunned that she could not say anything...
Khushi kept staring at Arnav..she wanted to say something - many things - but she could not find her voice...she was frozen in that moment...Arnav kept looking into her eyes...he wanted Khushi to say something..say that it was not true...say that she could not believe what he was saying...but Khushi said nothing...as the disgust and anger wore off from his face..from his eyes... his eyes seemed to get hollow..then filled up with sheer emptiness and then with immense pain...That pain reached deep in Khushi's eyes..into her heart..back to her eyes...tears started to fill her eyes...gradually started rolling down her face...Arnav's eyes filled up as well...he clenched his teeth..his jaw muscles tightened and he slowly let go of Khushi. As Arnav took couple of steps back, Khushi realized that she had lost...she had lost the most precious opportunity to say something in her defense...
Arnav turned around, looked upto the sky and then his gaze stuck to the ground. He did not want to move. He did not want to go anywhere. He had tried so hard to not say anything to Khushi about Shyam for so long and now - now he had just blurted it out at such moment when he himself was not sure what his eyes saw was indeed true. He knew sooner or later, there were going to be many questions from Khushi, questions he wanted to avoid under all circumstances...questions he did not want to hear nor wanted to answer...
He turned around for one more look at Khushi..tears were trickling down her face...his heart jumped to his throat...he could not bear to see her like that. He had a strong urge to reach out to her and just gather her in his arms. Khushi was not looking at him...she was oblivious to his presence next to her. Suddenly it occured to Arnav, the game was over! Now that Khushi knew the reason behind their hasty marriage, there was no need to pretend..no need to pretend to be married, to care for or to be answerable to each other...It was all over just in the fourth month of the marriage...His face changed... the firmness was replaced by a vulnerable feeling... Khushi was still crying silently, not registering his presence.
Arnav turned around and started walking towards the door when he heard a loud noise... a big 'thud'. His feet stopped. He thought he knew what that loud noise was...it took him one moment and he turned quickly as if an electric current ran thorugh his body...His heart was sinking as he turned...he knew exactly what he was about to witness...as his eyes rested on the sight in front of him..he saw his Khushi on the floor...unconscious...he was not sure if she was still breathing...Arnav's heart sank... he did not want to confirm his fears..
