Chapter -2

The lost ID card..

mayank massaged his nose . his eyes were already streaming with the impact, getting hit on nose was always painful..

he turned and tried to wade his way through the crowd towards cafeteria. Every now n then he was bumped in by a student who had his eyes on his notes instead of on what was in front of him ... college life at its best ..

nupur(giggling)-how do u always manage getting hurt when ever u r trying to tease sam??

Mayank(rolling his eyes at her)- oh shutup..

Nupur= no seriously mayank , look at ur nose , its as gorgeous as a tomato ..

Mayank pulled nupur aside from the corridor so suddenly that she gasped , and she would have shrieked if mayank hadn't kissed her the next second..

M=there i should have known that this was a better way to shut u up..(gives nupur a mischeious wink)

Saying so nupur planted another kiss on mayank's cheek n both of them smiled..college life had always been a bliss, specially if u had the most precious thing u ever loved besides you. And even though mayank n nupur studied in different colleges , there was hardly a day they didn't see each other. N today was a special day .today was nupur's birthday and mayank had planned to bunk his test(this was going to be a first) and surprise nupur.. he hadn't told her of his plan because he knew she wont agree... so he hadn't told her even about the test ..

Mayank walked besides nupur slowly to the cafeteria. The small hall, never looked its size.. it could be the smallest room of the building but it always looked like way to spacious., specially because of abscense of any student .. don't be shocked. Even u wont enter the cafeteria if u know the quality of the yuck food , the people offered there ..so all in all this was the best place for love birds, to catch up with some alone times.. the only think good that could be baught from this place was a bisleri water bottle..

N= so now that we r all settled and cozy , tell me about this new girl in ur brother's life??

M= do we have to talk about my brother on ur birthday??? And u r wrong we settled in our respective chairs but we are not cozy yet..(winks at nupur again)

N= oh .. u r in a dirty mood today .. tell me mayank Sharma how does it feel to bunk ur test for the first time in ur life??

Mayank was stunned to silence .. he had made sure no one would tell her about his test , he had even hung benji and uday upside down from the hostel railing to make sure they got the message loud and clear. N yet here it was..

M= how do u ... how did u find out??

N=oh i guess u forgot a tiny winy detail that my sister had taken admission in this college just this week, n since she is in ur college , in ur class n she has this physics test so obviously u have it too.. moreover i think seeing all those guys running hither n theether with there books in front of their eyes gives me a preety good picture of this amazing test scenario..

Mayank banged his head on the desk..

Nupur laughed. This was just like her boyfriend.. going to extremities in planning something big for her, and then fate comes in the way to destroy his efforts.. his reactions after that were always so cute.

N= its okay it doesn't matter .. so did u like my sister??

M= i hate ur sister even before meeting her. N i am not going to give that dumb test today , i didn't even prepare for it . n u r not going to force me do u get it..

N= bygod mayank who would have thought , the great mayank Sharma will threaten someone to not make him give a test??? Are u even the real mayank..

M= very funny!!

N= aww its okay don't worry , i don't mind u missing the test .. god knows u need a break from studying day in and day out.. and if u hadn't bailed out of this test by urself i would have forced u to do so .. its my birthday!! So whats my gift..

M= wait what were u saying abt ur sister?? There is no new student entry this year except... except gunjan... u mean to say she is ur sister??

N= why is that such a surprise?? I told u my cousin was coming in here! Didn't i?

M= life gets great and great..

N= u r confusing me n between who was the girl after whom ur brother studied all night?? For a test??

M= aah u wont be surprised.. he is bonkers after ur sister..

Scene 2-

Gunjan felt nervous, her locker had jammed in a very insane way n she was unable to open it even though she had been trying really hard to get it open.. she needed her id for the test and she couldn't go without it , she had heard the rules here were pretty strict .. may be she should just go and tell her professor about it,, it wanst exactly her fault if her locker had jammed.

But then she wasn't even sure if her id card was inside it for sure or not.. what if it wasn't?? May be she left it back at her hostel.. may be she left it back at her sister's home!!

To conclude the story gunjan was getting paranoid at the end of every passing second. She had tried to get a helper to open the locker for her.. but the corridors today had been totally empty with all the students concentrating in front of their classes, nose deep in their books.. it looked as if the tests here were preety scary.

S= do u need help??

Gunjan gasped and turned around.. the sudden voice had terrified her.. but now as she looked at the speaker her heart missed a beat . this was samrat . he was the college's sports captain . and basically every girl out there gushed over him . gunjan had been avoiding meeting his eyes all the week. She was afraid that this intimidating guy would know of her infatuation with him in seconds . but now that she looked at him , she wondered how could she ever have thought that this guys could be intimidating ??

He looked just so sweet and concerned. It also looked as if he had came running from a long way, especially from the way he was gasping ..

G= are u fine?

S= no i have a stich on my side . i shouldn't have jumped three stairs at once..

G= but why did u.. why were u running .. u look in so much hurry?

S= umm i .. uh actually i forgot my book in my locker n there was this question i didn't revise n it was very importent u know? N i thought of coming back n giving it a read again .. so i was back..

G= u keep ur books in girl's locker room??

Samrat looked at her stunned. The girl really had brains and as mayank said he lacked intellectual sense seriously..

S= umm i .. uh ok u caught me . someone back there told me u were stuck with ur locker. And i.. uh i came to i came to help u out, thought this was the easiest way to make an impression..

Gunjan smiled . samrat really had a way even with flirting ..

She pointed towards her locker helplessly. Samrat looked at the jammed grey door and tried his best not to smile . mayank and his tricks. He loved jamming lockers, infact the whole second year knew abt this talent of mayank.. he would go around bending the lower edge of the fragile grey locker doors with his stapler in such a way that it would jam in the crevice of the holder n get stuck!!! Mayank's favourite targets were his professors naturally , specially mr durjoy.. mayank simply loved tormenting that fellow. As a matter of fact ,he had never forgiven him for giving him 10 out of 15 in a physics test !!!

That obviously meant that sam's brother was preety vengeful!!!!

Anyway leaving all that aside , the main point was that samrat knew how to rectify the jammed door. The trick was simple . all u have to do was , use the back side of the stapler n pry the curved edge of the locker free. Normally sam would have pretended to work on upper side of the door before finally resorting to his stapler . just to make sure that the girl he was trying to impress didn't suspect any foul play..

But with gunjan , he felt their was no need to lie, he simply wasn't going to lie.. and he felt stupid for being so afraid to talk to her all week. It seemed just so easy now. So natural. Samrat never felt this comfortable with anyone before ...well if u don't count his brother that is. But since mayank was not a girl , it hardly mattered !!!

He opened his back pack n more of his crumpled notes slipped outside to the room floor..

S= oops sorry !!!

G=u love studying.. alot ? don't u?? Even i never made so many notes n thats saying something !!

S= oh no!! Wrong impression. I ..uh i think i banged my head preety hard yesterday . n since then i have been acting like my " good for nothing highly studious n genious brother"!!!. Belive me if u ever caught me in the range of hundred meters of my books again, pls commit me to a mental asylum. Man i am never doing that again..

And gunjan laughed , smarat forgot his stapler , which hung limply at the locker end and stared at her open mouthed. He couldn't even find words powerful enough to describe her beauty or his jumbled up feelings. Suddenly he felt as if his shoes had grown wings n he was about to fly..

Gunjan stopped laughing , she obviously looked embarrassed. Samrat tried to close his eyes, or atleast blink them , but he just wasn't able to..

He had never felt so alive before !!! well that is if u didn't count the day mayank hanged him upside down from their terrace railing as a prank!!

Hanging for ur life ,a thousand meters above solid asphalt makes u feel very alive...

Gunjan blushed n looked the other way..

Then several things happened in a single second..

The bell went like the loudest GONG ever , samrat's stapler fell on his foot making him shriek n jump around the locker room holding his toe ,gunjan's cell started ringing, she was sure it was a frantic call from her classmates to inform her about the first bell for the test , incase she somehow missed the loudest ever GONG bell of the college !!

G= are u fine??? Sam.

S=yeah i feel great !! so blessed i am going to murder that stapler.. aaarrghhh..

G=its okay lemme see.

S= no i am fine(he tried to set his foot down n stand on it gingerly, but next second he was jumping around again)'

G= atleast let me see it , can u stand still??

S=with my one foot in air??? Sure why not, i do that all the time.. easy peasy...

G= do u ever for one second stop being sarcastic??

S=just one second??

G= shut up sam , sit here .. now pls give me the pleasure to find out what the gorgeous stapler did to ur foot..!

Sam slumped on the bench and lifted his foot over it , there was some blood alright!...but it was from a very small cut .sam knew he was bright red at this very moment. He had been jumping around the whole place coz of a millimetre long cut. How manly and brave !!

G=it doesn't look much bad...

Sam prayed with everything in him for a dinosaur to drop in from the window n gobble him up..

S=yeah its just a silly little cut..

He stood again, and didn't wince this time , though the small cut still stung ..he moved towards the locker and picked up the cursed stapler, submerging the urge to throw the dam stapler out of the window , sam started working on the locker door again. He didn't say anything , he felt way to embarrassed , gunjan didn't say anything too.. may be she sensed his uneasiness and didn't knew what to say to make him feel ok. Or may be she was just having a hard time keeping a straight face and not laughing like mad at samrat's stupidness..

He gave the stapler one final lurch and the locker door opened !!

S=here you go !!

G= thanks sam..

She moved towards the locker while sam side stepped her and stood besides the window..he pretended rummaging through his back pack to find something. Basically he was just trying to avoid talking to her...

G=oh no...!no no no..

Sam moved towards her inspite of himself..

S=what happened?

G= my ID card..its not here..i .. may be i forgot it back at my sister's house

She looked terrified about this.sam knew without ID card she wont be allowed to give the test. But it was just a test . it didn't matter if she missed one or two..

S= its ok u can give the next one , moreover u will be evaluated only on two tests out of the three mid sems.. don't worry

G= u don't understand sam. Princi said that this is sort of my admission test .. if i failed it i wont be allowed to attend the college any more..
