Silent breeze whistled in the pitch darkness of the living room of the cottage when Geet stepped inside. Her sharp eyes tried to make something out of her surroundings but she didn't have any inkling of what was happening there. She treaded on into the room carefully, trying not to bonk herself against any piece of furniture. But something came in her way, something rubbery and when she tried to swat it away with her feet, it burst.
"Oh my god!" she screamed and turned only to bang into someone, her screaming increasing tenfold in sheer fear of darkness and the unknown when a hand closed her mouth to stop her from screeching and waking up the whole neighborhood, "Shhh...munnu!"
Maan's voice washed her with such calmness that she froze completely. He was so close that his breath tickled her ears as he whispered, "Happy Birthday, munnu!"
She closed her eyes in delight. It had been 6 years since Maan came into her life and there wasn't a dull day from then on. But every year on this particular day, her life seemed like a fairy tale to her. Every single moment that led to her birthday every year was waiting in such desperate anticipation of what Maan was going to do to surprise her. He never let a dash of the party plan reach her ears. She didn't know he managed to make it beyond perfect every time, but he did. For that she loved him.
That thought nestled in the deepest corner of her heart as she received a huge hug from her only best friend. That thought was there to stay...
