Part 15

Shakti walked out of the Airport gates and looked around.

Mukti- Shaks….. here!! (waving out)

Shakti saw them and grinned….. she ran to them.

Shakti- hiii (shrieked)

She hugged her sisters, Neeti, Mukti and Kirti.

Kirti- Diii…. We've missed you.

Mukti- I knowww…. Really missed you.

Neeti- yes absolutely, Shaks.

Shakti- I've missed you too, my darlings…. Come here.

They hugged, jumping in a circle, giggling all the while…. the bystanders were watching them with amusement…. They looked like a bunch of teenagers…. They realized, they were being watched and broke their circle still giggling.

Kirti- I'll get your luggage.

Shakti looked back at her luggage cart that she had left behind before she had dashed to her sisters.

Shakti- (laughs) oh…. Thanks Kirti.

She looked at Mukti and Neeti.

Shakti- mom-dad kahan hai?

Mukti- home…. we dint allow them to come (laughs)

Shakti- (laughs) no, acha kiya…. It's so late…. Plus my flight was delayed…. I'm glad they dint have to wait here.

Neeti- (to shakti) chalo chale…. You look so beat…. Let's get you home.

Shakti- (giggled) I know…. I must look like a zombie.

Mukti- yes, yes you do (wink)

They laughed…. and hugged again.

Shakti- chalo ab…. Warna mujhe uttha ke le jaana padega.

They got in a cab and headed home….. they gossiped all throughout the journey.

Before she could even enter her door, her mom came and hugged her tightly.

Shakti- Ouch Maa!!…. Pehele andar toh aane do. (laughs)

Her mom laughed with tears streaming down her face…. Shakti felt tears sting her eyes too.

Shakti- missed you so much, Maa (hugging her back)

Her dad came ahead and planed a kiss on her forehead…. She hugged him tightly.

Shakti- you too papa

Mukti- acha chalo ab beechari ko andar toh aane do.

They laughed as they realized they were still standing at the door…. She got in and looked around.

Shakti- wow maa…. Yahan toh khuch bhi nahi badla hai.

Neeti- (laughs) what did you expect?... tum sirf 3 months ke liye gayi thi, Shaks.

Shakti- (laughed) really?... seemed like ages to me.

Sakhti's mom- beta, you must be hungry…. Go freshen up…. I'll get the food ready.

Shakti- yes mom.

Mukti- ya jaldi…. Then I want you to unpack and give me all my presents.

They laughed.

Shakti- arre haan meri maa…. Jaa, shuru kar unpack karna. (wink)

Mukti giggled and ran to fetch her bags.

She went to her room to freshen up…. The bed looked so tempting that she decided to lie down for a while…. She dint realize, kab aankh lag gayi…. And she slept like a baby…. Her mom came in the room…. smiled…. Kissed her cheek…. put on a blanket…. Switched off the lights and shut the door.

Next morning she woke up hearing a lot of commotion from the hall…. She got out of the bed…. quickly freshened up…. and headed out to see what was going on.

All her neighbors were gathered in the hall….. they had come to greet her…. She met everyone one by one…. She made polite conversations with everyone…. Mukti came out in the hall and was surprised to see so many people gathered around Shakti…. congratulating her, hugging and kissing her.

Mukti looked at Shakti's expression and chuckled… she came and stood beside Shakti and whispered.

Mukti- poor you.

Shakti nudged Mukti with her elbow.

Shakti- (with a smile plastered on her face) shush…. Shut up.

Mukti laughed and announced she had to go for her shoot and walked to the door…. She turned around and came back to stand in front of Shakti

Mukti- welcome home Shaks

She smiled…. kissed Shakti on her cheek and left.

After an hour, her neighbors dispersed and she breathed a sigh of relief.

Shakti's mom- beta, you are hungry?... kal raat ko bhi khuch nahi khaaya tha.

Shakti- yes mom very hungry…. Aur jaldi dena mujhe Set pe jaana hai.

Shakti's mom- (confused) Set pe jaana hai?... ab kya?... kal hi toh aayi ho….. ab kause rehearsals hai?

Shakti- (laugh) Maa…. D3 ke set pe jaana hai…. sab se milne…. Actually surprise dene. (wink)

Shakti's mom- oh…. Acha thik hai…. tum jaldi tayar ho jaao…. I'll make you your breakfast.

Shakti- ok Maa

She hop-skipped to her room like a kid excited at Christmas to open his presents.

Finally she got in her car and left

She parked her car in the parking lot…. she noticed Amar's bike in one corner and she smiled.

She practically ran to the gates…. She stopped at the gate to chat with the watchman.

Shakti- Shankar kaka…. Pehechana?

Watchman- arre Shakti beta…. Tumhe koi bhi yahan bhool sakta hai?

They both laughed.

Shakti- aap kaise ho?

Watchman- main thik hun beta…. Tum kab aayi?

Shakti- kal raat ko

Watchman- acha… bahut ache…. Lagta hai sabko surprise dene aayi ho? (laughs)

Shakti- (laughs) ji kaka…. Kya main andar jaa sakti hoon?

Watchman- bilkul jaa sakti ho beta…. Tum itni bhi parayi nahi ho gayi ho, ke tumhe andhar jaane se koi rok sake.

Shakti- (smiled) thank you kaka

She entered the gate and looked around…. she found her way to the shooting area…. Today they were shooting an outdoor sequence so they all had gathered at the basketball court…. She stood a little far away without anybody noticing her and watched at what was going on.

They were shooting a fight sequence after a basketball match between St. Louis College and K.R College…. Except for Lavin Gothi, Shakti dint recognize the other actors of K.R. college.

Fight sequence-

St. Louis College was hosting a basketball tournament and it was the final match between their college and K.R. college…. K.R college had tried to cheat again to win this tournament but this time the St. Louis students would not take the shit lightly…. This leads to a hands on fight between the members of the two teams.

Shakti watched them pretend to punch, kick, slap each other and she chuckled…. They all looked really funny…. The girls were sitting in the stands and cheering for them.

Vinti saw Shakti from far and she screamed.

Vinti- OH-MY-GOD!!!... Dude is that Shakti???

Everybody stopped in their track…. Amar looked up to see where Vinti was looking…. But he stopped so abruptly that his opponent in the fight sequence did not realize and he missed his air shot and punched Amar right on his face, near his eye.

Amar was stunned by the blow and he lost his balance, making him collapse on the ground.

Shakti's eyes widened and she ran towards him.

But before she could reach him…. everyone had already gathered around him….. she pushed her way into the crowd and kneeled down before him.

Shakti- (panicky) Kunwar?... Kunwar?... are you alright?... Shit!!... (to others) guys, get some ice…. Quick!!

Amar looked up, holding the side of his face that was hit…. He couldn't believe his eyes….. he prayed…. Please God…. Please don't let it be a dream this time.

She touched his hand on his face and pulled it away to inspect the bruise…. His eyes widened….. it was indeed her….. she traced her fingers around the corner of his eye…. He winced at the contact on the wound…. She withdrew her hand back.

Shakti- crap…. I'm sorry…. Are you ok?

Amar mutely nodded…. Too stunned to say anything…. He kept staring at her still not believing at what he saw.

Anjali came forward with an icepack, leaned forward pushing Shakti slightly away and placed it on Amar's face…. Shakti glared at her, got up and moved back….. Anjali kneeled down and took Shakti's place in front of him, still holding the icepack…. Amar smiled at Anjali, took the pack from her hand, held it in its place and looked up at Shakti.

She gave him a tiny smile and looked away.

Palki- Shakti?... when did you come, dear?... and how come I wasn't aware that you have come back.

Alisha- none of us knew maam.

Everybody waited for Shakti to say something.

Shakti- I came back last night…. I wanted to give you all a surprise. (smile)

Archie- it's more like a shock than a surprise….. I thought I was seeing a ghost. (wink)

Everybody laughed.

She looked at Amar from the corner of her eyes…. He was still gaping at her without even moving a muscle…. She saw Anjali brush his hair back from his forehead and adjust the icepack on his face…. She balled her hands in a tight fist, clenched her jaw and looked away.

Everybody bombarded her with questions and she quietly answered them all with a smile…. but Amar noticed that the smile dint reach her eyes…. Palki maam dispersed everybody and asked the boys to take care of Amar and his bruise….. the girls took Shakti to the dressing room to have their chat... he wanted to meet her…. Be with her…. Hold her in his arms and whisper…. Welcome back, sweetheart….. but all he did was watch her back as she walked away.

Shantanu- (at Amar) dude…. Tum thik ho?

Amar- hmm

Shantanu- chalo utho….. let's do something about your face.

Macci- acha hai….. ab toh natural chot lagi hai…. Makeup ki bhi zaroorat nahi padegi.

Amar glared at him and others laughed.

The day went by…. He still hadn't meet Shakti properly….. all the while she was in the dressing room and none of the girls had bothered to come out….. the boys had complained to Palki maam about it and she had said that it was ok for today since Shakti had come and so the girls could take the day off coz as it is the fight sequence had to be shot with the boys, so they dint really need the girls.

After the shoot he walked to their dressing room and knocked.

Vinti opened the door.

Vinti- hey Amar…. Wassup?

Amar- hey Vinti…. Where is Shakti?... tum log hi usse milte rahoge, ya humain bhi mauka doge?

Vinti- (laughs) ok ok dude….chill…. btw how's your face?

She saw that the corner of his eye had turned blue-black.

Vinti- Gosh…. That looks ugly…. Acha hua, it dint hit your eye.

But Amar was not paying attention to what Vinti was saying…. He was looking past her at Shakti who was standing behind Vinti…. Her eyes looked worried.

Amar- Hi Shaks (grin)

Shakti- (whisper) hi Kunwar.

Anjali joined them.

Anjali- Kunwar?... you ok?... come here…. Let me see.

She stepped close to him and put her hands on his face…. Amar flinched back.

Amar- (frowned) I'm fine Anjali

He looked at Shakti…. But she immediately looked away.

Shakti- ( at Sneha) I think I should go…. It's getting late…. And I'm really tired….. I still have to adjust to the timings here.

Sneha- (confused) acha ok…. No problem.

Priyanka- hey but we decided to go out na?

Shakti- aumm….. later Pri…. Tomorrow maybe.

She looked at Amar and he raised his eyebrow, looking confused.

Anjali- ya let's meet up tomorrow…. We'll go for a movie…. What say guys?

Vinti- ya ya, good idea.

Everyone excitedly agreed…. And looked at Shakti for her approval….. she smiled at them and nodded.

Shakti- ok chalo…. I'l make a move…. Bye guys….. see you tomorrow.

She looked at Amar one last time and walked away.

Amar frowned…. Maine kya kiya?... mujhse ache se baat bhi nahi ki…. And he followed her out.
