Chapter 21
...'Shakti what's your decision!'...
...'Kunwar how could you? How could you ask me to do that? ' ...
Amar lay in his bed that night recalling back to the fateful evening that occured 3 months ago. He thought back to how in one moment both their lives had crumbled down. How in one moment every dream they had together was shattered. How in one moment they're eternal love for each other was put to the test. How in one moment they both failed that test and paid the price of seperation.
He lay there, engulfed in darkness, reliving that tragic night when everything had come to an end.
That day, after he overheard Shakti's decision to leave, he had marched straight home hoping to sort all the confusion and angst washing thru him.
Chagrin, outrage and confusion coarsed thru him as he tried to sort out the turmoil within him. He wasn't sure what the hell was wrong with him. Yeah he was angry that she didn't tell him her decision. Yeah he was upset that she would be leaving. But he was also feeling immense pride that she -his girlfriend- had accomplished such a task. He felt admiration and awe at her talent. He was so proud that she was getting such a enormous opportunity.
Yet there was the hinderance and anger staining his happiness.
His heart and brain clouded over in consuming frustration, making everything around him blur. Agitated by all the chaos within him, he attacked anything and everything that his hands touched. He lost control of his actions and destroyed whatever came his way.
Finally when all the excess energy from his rage and frustration was spent, the pain and grief kicked in.
He fell to his knees as feelings of loneliness and betrayal washed thru him. He couldn't believe that she didn't even think it was important to tell him.
As he let all his emotions flow out, an object laying right in front of him caught his eye. It was a decoration piece of two birds surrounded by flowers shaped into a heart. One of their fans had gifted it to them. At the time she hadnt realized it was supposed to symbolize something for them and he had laughed at her naive nature. He remembered her surprise and then her blush when he had explained that the love birds were the two of them.
He stared at the little object for countless minutes as his mind pulled up pictures of all their memories together.
He finally broke away from his reverie when he heard someone softly clear her throat and call out to him.
"Kunwar?" she gently called out.
He jerked his head up, momentarily surprised. His eyes moistened as soon as he saw her and his face scrunched up in pain.
He froze for a moment until the shock subsided.
"How could you?" he finally whispered hoarsely.
He watched as her body stiffened from the tension buzzing between them. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears.
"I'm sorry" she managed to whisper, closing her eyes.
That finally snapped him. He shot up onto his feet and stalked towards her, roughly grabbing her upper arms and jerking her body against his hard chest. Her eyes flew open as a gasp escaped her lips.
"Sorry?!" he harshly asked. "You think a simple 'sorry' fixes everything?!" He shook her, trying to emphasize his anger.
She tensed as he yelled in her face, not doing or saying anything. "Kunwar, I know I should have told you before anyone else but everything happened so fast that I didn't know what to do." she wailed softly.
He eyed her incredulously, fury pumping thru his blood. "What the hell Shakti!" he lost all control over his actions.
He shoved her hard against the wall, pinning her body with his own. She whimpered in pain but didnt fight back. "You're not 5 years old that you just didn't know what to do. That's the stupidest excuse I've ever heard." he shouted.
His accusations made her own defiance rise. "Well its the truth." she yelled right back, her own temper flairing. "I didn't mean for any of this to happen. I didn't know I would be a part of D3 when I applied to Broadway's Dance Academy. I didn't know that we would be dationg when this happened. I didn't know that my accpetance there would create such problems in my life." she shrieked out.
Her own frustration and rage building up, she shoved him off her, making him stumble back. "Why do you fail to see that this is hurting me just as much as it hurts you? I know it's my fault for messing this up, I should have told you myself, you shouldn't have found out that way but that doesnt mean I did it on purpose!" her arms flailing around as she screamed at him.
He had had enough. 'She was the one at fault and yet she was yelling at him?!' he thought incredulously.
He grabbed her wrists pinning them behind her back and glared down at her. "SHUT. UP." he ground out, an eery calmness crossing his face.
He watched as fear spread in her eyes at his sudden hostility but he didn't care right now.
"Fine you didnt tell me before. So tell me now. What have you decided?" the calmness still evident in his tone as he released his grip on her and took a step back creating space between them.
He watched as surprise crossed her face at the sudden distance he was putting between them. She sighed and finally spoke up. "Kunwar, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry I messed this up. I wanted to tell you...I should have told you myself instead of you having to overhear it from Archie. I really am sorry."
She was crying and like everytime his heart pricked watching her precious tears flow but for once he didn't make any move to comfort her.
"You're leaving?" he asked, his voice devoid of emotion.
She looked into his eyes, searching for some answers. "Yes" she whispered.
"Would you stay back if I asked you to?" he inquired, still emotionless.
Her head jerked up, searching his face trying to figure out where he was getting to with this. After a minute when she still couldn't find anything she finally answered. "That would mean I'd have to sacrifice my dreams."
"Could you do that for me?"
He watched her stiffen as tension oozed out of every pour in her body. She looked away without replying.
He himself didn't know what he was doing. But he didn't care either. He shut both his heart and mind away just letting whatever came to his mouth flow out.
"Do you remember that day you stayed over at my house, before we went to Macau?" he inquired.
She looked back at him, confused by his random question.
"Yess..?" it sounded more like a question than a statement.
"Well do you remember I had asked you for something? A condition that you agreed to saying you would do anything I asked from you?"
They both thought back to that day, the happier days, when all this tension and angst wasn't present between them.
She silently nodded her head.
"Well that's what I want. I want you to stay. Don't go to New York. Stay here... with me."
Shakti froze in complete surprise. "What?!" she gasped out, not believing what she had just heard.
Amar remained motionless.
"You... you want me to... not... go?! To give up... my dream?" she asked uncertainly.
He didn't respond, just slowlyy nodded his head.
Shakti stumbled backwards until her back hit the wall, disbelief and confusion flooding her thoughts.
Sobs wracked thru her body as realization hit her in the face. She finally looked at him, accusation and frustration gleaming in her eyes.
"How could you?!" she gasped out, falling to the floor as her knees gave out.
Amar instinctively took a step forward, arms outstretched to catch her, but stopped when she spoke.
"How could I? How could you do this to me? How could you..." he stopped himself from continuing the endless accusations.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady his heartbeats and looked her straight in the eye. "Shakti, what's your decision?"
"Kunwar how could you? How could you ask me to do that? You know I've dreamt of such an opportunity all my life! Why would you try to take that away from me?"
"Enough with all the accusations. Dont blame me for this! It's all your fault, not mine!" he screamed, making her flinch. "Just tell me your damn decision!"
He saw her eyes flash in anger, her famous temper finally kicking in. She leaped to her feet and was in his face before he could even blink.
"Fine, you want to hear my decision? Well then listen carefully. I. AM. LEAVING. You are not worth anything compared to my dreams. If you can't respect my wishes then I don't find it necessary to do things based on your terms. We are done, Mr. Kunwar Amarjeet Singh! DONE!" she shrieked, tears relentlessly running down her face. She shot him one last glare before running out his door...maybe for forever?
Amar shut his eyes tightly, trying to stop the flow of memories. He now realized that he was just as much at fault as she, if not more.
'Stop it Amar! Whatever happened is the past. Nw just focus on fixing everything. No matter what I will get Shakti back!' he thought to himself.
"Watch out baby, your Prince Charming is coming to sweep you off your feet...again!" he smirked into the night. After what seemed like ages he finally felt light, determined to get his happiness back. His Shakti back.
