Jee Le Zaraa Is Happening
Khushi walked off to keep the murti in her trunk. She bent down to put it in when she saw the jalebi box. "Atleast I won the murti. That calls for a celebration and she reached out to open the box"
Khushi loosens the string on the box and just as she takes the cover off, "Khushiji, waise aapne saale sahib ke saath bohut ache se dance kiya!" Shyam's syrupy sweet voice stuck to the air like the sickly humidity of a hot day. Turned to look at him placing the half opened sweet box on the table, her pallu coming to rest next to the box as her hip rested against the table. As Khushi and Shyam locked eyes no one notice the deadly creature that crawled out of the box and nestled itself in the silky cocoon of Khushi's pallu making its way slowly up her hip.
"Aap, nikal jaiye yeha se." Khushi warned Shyam, who looked at her for a few seconds before breaking into a fake smile and said "Theek hai Khushiji, hum to sirf yeh mithai ki box lene aye the. Anjali ji ne mangwai hai." His lips curled into an evil smile as he reached out and took the box. That, was very close he thought to himself rushing out of the room with the box.
Khushi turned to leave the room and irritably flicked at the tickling sensation by her hip, this is why I never leave my hair open. Always tickles, she thought and walked out of the room. She was walking past the poolside towards the party when she felt a sharp pierce on the side of her waist and winced. "Ants! She angrily swiped her waist and felt a slight bump form at the sight. She looked to see an angry red welt.
"Kya hua?" Arnav came to stand beside her. "Woh, kuch nahi, chiti kata hai."
"It must be all those bloody sweets you eat. Probably have syrup stuck to you somewhere." Arnav replied with a slight irritation to his tone. He brought his hand forward to touch the reddened spot a sudden feeling of jealousy towards the ant that got to taste her sweet waist and anger at its audacity to hurt her. Khushi pushed him away "Kya kar rahe hai aap? Samjhte kya hai apne aap ko?" Khushi looked up the fire back in her eyes.
"Khushi let me just see, it does look like an ant" he could see a dark red spot of blood at the centre of the reddened area on her waist – ants didn't leave puncture marks he thought to himself. If only she would just let me look, he thought getting frustrated.
"Nahi Mr. Raizada. Aap kya sochte hai, jab chahe humari kareeb ajayenge? Aur jub chahe hume utha ke fek denge? Haan mujhe pata hai ke aapko koi faraq nahi padta hoga. Faraq padne ke liye jo dil ki zaroorat hoti hai woh to apke pass hai nahi. Lekin mujhe faraq padta hai – kyu humari dil koi khilona nahi hai." She scratched at her waist the pain was raising. She felt another sharp pierce at the back of her neck. Beads of sweat started appearing on her forehead. She was feeling slightly giddy.
Arnav was taken aback at her rant, he knew he deserved it but it really hurt to hear the pain in voice – inflicted by him. He had indeed broken her heart. He never meant. He was searching her eyes still concerned about the puncture wound and noticing changes in her breathing and that's when he saw it. For a brief second he saw an unmistakable sting posied in the air just behind her shoulder.
"KHUSHI! " he yelled and she stepped back her hands in front of her signalling him to stand back. She reeled slightly surprised by her own dizziness. Arnav pushed her hand aside and flicked herr hair urgently.
"KYA KAR RAHE HAI" she screamed at him and fell forward. He turned her in his arms and they both looked in horror as a scorpion scuttled away on the floor. Arnav sat her down on the recliner and went after the scorpion lest it hurt anyone else.
"Khushi, did it bite you?" he asked her with urgency, praying in his heart that the red mark on her waist was just an ant. "Khushi you said there were ants, where?" Khushi shook her head. "maine dekha nahi. Mujhe laga tha. She turned to look at her waist and scratched at the redness. The puncture wound now crystral clear. Arnav closed his hands of over hers. She scratched at her neck with her other hand, he moved her hair to see a second puncture wound. Her face was draining of its colour. He wiped her brow and stood her up. She faltered. He scooped her up in his arms, hear head resting under his chin. "Khushi keep talking ok? Kya bol rahi thi tum? Ke mein ek laad governor hoon? That I don't have a heart? Keep talking Khushi. Please." The last bit came out in desperation.
He didn't remember how he reached the hospital. The drive was a blur. His only focus in keeping her conscious and getting her there as fast as he could. He had barked some orders scaring the wits out of the medical interns who had rushed to get the senior.
"Scorpion. Two bites. Please make her ok" was all he could manage. His eyes filled with the desperation in his heart. HE paced outside while the doctors admitted Khushi into emergency. Her body convulsing in siezures when they had taken her away. He felt a gut wrenching helplessness to see her in such a way. He watched through the window as a team of doctors crowded her frail form. Nothing will happen to her he told himself, closing his eyes tightly. How did that deadly creature get into his house, the thought haunted him. He would find out. But later.
"She won't stop convulsing. We have administered the anti-venom. It's a matter of waiting now. The next 24 hours are critical." The doctor came out and informed him "All we can do is pray now." With that the Doctor left. He walked over the side of her bed watching her. The colour drained completely from her face. He pale skin a ghostly white. Her body shook with tremors as she convulsed. He felt like reaching in and ripping the poison taking over her body. He collapsed on the chair by the bed and picked up her hand. It was so cold and so limp. He held it tight in both his arms and brought to it to rest on his forehead, his elbows resting on the edge of the bed.
For the first time in his life Arnav prayed. To every God, to every spirit to every force. "Take me instead. She doesn't deserve this. Make it stop. His shoulders shook as he sobbed into his hand. Somewhere along the line she had become the very reason of his existence and life without her was no longer an option.
He called home to let them know where he was. The visiting hours were long over. Still Buaji had insisted on coming and NK drove her to the hospital. She was shocked to see the sight before her. Khushi lay shaking from a seizure and Arnav lay beside her hugging her tight. His strong arms around protectively over her chest and his leg across her hers, holding her steady as her body rocked. His head was buried in her hair whispering and telling her she would be ok. While he was there he wouldn't let anything happen to her.
Buaji walked in andArnav made no effort to get up. He merely raised his head acknoweledging their presence. Buaji saw the empty horror in his eyes. Like he had lived through a horror movie. Buaji walked up to her neice placing her hand on Khushi's forehead blessing her. She nodded at Arnav, her eyes speaking to him, thanking him for looking after her little butterfly. She knew in that instant that this was the man for her neice. The pain reflected in his eyes was a direct mirror of the pain he felt in his being. When she hurt, he hurt more. He was her soulmate, that much was evident to the older woman.
"Sorry, two of you have to leave. Only one person can stay overnight. And I think its best that the patients husband stays. He has been holding her through the convulsions." The nurse smiled softly at Arnav, his love for the patient had touched her deep within. Buaji looked up at Arnav, her eyes misting over. NK held Buaji by the elbow and steered her out of the room. No words needed to be spoken. Buaji just took her hands up and framed them in it before bringing them to her ears and curling her fingers, warding off the evil eye, closing the door behind them.
For the next few hours Khushi went in and out of consciousness. Her delirium making her speak incoherently but every time mumbling his name. he sponged her face with cool water soothing her and running his fingers through her hair.
In the wee hours of the morning Khushi came around. She knew he was there. She had felt him all along. She looked beside her to find him holding her tightly. Her slight movement stirred him back to life. "Khushi!" he whispered. She closed her eyes. "Don't. Ever. Do. That. To. Me. Again" He pulled her tight to his chest kissing the top of her head. "Thank you God. Thank you for bringing her back to me" tears fell freely from his eyes as he hugged his life tighter to his chest.COVER BY AISHWARYA (Mystic_Muse) SUMMARY Suzanne Miller , an Indian Origin Canadian Citizen adopted by the Miller family, who goes on a quest to...
