She felt a hand on her shoulder. Her heart started to beat like a car piston. He was here. what was he doing here? had jiji been caught and had he come to accuse her some more? She steadied her mind and readied herself to face the wrath. Anyway the pain wouldn't last long. She had already drank the slow poison which would start working on her body soon. She was already feeling nauseous.
She turned and looked up but her vision had started to blur. She could not see him clearly and therefore not read his expression.
"What are you doing here?" she whispered as she felt the darkness enveloped her.
All Arnav saw was her eyes roll back and then her body slumping to the floor. "KHUSHI..." he bent down and picked her head tapping her cheek. "Khushi wake up, dammit" His heart was racing. He checked her body for injuries but there were none. He looked at her face and saw blood running from her nose.
"AKAASH BRING THE CAR." Arnav shouted as he picked Khushi in his arms. Payal came running towards him.
"What happened?" She asked touching Khushi's forhead.
"I don't know Payal but she fainted. Something is not right." He said running down the stairs of the mandhir bare footed. Payal right behind him. Akash had brought the car round and he opened the back door for Arnav who laid khushi in the back. He closed the door and sat on the other side with her head on his lap. He got his mobile out and called the hospital to warn them.
"Khushi please open your eyes." He needed to see her eyes. He needed her alive. If he lost her today he would become a living corpse. "Akaash faster... I can't loose her"
"Bhai I am driving as fast as I can" Akaash said to his brother. He didn't want them all to get into an accident although he had a feeling if Khushi died today that was exactly what his brother would do. They got to the hospital and the gurney was waiting at the door for them. The nursing team took Khushi straight into the operating theater to pump her stomach. Arnav, Payal and Akaash paced outside the theater. All Arnav could see were her eyes... It was his fault he shouldn't have let this happen. If he lost her today he would never forgive himself and Shyam would be dead. It didn't matter now if Di could take it or not but he had to be man enough to stand up for justice.
"I will call amma and bauji" Payal told Akaash. "And I will call home." He replied. As they each called the doctor and his team had pumped Khushi's stomach and fighting hard to keep her alive.
The doctor came out. "Do you know what she took?"
"No... by the time we got there she had already taken it. What is happening Doctor? Please tell me my Khushi will be fine" Arnav said to the Doctor.
"I can't Arnav... We are trying but until we know what she took it makes our job harder. She could react to the drugs we give and it could kill her. She may not survive and you have to prepare yourself for that" The doctor said going back inside.
Arnav felt his whole world had just been pulled from under his feet. He fell to the floor and just stared at the wall in front of him. His world had just lost color. All he could feel was a 1000 ton boulder sitting on his heart. He struggled to breathe. He was never going to see her mischievous smile. He would never see her get nervous when he came near her. He would never see her eyes sparkle. He would never see her walk down the stairs of RM as his wife. He would never see her as his bride.
"Chote... " He looked up and saw his Di bending down. He put his head on her lap and cried. "Di tell your God to take my life and give her mine. Di please I can't live without her... I love her... She is my other half." Anjali looked down at her little brother crying for the girl who was trying to break up her marriage, for the girl who had decided to end her life because they hadn't listened to her side of the story, the girl who had taken their insults without flinching.
"Chote she will be ok. Have faith in your love" Anjali prayed silently that Khushi would return to them. She needed to know the truth. If her husband was in the wrong it was time for him to see that his savitri wife could also take form of Durga Maa. It was time for Shyam Ja to see her Raizada blood. No one messed with her brother's heart and got away with it.
Everyone had arrived. Buaji was shouting at Payal, while Amma and Bauji were trying to calm her down. Nani and mamiji had gone to the hospital mandhir to pray. Anjali sat on the floor with Arnav's head in her lap. He had been so silent for the past 2 hours. They didnt know what was happening with Khushi.
Just then the door's opened and they brought her out. Arnav jumped up and went to her. Her face was so pale you could see the veins in her face. She was on a ventilator. He looked at the Doctor.
"We are keeping her in ICU, I dont know if she will survive the night. I will give her until tomorrow morning. I am sorry." The doctor said to them. "Please let my team take her to ICU and settle her then you can go sit with her."
Arnav watched as they took her. He felt like he was suffocating. Right now he needed to be in ASR mode. He had to be strong for everyone. Payal was loosing her little sister, and buaji and her parents thier youngest daughter. He looked around everyone had lost expressions.
"I will go to sit with Khushi first." He announced. His rage was returning. How stupid could she be? why couldn't she understand that he loved her? Khushi Kumari Gupta was going to have to wake up. If it was the last thing he did. He wasn't going to let her die do easily. He walked purposefully towards the ICU room and watched as the nurses made her comfortable. They walked out and told him he could go in. "Speak to her, she can hear you" one of them said. He was going to speak to her in fact he was going to shout. who the hell did she think she was making every one worry like this? He entered the room and walked up to her bed.
"Khushi I am going to ask nicely only once. Get up right now and tell us why you did something so foolish" He spoke to her in a stern tone. Nothing only the sounds of the machine could be heard.
"Khushi don't anger me?" Tell me now" He said raising his voice. Still nothing. She was testing his patience.
"Khushi Kumari Gupta if you die today I swear your laad governer will take the world on his head and haunt you in the next life" he shouted. His resolve broke he could no longer be ASR she had changed him. The tears started to flow. He picked her hand. "Khushi come back to me... bring the color back into my life please jaan come back to me"
"Arnavji..."
